For over a year, we’ve watched Drew Cain wreak havoc on the lives of those he once loved and grow increasingly more despicable until someone finally picked up a gun and pulled the trigger. Twice. Now, Anna, her ace detectives and eagle-eyed viewers have a mystery to unravel. Letโs get into it with a new General Hospital commentary for the week ending September 5, 2025.
Folks, what an exciting week to cover General Hospital. Iโm thrilled that I get to write about the long-overdue karma that finally caught up with Drew. To say he had it coming would be an understatement. The list of people who hate Drew is long and includes a large chunk of the viewers. The writers certainly took their sweet time giving us some justice, but it arrived this week and it was wonderful. Not only did someone take aim at Drew, but we now have a mystery to solve. Who pulled the trigger?
I loved every episode this week. To my utter delight, the primary focus of each episode has been Drewโs shooting and the fallout. I have no idea why General Hospital doesn’t do more of these types of mysteries, peppering in clues along the way, because it’s such a great way to get viewers invested.
Congressman Drew “Cutthroat” Cain, the villain
How despised is Drew Cain? I work with a group of wonderful ladies who have been watching General Hospital for years. Naturally, weโve all been talking about how awful Drew has been, especially in recent weeks. Our General Hospital scribes have done a fantastic job of making viewers root for someone — anyone — to take Drew out. Every time we thought Drew couldnโt get more detestable, heโd do something vile like keep Scout from her loved ones and prove us wrong.
For weeks one of my supervisors, Kathy, would ask me almost daily, โWhen is Drew going to die?โ Iโd share what I knew, but it was very little. Spoilers for General Hospital are notoriously vague and open to all kinds of interpretations. One thing was clear though. Everyone could sense that something big was going to happen to Drew. Given his penchant for dastardly deeds, it didnโt bode well for him. On Tuesday, karma finally caught up with Drew when someone picked up a gun, slipped into Drewโs home and shot him. Twice.
It was a riveting episode. Never have I rooted for a would-be killer to succeed more.
The man that General Hospital viewers hate … like really hate
Was this the plan all along? Did the writers know they were going to end up here when they first decided to take Drew in a new direction early last year? I donโt know, but it seemed inevitable that someone would eventually go gunning for Drew. Drew has been public enemy number one ever since he whispered in Willow’s ear to use the medical proxy against Michael and his family. The problem is that Drew didnโt die. Subsequently, my sense of justice was quickly snuffed out by the certainty that he will live to torment the people of Port Charles another day. Only, Drew will be much worse this time around.
Dare we hope the would-be killer returns to finish the job?
The prime suspect
That brings me to Willow. Sheโs a prime suspect for a myriad of reasons starting with her mental state. Willow has been struggling since losing custody of her children. Things only got worse when Curtis dropped his bombshell on her wedding day that Drew had been sleeping with Nina right up to and for a short while after Drew and Willow’s first kiss. Willow feels betrayed and hurt on top of broken hearted over not seeing her kids.
Willow is in a very bad place. She hasn’t handled anything well in a while. Recently, she played games with newborn Daisy to teach both Sasha and Michael a lesson about what it feels like to lose a child. Never mind that Michael lived that nightmare for months when Nelle and Brad hid Wiley, and Sasha lost both her newborn son and her husband within a span of less than a year. Willow wanted Michael and Sasha to suffer because she was suffering.
As always, Willow only ever sees her own pain because she is always the victim.
Willowโs alibi
At the time of the shooting, Willow was supposed to be working at General Hospital. However, Willow was nowhere to be found. In fact, not only was she missing, Liz assumed that Willow had walked out in the middle of her shift because Willow was upset over the news that Judge Heron had been murdered.
Earlier, Chase had gotten Willowโs hopes up by sharing that he had talked to the judge about what an awesome mother Willow is, and the judge had given him reason to hope for a better outcome at Willow’s next hearing. Thatโs when Willow revealed that she had decided to get back together with Drew because he was powerful. Willow reasoned that if Drew was able to bribe someone at Michaelโs clinic in Germany, he must be powerful enough to get her kids back. That worked out so well for her the first time around. ๐
Why would Willow shoot Drew?
