Drew is at war with the Quartermaines — and pretty much everyone else in town. Is it good soapy television or a soapy flop? Has Portia sealed the fate of her marriage by giving in to Drew’s blackmail? Elsewhere, trouble brews for Ava as Kristinaโs hatred toward her mounts. Itโs all about family matters in this weekโs General Hospital commentary for the week ending March 14, 2025,
It seemed like the theme of the week on General Hospital was family matters. Anna and Jason brought Charlotte home to Lulu, Brook Lynn confessed that she wants to find with her son, and Drewโs war with the Quartermaines heated up. Letโs start there.
Congressman Cutthroat vs Port Charles
There are many adjectives that I could think of to describe Drew. But โcutthroatโ is not one of them. What Drew is doing to the Quartermaines is vile, petty, and most likely illegal. However, it’s not ruthless. It’s desperate. Even Drew acknowledges that part of the mausoleum sits on Quartermaine property, which means that the entire crypt canโt be torn down. Tracy could easily keep this tied up in the courts for years before anyone — city or otherwise — can legally remove those bodies and tear that building down.
All that said, is it good soapy drama? Most viewers donโt want to see any of the Quartermaines moved or for Drew to prevail in this battle. If anything, most would prefer that Drew joined those dead Quartermaines in the crypt. But far in the back, near the utility closet.
Drew is definitely in villain mode these days. He’s using his congressional seat to harass the Quartermaines, and he’s blackmailing Portia with evidence he obtained from our resident mob boss lady, Selina Wu. His family has disowned him, and he has no friends. No one likes Drew with the exception of Willow. Even Martin seems to have a disdain for the congressman, but he puts up with him simply because it allows Martin to go toe-to-toe with Tracy.
Nobody does it better than General Hospital — except this time
A villainโs origin story is critical to the success of a good soap villain. It helps the viewer understand what makes the baddie tick and helps them decide if there is room for redemption. Over the years, General Hospital has given us some of the best. Helena Cassadine, Jerry Jacks, and Cesear Faison just to name a few. Each had longevity because they were entertaining, crafty and most importantly they never truly prevailed. In the end, they would either be carted off to jail or evade capture by vanishing into the night and off our television screens.
There were a few who managed to buck the trend like Sonny Corinthos and Edward Quartermaine, but they were the exception to the rule. Drew is not because he lacks the charm and cunning that both Sonny and Edward displayed. Additionally, Sonny and Edward lived by a code, while Drew does not.
No code is a no-go
The problem with Drew is that his metamorphosis to villain was never really explained. He went from being a hero to the steaming mess he is now after his beatdown in jail. The tipping point was learning that Nina had ratted him out to the SEC. Drew was also incensed that had Michael leveraged the damaging information to keep Nina away from Willow and the kids. He felt that Michael should have confided in Drew, so that Drew use it to his advantage.
Drew bears zero resemblance to the great man he once was. Heโs manipulative, vengeful, and a dog. His personality has shifted 180 degrees, and he appears to be driven by anger only. That might be sustainable for a character that viewers love to hate, but that is not the case with Drew. Most of us just hate him.
I work with several people who watch General Hospital, and each has expressed to me how much they want Drew to meet a violent end. Thatโs how much heโs despised. People arenโt just rooting for Drew to go away; they want him to stay gone. That is never good for a character’s future.
Weeping Willow, the newly crowned Queen of Hypocrites of General Hospital
Hilariously, Willow had the audacity to confront Sasha about being pregnant with Michaelโs uncleโs baby. She literally suggested that what Sasha did was worse than Willow and Drewโs tawdry affair. No, Willow, itโs not. Sasha dated Michael eons ago, so there were no broken promises. Willow also made some other unfounded and unkind accusations that really showed an ugly side to Willow.
We can see who Willow really is in the way that sheโs been treating Sasha. Willow is doing to Sasha what Willow continually complains others are doing to her. Worse, that ugly little exchange before Sashaโs ultrasound was on General Hospitalโs time. It was both unprofessional and dangerous. As a nurse, Willow should know that a woman with a history of placental abruption — which ultimately led to the death of Sasha’s baby — should avoid stressful situations.
