General Hospital Commentary: Ruin the Friendship

Dear Readers, at one point in your life or another, you have probably been friends with someone you were totally crushing on but hesitated to tell them. Why? Because if they didnโ€™t share your affections, you took the risk of losing a precious connection. Itโ€™s always such a fragile and vulnerable choice to admit that you want more. That’s doubly true on General Hospital.

Emma took the plunge this week and kissed Gio as I screamed, โ€œFinally!โ€ at my TV. They are adorable together. Braedyn Bruner and Giovanni Mazza have a lovely chemistry, and they could definitely be the Robin and Patrick of this generation. Two young, smart, driven people who fit perfectly together and are ridiculously gorgeous. And kudos to Outback whose adventure to the stables facilitated the kiss. A sweet storyline.

Some Swiftie advice

And as an unashamed Silver Swiftie, I think Taylorโ€™s advice is spot on, โ€œMy advice is always ruin the friendship, better that than regret it for all time.โ€ Emma let her emotions carry her into a kiss, and it turned out to be the right move, because Gio felt the same way. Imagine if neither of them told the other and then they woke up at 50 saying, โ€œShouldโ€™ve kissed you anyway.โ€ The friendship was not ruined. Now itโ€™s a love story.

Hopefully, this means Gio wonโ€™t be moving in with Sonny, because as much as I love his dimpled grandpa, I anticipate more chaos coming Sonnyโ€™s way. Sidwell has been way too quiet recently, but I donโ€™t think he has given up his desire to get rid of Sonny. Seriously, where is he? Sidwell has all but vanished โ€“ is he in cahoots with Faison or Professor Dalton or whichever bad guy is behind the Five Poppies?

Now, Britt is back, Nathan is back, and we still donโ€™t know how or why. Who knows, maybe someone took Faisonโ€™s brain out of the jar and cloned him into an entirely new villain. I just want to know. November sweeps are coming, so maybe we will find out soon. Itโ€™s odd to me that Britt is so fearful of Nathan going out into the world. What does she know about Nathan that he doesnโ€™t know about himself? All Nathan wants is to be a father to James, even though Jamesโ€™s “Father Figure,” Spinelli is a bit broken-hearted about it.

I loved the sweet scenes where Nathan and Spinelli discussed what was best for James and how to move forward. They are both such beautiful and kind men, I think they could end up friends down the line. They both love James and they both love Maxie.

General Hospital’s Ophelia

But Nathanโ€™s sister Britt is still being as cold as ice to Jason even though he clearly wants to save her from the “Fate of Ophelia” and bring love and respect into her life. Heโ€™s the one lover sheโ€™s ever had that can handle her as she is, wholly unfiltered and not run away. Jason knows her misdeeds and accepts her anyway. Every other love interest sheโ€™s ever had on General Hospital was bamboozled by Britt in some way. I understand that Jason hurt her when he chose to save Carly from federal charges, but he had to protect the family, especially after the fallout from Sonnyโ€™s supposed death. It wasnโ€™t a rejection of the heart, even though it clearly felt that way to Britt.

But Jasonโ€™s quest to thaw Brittโ€™s icy heart was diminished this week when his focus was split by the reading of Monicaโ€™s will and the drama at the Q house. Enter the fabulous Erika Slezak as Veronica Bard, Monicaโ€™s previously unknown sister.

The story of us

Readers, I went to college in the 80โ€™s and I took a class called โ€œModern Pop Culture.โ€ Part of my grade was dependent on this; there were so many soaps on the air back then that our professor told us to pick one network, watch all of their soaps and at the end of the semester we had to write a paper about why people watched them, what their value was, etc.

Since I already watched General Hospital, I chose ABC as my Network. I watched Ryanโ€™s Hope, All My Children, One Life to Live and obviously General Hospital. This was a tough course. I mean I had to sit in the student center for 3.5 hours every day drinking .25 beers and asking other girls why they liked soaps and taking notes whenever a soap tackled a hot button issue of the time. Okay, it wasnโ€™t tough at all. It was awesome.

A Taylor-made job

My parents said, โ€œWhy donโ€™t you take something serious that will help you get a job?โ€ and year later, after I had been working for Dan for a decade, I pointed out to my mom that my soap opera college class was the ONLY class I took in college that directly lead to me getting a job. And we laughed and laughed.