I would love for it to turn out that Willow had shot Drew because she desperately needs a stint at Shadybrook. But there are too many holes in that theory. For starters, where would Willow get a gun? Does she usually pack heat when she works shifts at General Hospital? Also, why would the judgeโs murder send Willow on a mission to kill Drew? It seems to me that Willow would be all the more determined to go through with her plans, since the judge won’t be of any help to her dead.
However, the shooting itself suggests a crime of passion rather than someone intent on killing. If youโre going to double tap someone, wouldnโt you make sure that one of those shots was a kill shot? Did Willow go to Drew’s place, see him with Lila’s ring and hear him say, “It’s all going to work out Willow. You’ll see,” and snap? Possible. Very possible.
But, again, where did Willow get the gun?
Has Michael turned homicidal?
On the surface, it might seem that Michael is the killer. Tracy certainly suspects him. Thereโs no denying that Michael, more than anyone lately, has good reason to hate Drew and want him gone. Drew has spent the better part of a year trying to tear Michael’s family away from Michael. Drew has Willow and he’s working hard to get his clutches on Wiley and Amelia. I donโt know why Drew is so obsessed with hurting Michael, and it doesnโt matter at this point because as much as Drew might think he’ll succeed, Michael won’t let it happen. Michael will leave the country with those kids and vanish before he lets Drew near Wiley and Amelia.
Just because Tracy saw Michaelโs car near Drewโs house around the time of the shooting doesnโt mean that Michael pulled the trigger.ย For all we know, Michael drove there to confront Drew then thought better of it and left. Sure, Michael has access to guns, but Michael has consistently put his kids first. He would never put himself at risk of going to jail by going after Drew with a gun. That would be the quickest way to leave his kids vulnerable. Like I said, he could easily leave the country, so homicide is unnecessary.
Will an alibi be enough?
If Drew survives, he will likely be paralyzed. If not, he will fake paralysis to guilt Willow into moving back in with him to be his caretaker. All speculation on my part, but it’s right up Drew’s alley to manipulate Willow like that. Knowing Drew, he will also try to falsely accuse Michael so that Michael is arrested and the kids are sent to their mother. Even Willow jumped at the opportunity to point a finger at Michael when she talked to Lulu about possible suspects in the shooting.
But it seems that Michael might have an alibi. He went to the Port Charles Grill looking for a mysterious blonde woman. That woman turned out to be Jacinda, the escort that Nina and Portia hired to drug Drew. Will Jacinda be able to corroborate that Michael was with her at the time of the shooting? I hope so because I love Michael, and under absolutely no circumstances do I want to see Wiley and Amelia near Willow and Drew.
Also, since Michael was picking up the tab, wouldn’t his credit card activity provide proof that he was at the Port Charles Grill when Drew was shot? I don’t think he needs Jacinda.
Did Alexis retaliate for being barred from Scout?
Unfortunately, Scoutโs only possible savior is Alexis, but Alexis is embroiled in her own sticky wicket that includes Ava and Kristina. I still loathe Kristina, but I kinda dig Alexis and Ava working together. Alexis certainly has reason to kill Drew. Heโs been positively awful to her lately, and he’s hurting Scout by cutting her off from her loving family.
Alexisโ alibi is shaky at best. Even her partners-in-crime are suspicious of Alexisโ claim that sheโd been with Ric during the time in question. As the ladies pointed out, Alexis could have come in through the back door. Ric is of no help either since he has no real concept of time being imprisoned in a windowless basement.
Also, Alexis has killed before. I still remember how certain I was that Alexis had been innocent of killing Luis Alcazar. I was wrong. Alexis is a skilled liar who has gotten better over the years. Just look at her these days. Sheโs neck deep in shady dealings and criminal activity.
I donโt think Alexis shot Drew. She would have used Helenaโs dagger not a gun.
Nina has motive too
There is only one reason that Nina would want to kill Drew, but it’s a big one. Nina is the queen of poor choices, especially when it comes to her daughter, and she was completely blindsided when Willow announced that she had reconciled with Drew. She’s no fool. Nina knew that Willow would lose any hope of getting visitation with her kids as long as Drew was in the picture because where Drew went trouble quickly followed, especially for Willow.
Willow made a good point when she accused Nina of giving herself — as well as Willow — an alibi for the time of the shooting by claiming to have accompanied Willow on the walk. However, both women are idiots because General Hospital has security cameras all over the place including outside the hospital. All Anna has to do is check the cameras to see if Nina and Willow had met up to go singing and dancing in the rain.