The wrong side of history
The writing for Willow has been horrible since that 4th of July kiss with Drew. Sheโs become as detestable as her lover, and she has lost her moral compass. Her lack of outrage to learning that Drew was indeed threatening to desecrate the final resting place of his own family members just to spite Tracy only showed that Willow is equally reprehensible. Willow has no decency. Did she forget that those dead Quartermaines are also Wiley and Ameliaโs family? One day, those children will learn of this and how their mother had stood on the wrong side of history in this battle.
Viewers want to see justice served, and we have not gotten that with Drew and Willow. These are not good people caught in a bad situation. They are two horribly selfish cheaters who think their only sin was falling in love. That’s not good soapy drama. It’s delusional.
Other Quartermaine family matters
Unfortunately, a much bigger scandal is about to rock the Quartermaines. Brook Lynn will soon learn that both Lois and Gloria have been keeping a huge secret from her. Worse, they decided to keep their explosive secret despite Brook Lynn making it very clear that she wanted to find her adult son. Talk about messy family matters.
I’m disappointed with both Lois and Gloria. Itโs one thing if Gio had been adopted by a family and they had lost touch with him, but itโs another to have Gio sitting right under Brook Lynn’s nose. It’s not right. Brook Lynn and Gio deserve to know the truth. Dante too.
Lois and Gloria can see that Gio is a good and well-adjusted young man. He already loves Brook Lynn, so itโs not going to destroy his world to learn that he was adopted. Being adopted doesnโt change the love his adoptive mother had for him or that he had for her. He will be shocked and hurt that no one had told him the truth sooner, but he will get passed all of that because heโs surrounded by love.
It will also help knowing that Brook Lynn had been as deceived as he’d been. They will be able to help each other make peace with Lois and Gloriaโs lies. Gio will also gain both a father and brother.
Portiaโs past comes back to bite her
This week, Ric gave Portia some bad news. Her goose is cooked if the authorities should learn that she tampered with Heatherโs test results. Losing her medical license and getting fired from General Hospital will be the least of Portia’s troubles. Turns out, Portia could face criminal charges and possible jail time for tampering with evidence. To save her bacon — and possibly her marriage — Portia has to keep Drew happy. That means she must comply with his demands.
Drew definitely has the upper hand in this situation. He knows that family matters to Portia, and she would do anything to save her marriage. But Portia has forgotten the golden rule. Itโs never the crime, but the coverup that is a personโs undoing.
Yes, Portia broke the law, but there were extenuating circumstances that would factor in when a judge sentenced her. Also, she has a clean record, her husband is a pilar of the community, and she has done a lot of good for the patients of General Hospital. I mean, besides that whole Oz Haggerty stuff that only Curtis knows about.
It’s for that reason that I canโt understand why Portia doesnโt trust Curtis with the truth. He already knows the worst about her. Lying at this point does far more damage than good. Perhaps they could have worked together to find a way turn the tables on Drew. We will never know. Portia sealed her fate by giving in to Drew.
Corinthos family matters
I don’t know that Ava is thinking. She has to know that she’s playing with fire by continually pushing Kristinaโs buttons. I get it. Ava is tired of being falsely accused of killing Irene, but she’s not helping things by playing these games with Kristina. On her best day, Kristina is emotionally unstable and impulsive.
The writers took a perfectly good character (Kristina) and ruined her with a horrible storyline. When it was over, they made no effort to let Kristina evolve and grow. Instead, she was left to stew in the juices of anger, resentment, and denial. I hope the writers take note. They are doing to Willow what they’ve done to Kristina.
I have zero empathy for Kristina because she hasn’t done the work to heal. As far as I can tell, she has not gone to therapy or made any real effort to make peace with what happened. How could she? Her parents continue to coddle her and treat her as if she were a teenager rather than a grown woman in her 30s.