After watching approximately 420 hours of soaps that semester, I concluded that the overall lesson of daytime is that you have to make your own happiness, like “Opalite” makes glass and metal look like a precious gem. None of the characters who searched for happiness on any of the soaps found everlasting happiness with someone. They had to find their own way, and then occasionally, they stumbled on love along the way.

All this to give you background on my utter joy in seeing Erika Slezakโ€™s face on my TV again. She is an incredible actress, and I am beyond thrilled that she is on General Hospital. Is it a short run or a long one? I donโ€™t know and I donโ€™t care. I will enjoy her every moment she is there. Having her and Jane Elliot in scenes together is like seeing two queens of neighboring countries come together.

Is โ€œRonnieโ€ a good girl or a bad girl? Time will unravel that mystery, but as of now, we only know that she is the younger sister of “Eldest Daughter” Monica Bard Quartermaine. Is it true that Monica was secretly writing to Ronnie all these months? How did the letters get to the mailbox since Monica was bedridden? Can Yuri confirm whether or not he was running letters to the mailman for Monica, or maybe one of the kids?

 It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me

Does it not strike you as strange that Monica dug up Howard Wentworth, Edwardโ€™s lawyer?

Readers, Edward Q died back in 2012. He was 84 and his lawyer was no spring chicken either. Is there any chance he would still be practicing law in 2025? It reminds me of the Gilmore Girls episode where Emily goes and digs up the repairman who first installed their intercom system because heโ€™s the only person she trusts but heโ€™s like 100. This plot point seems like a stretch to me. Instead, I think that Martin Gray did something to the will to get back at Tracy for causing him to pay alimony to all of his ex-wives.

Why do I think that? How else would Martin have known that Drew wasnโ€™t in the will before the will was read? How would he have gotten his hands on that info? There is no way that Monica only left Tracy a jar of Pickle Lila relish. Although, it was a hilarious call back to General Hospitalโ€™s past plots.

I enjoyed the scenes with Jason, Ned, Olivia and Michael being cordial to Ronnie while Tracyโ€™s ears reddened and her head appeared as if it would explode Daffy Duck style. I am looking forward to more hijinks from these two living soap legends.

Across town, Joss tearfully tells Carly that Vaughn is secretly a WSB agent and was lying to her the whole time they were dating. Carly sweetly comforts Joss, but then it hits her that the revelation meant that Jack knew about Vaughn all along and kept it from her. I donโ€™t think she will be calling him “Honey” anytime soon. Jack reminded Carly that he told her from the get-go there were things that he couldnโ€™t tell her. Carly said back then she could handle it but is now questioning whether or not she can live with being in the dark about things that might concern her kids. Mark my words, the day that Carly discovers Joss is a WSB agent, Jack Brennan will be fully “CANCELLED.” I predict that will be the day that Carly runs back to Sonny for good.

I thought it was “Actually Romantic” when Michael went to see Willow to tell her that he wanted her to see the kids. The tender look in his eyes wrecked me. Heโ€™s still so hurt that she doesnโ€™t love him anyone. Sure, he only offered her supervised visits, but at least heโ€™s willing to allow her back into Amelia and Wileyโ€™s lives. Thatโ€™s a start.

I swear, Rory Gibson and Katelyn MacMullen have such sizzling chemistry together, I can hardly wait for the day Michael and Willow reunite. Sure, she is totally unstable, cultishly attached to Drew, and sneaking around doing awful things, but I think eventually she will be redeemed. I have not yet given up on the Drew-is-Shiloh daydream which could explain everything away. If sheโ€™s under mind control, this all makes sense.

He loves me not, he loves me not

Last week my fellow Scooper Liz said that there are two Drews in her mind and I agreed wholeheartedly. The โ€œrealโ€ Drew, sweet Billy Miller, a heroic, kind, and admirable guy, and the evil Drew, Cameron Mathisonโ€™s version who is just a total jerk and has nothing to offer Willow but “Wood.” I cannot imagine why she would ever go back to him, and the writers cannot write anything that would make that believable to me. Unless she shot Drew and he knows it and is blackmailing her. But then she should be trying to undermine him at every turn.