Portia canโt be ruled out either
No one had more reasons for wanting Drew dead than Portia. He held both her freedom and her career in his hands. She already lost her marriage because of Drewโs blackmail, so how far would she go to keep from losing everything else? What Trina didnโt know was that Portia and Nina had hired an escort to drug Drew with ketamine that Portia had illegally obtained from Brad. Trina and Kai only knew about Heatherโs tampered test results, so they got just a part of the incriminating evidence against Portia.
I recall it was strongly implied that Drew had managed to track Jacinda down before Felicia could persuade Jacinda to talk to Curtis. I can’t imagine that Drew would let Jacinda walk away without getting some proof of Nina and Portia’s crimes. Not that it matters because Jacinda is back in town and looking for another payout from Portia and Nina. This should be interesting because I don’t think Jacinda will go quietly away as she once did.
I have to admit, I had really thought/hoped that Portia had scrubbed in on Drewโs surgery because she wanted to make sure that he wouldn’t come out of that operating room alive. It’s wrong, I know, but I was so disappointed when Lucas credited Portia for saving Drewโs worthless life. It’s not going to score her any goodwill points with Drew. Not unless he wakes up as the old Drew. ๐ค
Life moves fast on General Hospital
We all knew it would happen, but I was surprised by how quickly things escalated between Portia and Isaiah. No slow burn there. I doubt Curtis had made it to General Hospitalโs parking garage before Portia and Isaiah were knocking boots in her office. The next evening sheโs sliding into Isaiah’s bed as if she already has a key to his place.
How in love with Curtis could Portia have really been if she has moved on so easily with another guy? I don’t care how fine he is.
Wild card suspects
Iโve seen some crazy theories suggesting that Monica or Scout shot Drew. No way. Scout is a kid and despite how rotten Drew has been, she loves him. Monica has been in poor health, and she would have no reason to kill Drew. She didnโt like what he was doing and had long ago disowned him, but she wouldnโt kill him.
I know that we will soon be saying goodbye to Monica and our beloved Leslie Charleson, so I suspect Tracyโs fears will be realized and Monica will suffer some kind of tragic medical event off screen when she hears about Drewโs shooting.
The most likely suspect(s)
Anna and friends will likely suspect Sonny of murdering the judge and trying to take out Drew, but Iโm certain it was Sidwell and/or Marco. Marco is part of the conspiracy, but Iโm not sure that he has it in him to strangle a woman. Shooting Drew might be easier. Did Marco try to clean up the mess heโd made when he told Drew about the bribe that Judge Heran had received? He’s inept enough to shoot a man in the back twice and not kill him because Marco is a lawyer not a mob enforcer.ย
Sidwell is definitely responsible for Judge Heranโs death because we know that she called to tell him that Chase had been asking questions. Sonny is right. Itโs not a coincidence that the judgeโs body was found in the harbor directly across from Spoon Island.
I feel that if Sidwell had shot Drew or sent someone to kill him that Drew would be dead.
I canโt wait for next week when we get some more clues.
Meanwhile, at the Five Poppies resort โฆ
Britt discovered that Pascal was keeping Josslyn and Vaughn prisoner. Even more shocking to her, Joss is now a WSB agent. How Britt kept from laughing out loud is beyond me. I would have busted a gut.
Luckily for everyone, Jason was still at the airport when Britt called with an S.O.S. Jason jumped into action, returned to the resort and promptly dispatched the assassin that Pascal had sent. Jason also found Brittโs note letting him know where to find her. It was the first time โ since Jason and Britt first saw each other โ that Iโve been interested in this storyline.
I spy no spies
Josslyn and Vaughn seem so out of their depth in this storyline. Itโs why I have a hard time taking them seriously as spies. Both seem much more focused on their personal dynamics than the real and present danger they are facing. Anna and Robert wouldnโt have waited for someone to come back before attempting to escape. They would have used those scissors and been long gone before Pascal and his goons returned.
The only good thing to come out of Joss and Vaughnโs current predicament is that Brennan now knows that Colette is a double agent. We are also one step closer to finding out who the puppet master is.