I was particularly irked by Kristina during Fridayโs episode when she tried to badger Isaiah into violating doctor/patient privacy by telling her what ailed Sonny. When her efforts failed, she tried to manipulate Sonny by claiming that Isaiah had โconfirmedโ to her that something was seriously wrong.
Isaiah did no such thing. Kristina made that assumption all on her own. Just because she was correct doesn’t make it right. Ugh. I just canโt stand her. She does this sort of thing all the time.
In a battle between Ava and Kristina, I will be Team Ava.
Love and forgiveness General Hospital style
Iโm also Team Elizabeth. But that doesn’t mean I ship all of her relationships. As much as I enjoy Ric, I readily admit that he belongs firmly in the friend zone. He might love Liz to the point of obsession, but he failed her in love time and again. The same is true for Lucky.
Lucky might have saved the day when Cyrus showed up with deadly intentions, but that didnโt wipe the slate clean. Not for me. I have no problem with the writers rekindling Lizโs romance with Lucky, but I want to see Lucky earning that second chance. He has a lot to make up for, especially with Aiden.
Both Aiden and Liz deserve better, and so do we. I have no doubt that family matters to Lucky, but I need to see that he will put Aiden first instead of falling back into old patterns once things settle down.
An act of love — or part of a masterplan?
General Hospitalโs last standing Cassadine troublemaker made his way back to Port Charles, but first he did the honorable thing. He sent Charlotte home to her mother, Lulu. The Cassadines are notorious for twisted family matters, but I was quite proud of Valentin for putting Charlotteโs safety first.
Thereโs no disputing that Valentin loves Charlotte more than life itself, but heโs a deeply flawed man with selfish tendencies. Itโs why he cut Lulu out of the first part of Charlotteโs life and allowed another woman to play mother to Charlotte. He had no regrets about his choices. Valentin admitted that he didnโt want to share his only child with Lulu. He spent those early years forming an unbreakable bond with Charlotte and never looked back. That bond is stronger than ever.
Thereโs no contest. If Charlotte had to choose between Lulu and Valentin, sheโd pick Valentin all day, every day. Itโs why I now suspect Valentin never intended for Charlotte to stay with Lulu for long. It was all a part of a masterplan.
As surprised as I was to see Valentin at the close of Fridayโs episode (well played writers) I quickly realized that I should have seen it coming. Obviously, Valentin sent Charlotte home to keep her safe while he carries out his mission to neutralize Jack. Once that is accomplished, Valentin will fetch Charlotte and spirit her away. Unfortunately for Lulu, Charlotte won’t hesitate to leave with him.
General Hospital spy games
Jack and Carly hit the sheets. But we all know there’s trouble is ahead. Iโm not referring to the threat of Valentin either. Carly is going to blow a gasket when she learns that Jack recruited Josslyn to be a WSB agent. It’s not a matter of if but rather when that will happen. Itโs a soap opera and the writers love nothing more than to blow up relationships.
Folks, I like Chris McKenna, and his version of Jack Brennan is growing on me. However, Iโd be lying if I said the thought of Charles Mesure during Carly and Jack’s love scene didn’t briefly cross my mind. I miss him, so Iโm still trying to get used to our new Jack.
General Hospital quick takes
Emma is growing on me. I really enjoyed her defense of Tracy during the mausoleum brouhaha with Drew. Iโm also really enjoying her scenes with Gio. She makes him interesting, and he brings out the best in her.
Two good questions were raised about Drew legal stunt:
- Congress is in session, so why isn’t Drew in Washington, D.C?
- If the county hasn’t surveyed the land, how did Drew obtain that court order?
Jordan and Isaiah sizzle together. I loved their scenes at her apartment, and I cracked up when she answered the door in that beauty mask. Speaking of Jordan, will we soon learn what’s become of T.J.?
Did anyone else get strong Tyler Christopher vibes from Adrian Anchondo (Marco)? I love that Lucas has a possible new love interest, but Adrian could have easily been cast as a Cassadine.