Iโm more certain than ever that itโs Faison — or that rotten apple Peter. True, both are dead, but we all know supervillains have more lives than a herd of cats.ย I don’t think it’s Valentin simply because Colette tried to kill him. If she had been working for him, she would never have fired into the restaurant while Charlotte was there.
General Hospital Quick Takes
Why didn’t Kai and Trina simply say that they had arrived moments after the shooting? Who would have disputed that timeline? I also donโt understand Trinaโs decision to keep quiet about the evidence thatโs been hanging over Portiaโs head. Is it really better to leave Portia twisting in the wind?
Ouch! Stella was quick to assume the worst about Curtis proving that she really doesnโt know her nephew. If Curtis had shot Drew, then Drew would be dead.
Poor Scout. Why couldnโt she have gone to Monica instead of Willow? What a horrible decision by the writers. The only saving grace is that Elizabeth will be there to watch over Scout. A good thing because that child is going to need it.
Can we please get a love interest for Michael? Rory Gibson has chemistry with everyone he shares a scene with. We need a smoking hot romance on General Hospital to make up for the year-plus that weโve had to suffer through Drillow (Drew and Willow).
I love Ric. Heโs a gray (a dark gray) character with good looks, charm and a great sense of humor. Heโs bad enough to stir up trouble for others and give us great soapy moments, but he can be sweet too. That said, I donโt feel sorry for him being strapped to that table in Alexisโ basement. I keep thinking, โNow, you finally know how Carly felt chained to a bed in your panic room.โ

Faison — and others — back from the dead
“Daytime soaps have given us decades of ridiculous storylines, but I donโt know that Iโve ever seen one with four characters brought back from the dead at once. Robert, Anna and Faison all came back from the same boat explosion; but thereโs a certain logic in that if one survived, they all should have survived. Plus, no bodies. Faison and his spawn died in four separate incidents, and there was a dead body each time. If Britt survived, OK. Nathan too (and Iโm not sure itโs been confirmed thatโs who Ryan Peavy will be playing), OK. But it should end there. No one wants to see Peter again. Faison was a great villain at his peak, but he was mentally disassembling by the end. The only thing that makes sense there is if he was treating his own Huntingtonโs, he would have a treatment for Britt as well.” — Kathie
“Please no more Faison, aside from his brain being in a jar his character is played out, boring, and adds nothing.” — CeeGee

Great post as usual, Liz. I donโt believe that Michael shot Drew either.
Drew is running around saying that the judge got a million dollar pay-off the night before the custody ruling. I never heard Sidwell mention a number so where did Drew come up with this number? The judge went to Wyndemere the day after her ruling and Sidwell said that the rest of the payment was being sent to her account. This is another reason that I don’t think Sidwell had the judge killed. She called Sidwell, or so we think, just before she was killed and she visted Wyndemere the day after the ruling so that’s two incidents that tie her to Sidwell. In light of that, it would be be prettty dumb to kill her when it would be so easy to link them together. Plus it’s a soap, they never go from point A to Point B.
Then there’s the fact that the judge was strangled. Strangulation is not what one would expect in a “professional” hit, it is more personal ( I’m watching too many CSI shows). That is why I’ll go out on a limb and say that Willow killed the judge. Let’s not forget that Kristina told Willow that it was the judge that took away her kids, not Michael. Yes, Willow is appearing to be fragile, fainting, getting emotional , etc. , but her stalking of Daisy and gaslighting Sasha revealed that Willow is very devious so I think she is putting on an act. I don’t think that she shot Drew though.
Did anyone notice the close-up of the gun when Drew was shot? It did not look to be in pristine condition. Like a gun that was retrieved from the Port Charles river maybe?
Nina looks ready to throw Portia to the wolves.
Did someone point Jacinda towards Michael? That did not seem like a chance meeting. But, it does look like Michael has an alibi which is likely why he is looking for her. Right again Liz Masters. Michael’s credit card bill would be time stamped. It would also show the drink he bought Jacinda. I doubt he ordered the same drink for himself.
I thought it was odd when Kai said he thought Alexis had a key to Drew’s house. Just can’t imagine Drew giving Alexis a key to his house.