I hate how Taggert has been completely erased from Trinaโs life. He was her father for the first eighteen years of her life, yet no mention of him when family and friends gathered to celebrate Trinaโs birthday. Do better General Hospital. Trina has two fathers. Family isn’t just about biology.
I loved the scene in Metro Court’s restaurant when Carly, Lulu, and Maxie were having lunch. Enough with Maxie being Team Switzerland in the Drew/Willow saga. I want her to join forces with Nina and Carly to help take Drew down.

Liz, the thing that sucks about them making lucky into a deadbeat dad is that before he left in 2011, he was a great dad. I hate that they had to change who he is in order to explain why the character was leaving.
I agree. Lucky was a wonderful dad at one time. I don’t think it would take much effort to fix that. All the writers need to do is show Lucky more focused on Aiden than Liz, and spending quality time alone with his son. Maybe getting a place and a decent job so he can pay for Aiden to go to culinary school.
Lulu really needs to mind her own blankin’ business.
I did enjoy watching The Anti-Emma give Drew his comeuppance. Neither Drew or Martin had any authority to do anything about the Q family crypt. Drew was elected to a “Federal” office and this is a local issue that the Mayor, Laura Collins, should be handling. Not only is Liz Masters right about Tracy being able to tie this up in court for years, the amount of property involved is so small that a judge might throw the case out or just order the Q’s to pay for the land. But back at the police station, they are asking Drew not to press charges. Why? The surveyor acted on Martin’s signal to press charges. Drew has no authority over local issues.
The Q mansion has more guests than the Metro Court.
I hated how Lulu confronted Brook Lynn as if she had the right to judge and demand answers. It was between Dante, BLQ, and Gio and no one else.
Lulu should have either kept her mouth shut or told Dante what she found, but she had no business badgering BLQ like that.
Good point about Drew being asked to drop the charges. Another reason I hate this Drew nonsense. The writers expect us to suspend our disbelief and our intelligence.
I believe that you once wrote that your were willing to suspend your reality but not your intellegence. I’ve always remebered and agreed with that comment.
Two things
1. I feel like the upcoming press conference about the pediatric program has the opportunity for a public airing of dirty laundry.
I would LOVE it if Portia used the opportunity to admit what she did and put drEWWW on blast for blackmailing her.
But I fear Congressmanchild Drew will instead reveal Portia’s misdeeds in an effort to hurt Curtis.
2. Marco’s JenSidwell Industries card makes me think they’ve introduced Blaze’s brother as Lucas’ new man.
Anyone else getting those same vibes?
I get the same vibe from Marco!
Great column Liz!
I am still of the belief that Drew is just Angry Drew and he is mad at the whole world and will make them bow down to him. I still believe this is an act of revenge – first again Nina (by seducing her daughter) and then Michael (which really makes no sense at all – but hey, this is the cards on the table). Drew thinks he knows best, he is on a roll of LUCK (go grief – the man was elected to Congress!) and he will prevail. Never mind the black mail (that will get him kicked out of congress) on Portia. He thinks he is invincible. It makes for great soap, but it is sad to see the Drew that Billy Miller created be gone with the wind.
Gio – bless his heart. I feel for this character as his world is about to be nuked in the name of Justice and truth for Dante by Lulu. I agree it is bad because Lois literally kept him where she could keep watch, and involve his pateranl grandfather inknowingly in the process. I feel sad for BLQ, even though this is a retcon. AS played her beuatifully on learning she bore a son.
Secret Agent Joss is a fast learner – this is going to be fun. And I really wish TPTB would bring back EH as another young WSB agent for Joss. Vaugh is a cutie, and there will be a love/ hate relationship that will be fun, but EH/ E McC have the chemistry.
I hope we get St. Patrick’s Day in PC – Blessings to all from this Descendant of one of the Clans!
I recently took a DNA test and learned that I am 24% Irish!!
Humor Me, You have a great eye, I didn’t pay any attention to the business card that Lucas picked up. Thanks for pointing it out.
Good column. Spot on. Count me smong the folks who wants Drew killed off. What an awful character.
Thank you! Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but it feels a bit like they are setting Drew up for a murder mystery — or something else.
This Week, on “Hypocrite Junction!”:
**[Liz, it’s great to “see” you, but PLEASE don’t call EwDrewQ ,or any other Vile Being, a “Dog”.
I HATE Drew.
I LOVE Dogs.
Dogs are Loyal and Good.
Drew is Dirt.]
I Repeat:
EwDrewQ Must Die.
Maybe Emma will kill him!!
She seems to be Popping Up Everywhere.
She also seems to Think She Knows Everything, so let’s put that “Knowledge” to Work!
Besides, Joss is off in Spy School, so it’s time for Emma to take over Mean Girl Duties.
She can start by driving EwDrewQ Out of Office (not that he actually ever Showed Up, anyway, as he’s been way too busy stalking Willow and Seeking Revenge on Those Who Go Against Him).
Maxi looks Terrific.
What’s Up with Anna’s Lips?
When she was in the car with Jason staking out Val and Charlotte in Buenos Aires, I thought she was having an Allergic Reaction!!
~~~~
I’ve had enough Nasty NuLulu.
I was truly hoping BLQ would knock her Out Cold.
She needs to be back in a Coma.
~~~~
Oh Look!! John Travolta’s Sister is back!!!
And Grandma Gloria Knows Everything.
Maybe now we’ll get some progress in all of this.
~~~
As usual, I found myself enjoying Every Word Uttered from Tracy’s Lips as she Ripped Drew a New Rectum in the Interrogation Room.
Every word out of Drew’s Mealy Mouth is a Lie.
He really has become the Epitome of the Evil Politician.
Did Helena’s Ghost inject some of Faison’s Evil Brain Cells into Drew while he was in Prison the last time?
Omg the Golden Bachelorette Guy is Creepy!!!
Yikes.
Ninny can have him.
Speaking of Creepy.
The Most Recent Aiden looks as if he’s maybe a few years younger than Lucky.
Definitely doesn’t look like a teenager!
That kid’s Five O Clock Shadow is darker than Lucky’s!
And why wouldn’t Ninny give Ava the “loan” she needs?
After all, Ninny did steal Avery from Ava’s Womb so she sort of owes her, right?
What are Best Soap Frenemies for?
~~~
Willow to Sasha:
“My Mom was never a Con Artist like yours!”
Um, Brillo?
Which Mom?
The one who stole you as a Baby, put you in a Cult and had the Cult Leader Rape and Impregnate you?
The same Mom (Harmony) who killed Alexis’s Boyfriend, Psychiatrist Neil Byrne, who helped Krissy get out of Dawn of Day??
Or Ninny, the Mom you only recently acknowledged, the same person who stole Ava’s Baby from her Womb??
~~~~
That Dude that Lucas was Pouring His Heart Out To/Swapping Spit With at the Bar reminded me of a Young Snidely Whiplash.
I don’t trust him.
~~~
Well I’ll be!!
Dr. Gannon is wearing a Stethoscope!!
At Val (oops) Sonny’s House.
Never in the Hospital, though.
(Also, he didn’t actually *use* it.)
And…In Bursts NotKrissy.
Don’t bother knocking or anything.
Not even a, “Hi, Dad! It’s Me Bursting In Unannounced with Rocco!!”
She’s just Rude.
Especially pushing Gannon to break HIPPA Laws, just because she’s NotKrissy.
“Talk to Your Dad” was the Correct Answer.
Families hate that, but Medical Professionals need to Follow Rules even if Obnoxious Family Members don’t like it.
So There.
Okay, so Porthole likes to Blab Patient Information all over the Halls of GH, but Isaiah is doing the right thing.
~~~
Oh it’s Trina’s Birthday again?
How old is she this time?
I’m glad her “Date” was interrupted.
I don’t know how much of Trina’s Chicken-Peck Kissing Sessions with Kai I can stomach.