I WANT to believe Willow killed the judge or shot Drew. This woman is losing her grip on reality and the actions she’s taken are irrational: screaming at the judge when she awarded custody to Michael, targeting Daisy and Sasha, deliberately defying the judge’s order by showing up at the pool to see Wiley, losing control at Carly’s when she came to her house in her wedding dress, demanding to see her son, hitting Lucas. Everyone needs to see how volatile and mentally unstable she is and finding out she killed the judge or shot Drew would certainly bring all of that out. Willow has a motive to kill both and is more than capable of murder, However, Willow is petite and doesn’t look particularly strong to me, so I don’t think she has the power to stand behind the judge and strangle her to death. She DOES have the power to pull a trigger, twice. I have a feeling that the person who shot Drew was ALREADY in the house when Drew got home, and BEFORE Trina and Kai showed up. It is entirely possible Willow DID shoot him. Where did she get the gun? I’m sure Drew has one and Willow would know where it is. I believe if it WAS Willow, she got to the house, let herself in with her key, found the gun and then heard Trina and Kai come in the house from the back and had time to hide. Then, Drew got home, and she shot him as he stood at the fireplace. If the person wasn’t already IN the house, he or she would have had to come in the FRONT DOOR, and storm or no storm, Drew would have heard it open. The person ran out the front door and closed it loud enough for Kai and Trina to hear it and know whoever shot the gun had left. Same thing could have happened with Nina. We know she had a key because she let herself in that time when she searched his house and Drew caught her. Plus, Nina probably has her OWN gun, having been married to Sonny, etc… I WANT it to be Willow, but my guess is the shooter is Nina. She already knew Drew had been shot when she got to the hospital and deliberately interrupted Chase and Anna questioning Willow. Nina saw the perfect opportunity to give HERSELF an alibi by claiming she was with Willow on her ‘walk.’ Nina didn’t do that for Willow, she did that for her, selfish as always. She used and manipulated her own daughter to save herself. Nina told Willow she was the number one suspect knowing that was also a lie, because Willow was back with Drew and thought he was the ONLY one who could get her kids back.
As bad as Nina’s relationship with Willow has been, it is surprising that she would make up that story of them being together and expect Willow to go along with it.
Nina isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. But I think Willow will go along with it if resentfully. I suspect she was doing something else she should not have been–like checking in on her kids at the Quartermaines.
The funniest alibi though has to be Alexis thinking she can say she was with Kristina AND Ava and no one will think that is weird, LOL. For a variety of reasons, I don’t think Alexis shot Drew. The biggest being attempted murder is a disproportionate response to not being able to see your granddaughter. But you know who would find that a good enough reason to shoot someone? Ava of course which is why her first thought was “credit goes to Alexis”. Hahaha. I think Ava is just an awful person, but my goodness she makes me laugh. Maura West is a gem
Perhaps the gun was Drew’s, and Willow grabbed it because she knew where it was.
Next, on “Hypocrite Junction”!
Tuesday (Cuz Monday was Labradoodle Day)
So, Alexis is receiving Guests (Curtis) as if she doesn’t have her Possibly Brain Damaged Ex being Held Hostage in her Basement.
Has Ric peed yet?
Can I say “Peed” or will I get sent to the cornfield?
I have No Idea what Kai and Trina are talking about (In EwDrew’s Office yet), because all I can see is how his shirt is CLINGING to whatever he’s wearing underneath, and is Totally Misshapen and Wrinkled.
~~~
And What is Wrong with Liz, defending Wallow, claiming that Carly and Mikey are *Pushing* Wallow Back to Shiloh/EwDrew.
When did Liz get so stupid?
Again I ask:
Who Killed Da Judge?
Who Killed Da Judge?
Who Killed Da Judge?
Well we know it wasn’t Sonny or Mikey, but you KNOW they’ll get blamed.
Snidely Sidwell?
Marco Polo?
Both?
Probably.
~~~
Well, now, how many People want to see EwDrew Pushing Up Daisies??
Alexis, Curtis, Carly, Mikey, Porthole, Ninny, Sonny, Trina, Kai….
And that’s just Tuesday’s Episode!
Who else yelled “YES!” when those Shots rang out and struck EwDrew down?
Betcha it was Marco Polo.
Or Snidely Sidwell.
Or Mikey.
Or Curtis.
Or Ninny.
Or Porthole….Or….
Wallow?
Where’d she get a Gun?