~~~
Scarlett Fernandez got tall!!!
I truly hope TPTB don’t pull an Emma on Charlotte,
Can we NOT SORAS just for once? Or Twice?
I’d love to see Charlotte grow up at a Human Pace.
~~~
Val’s Back!!!
Hmmm…
Wonder if that Champagne has a Nuclear Warhead in it?
LOL! I love dogs too. Thanks for pointing out my insult to the precious furbabies. My deepest apologies.
I agree about Aiden. Nothing against Colin Cassidy, but casting missed the mark. Colin is 24, Aiden is supposed to be 15/16. Were all the teen actors booked?
I have to apologize to the Weasels of the World when I describe Brad!!!
And what’s up with these 20-Something Actors playing teens?
It’s bad enough the babies (who survive) on GH are born already cutting teeth!
“…born already cutting teeth!” OMG, that’s hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.
It’s just weird and somewhat creepy to see someone who is 24 and looks 24, try to act like a 15 year old kid.
Great column! My main reaction this week to the show was…boredom. Enough with hammering us over the head for the umpteenth time(s) with how horrible Drew has become, how sickening Willow’s unhealthy relationship with him is, how inevitable the secret of Gio’s parentage coming out is (this poor kid loves his REAL mom — the woman who raised him so lovingly — and her memory so much, I am nauseated in advance for how they are going to rip that away from him without any choice on his part, and redux what they have done to Taggert by having Trina act like Curtis has filled a father role that was somehow missing her entire life.) And ugh to the prospect of setting Dante and Lulu up for a relationship reunion somehow as part of the overall fallout, SOOO not feeling it.
Also, when they brought Ric back initially I was thrilled that they were allowing the character to have multiple dimensions, but now it just seems like his only motivation (again, over and over and over) is to spite Sonny and obsess over Elizabeth. What a waste.
It also seems like after setting it up they have backed way off having Jason and Sasha have any sort of meaningful relationship (not just romantic but any interactions of interest) and have decided to make Sasha an idiot by putting her (and her baby, not to be believed that she has two brain cells to rub together) under Sidwell’s thumb
The only spark of real interest the whole week was the prospect that Valentin might come back for real. That would be incredible and maybe we could get the real Anna back as well! And ok, also loving Jordan these days, give her more to do!
Thank you!
I’m happy to have Ric back, and I think he and Ava have oodles of potential. I see things a bit differently. His obsession with Liz is part of who he is. He wouldn’t be Ric if it wasn’t there. Liz will always be the one who got away — repeatedly.
And as much as Ric despises his brother — for good reason I might add — I think it’s much more toned down this time around. He enjoys spiting Sonny, but he doesn’t plot against him. He takes advantage of situations, which is fine with me.
The truth is, Sonny makes it easy to hate him.
Those are good points Liz! I just loved Ricโs increased self-awareness when he first returned (like when he spoke so movingly with Molly about how he didnโt want to see her make the same mistakes heโs had) that I yearn for him to continue to be a more fully dimensional character and not just reacting and playing the spoiler. I do love his chemistry with Ava but hope itโll be more than them just bringing out the worst in each other or trying to make Sonny and Kristina miserable and thereby continuing their claims to being victims ๐
The sooner Drew and Willow can get their comeuppance, the better.
I was also surprised to see Valentin outside Jack’s hotel room. While I did think Jack and Carly’s night would be interrupted, I thought maybe Jack’s phone would get a text while he was in the shower, and Carly would see some mention of Josslyn on it, leaving Jack to come up with some excuse. Valentin clearly isn’t coming back to stay, so I wonder how they’re going to wrap up this storyline for him.
I thought the same thing about Joss.
Liz, I just read a good point about how a lot of people are defending Michael and Sashaโs hookup because of them being drunk. However, it was pointed out that someone had to drive them to the hotel. Is it a fair point to say that they had plenty of time to rethink hooking up? Itโs not like they just went upstairs. They had to be driving to a hotel in order to hook up.