Also, WHY didn’t the Shooter aim for Drew’s Giant Head???
Well we finally got our “Who Shot Congressman Jazz Hands?” Story.
We know it wasn’t Kai or Trina.
That leaves just about Ninety-Nine Percent of the Eastern Seaboard.
However, Idiot Kai left the Bat he was carrying in the Living Room next to EwDrew.
Covered in his prints.
Plus…
How Stupid are Agents Barbie and Ken?
That whole time they’re sitting there, Joss could have gotten up and easily snapped those Zipties on Vaughn’s hands.
Hell, why couldn’t Vaughn snap them?
Why is Joss crawling in the floor like an idiot?
Oh, look, Joss finally figured out how to Stand Up.
And she’s supposed to be an Athlete?

Um.
When did Porthole become a Surgeon?

Yep.

“Also, since Michael was picking up the tab, wouldnโt his credit card activity provide proof that he was at the Port Charles Grill when Drew was shot? I donโt think he needs Jacinda.” Also, the waiter remembered seeing Michael there that night.
Great column, Liz.
I was on the emotional roller coaster of DrEW’s shooting with (yay! he got shot; boo! he lived; yay! visibly unstable Portia is scrubbing in and will finish him off; boo! she saved him).
I am glad you mentioned Ric in your column; he’s a great point of comparison for DrEW. Ric is a villain (or at least villainOUS) but he’s also charming, clever, and witty. He’s got a mix of qualities that makes him someone you variably love, hate, and love to hate.
DrEW (like Peter before him) has been written as so one note since he became a villain, and for me, that makes him unwatchable. I literally fast-forward almost every scene he’s in because I feel like I know exactly what is going to happen/what he’s going to say.
If the writers want to keep DrEW around longer term, they’ve GOT to give him more dimension. I don’t think fans generally beg for the death of a well-crafted villain and many past ones are still missed (for me – Helena and Victor Cassadine are two examples).
I wouldn’t be surprised if Drew owned a gun and had it in his safe. Willow has a key to Drew’s house and there’s a chance she may also have the combination to his safe. Even if she doesn’t, he left the safe unlocked and then walked away. Willow could have let herself in the house when he walked over to the safe, then after he walked away from it, took the gun out of the safe and shot him. It’s a stretch, but I’m not willing to let her off the hook yet. Also, a number suspects for Drew’s shooting are people that are not likely to have a gun, yet they still have strong motives, so I wouldn’t rule them out just for that reason.
Back when I started watching soap operas in the 80s and into the 90s, who dunnit murders followed a fairly predictable path. There might be a number of main characters who were suspects, but one of them would never be the killer. Unless they were leaving the show or it could be explained away as an accident, self defense or due to a mental breakdown. Like when Laura killed that guy or Alexis killed Luis Alcazar. Sometimes the guilty party would be a resident bad guy. Perhaps the most common was to pin it on some random or secondary character that wouldn’t be missed when he or she got hauled to prison. Like that nurse who killed Dr. Dornan. And you know what, I don’t even remember who killed Susan Moore. That’s how obscure that person was.
Following that pattern, the most likely Drew shooters would be Jacinda, Sidwell and a mentally unstable Willow. But Jacinda and Michael appear to be each other’s alibi. And the way the show dropped her in Michael’s path seems to indicate GH has other plans for her. Liz Masters went over the problems with Sidwell and Willow as the shooter. It is noteworthy that soap operas are not known for tight plot construction; any of these issues could just be weak plot points. I think Sidwell is strong possibility. Except for the fact he or his hitman would have aimed that second shot at the head not the back.
But we are also in the age of Sonny Corinthos where you can murder a FBI agent in cold blood and face absolutely no consequences. This really opens things up to the possibility it could be literally anyone. The upside of mixed up morality! Looking at things this way, I think Nina makes the most sense as the shooter. She could get into Drew’s house. She was the most likely of all the suspects to think of the situation as dire enough to justify murder–I just don’t think that’s the case with Alexis, Portia, Michael or certainly not Carly. But she’d be an amateur killer and possibly too squeamish to finish Drew off effectively. Nina is also too self centered to wonder if Drew’s little girl was sleeping upstairs before she shot him. Which is something that would give everyone else (except Sidwell) pause.