I will never accept Willow and Drew as a couple. Drew paid off someone in Germany to keep Willow from visiting Michael and also told Wiley that his daddy didnโ€™t want him anymore. Two truly despicable acts that would break trust in any relationship. I canโ€™t fathom her reasons for going back to him.

A bad sign is all good

Willow seems to have the same problem that many in society do now, which is the lack of critical thinking skills. Her mouth keeps saying that she loves her kids more than anything, but her actions are continually opposite of that. But today, I canโ€™t decide. Did Willow actually shoot Drew, or did Michael plant Edward Quartermaineโ€™s gun at Elizabethโ€™s house to frame her?

I like the bond that is forming between Michael and his new Great Aunt Ronnie. Maybe when she kicks everyone out of her house (Monica gave it to her) she will let the relatives who are kind to her stay. I canโ€™t imagine an empty Q house again. It took us so long to refill it.

Sonny manipulated ADA Turner to meet with him under the guise of a meeting with Diane. Where is Carolyn Hennesy, anyway? I miss her face and her unbearably cute hairstyles. Diane is as unlucky in love as “Elizabeth Taylor.” It never seems her love affairs last forever.  I donโ€™t even know who Diane is dating these days since Robert left town with Holly and Max is nowhere to be found. I think after Carly dumps Jack, Diane might give him a whirl.

Readers, do you have a General Hospital “Wi$h Li$t?” On mine right now is Gio reuniting with Dante and Brook Lynn, Maxie waking up from her coma and seeing Nathan, Elizabeth getting a real love interest, Nikolas Cassadine being released from prison and coming home in any version I can get him, Valentin and Anna being reunited, seeing Carly explode at Jason, Joss, Britt and Jack when Jossโ€™ status as an agent is revealed, and Ric getting untied and allowed to pee.

Don’t blame me

Police Commissioner Devane is up to her eyeballs in suspects for Drewโ€™s shooting. Everyone on her (almost) murder board has motive, means and opportunity. Many of the suspects have sketchy alibis. But after the search warrant debacle at the Qโ€™s house, Anna made sure her next search warrant was in order as she searched Elizabethโ€™s house, specifically Willowโ€™s room. Anna walked about with something that was gun shaped, so we can assume Edwardโ€™s gun was found. But why was it there?

Readers, would Michael be so cold as to frame Willow for Drewโ€™s shooting? Willow did scare Daisy and Sasha out of town by terrorizing them, and Willow did say she didnโ€™t care if Drew framed Michael for a crime he didnโ€™t commit, so I can see why Michael would want to pay her back in kind, but the truth is, the gun might be there because Willow actually did it. Michael seemed so sincere when he offered her supervised visitation. Was he? Will he be shocked when he discovers Willow is in trouble? Thatโ€™s when we will know.

In the meantime, Anna has her work cut out for her on General Hospital, with multiple cagey suspects to question, alibis to test, perjury charges to bring, and a compromised ADA who knows too much about to testify and more. But Anna Devane will soldier on, because she and her portrayer Finola Hughes know all about “The Life of a Showgirl.

Will Trina have a little brother or sister, or a little ยฝ brother or sister? Will the writers go super soapy and have Jordan and Curtis hook up and her get pregnant, too? Is Lucas ever going to call Brad and tell him about Britt so Brad can run Marco out of town? Will Josslyn and Vaughn be able to keep their distance from one another, or will they end up at the Five Poppies for a secret rendezvous? Is Jason going to once again tell Brennan to stop being a wuss? Will Anna and Dante have to make a second murder board when someone else eventually tries to shoot Drew?

Are you going to check out Dan J Kroll’s latest Beyond The Gates commentary? This week’s column is called “Logic has left the building and feelings are running the show).”

Only tomorrow knows dear readers, and I will tune in tomorrow as long as there are tomorrows.

    So much of “Ronnies” story doesn’t add up. She says that she showed up in Port Charles at the age of 16 to hopefully live with Monica, but Monica was already married to Dr. Jeff Webber. In fact, Monica was already a doctor at that time so there has to be at least a ten year age gap between the sisters. This flies against a lot of history. Is this just sloppy writing or something else? Letters? In this day and age? No phone calls, texts ? Did they “zoom”? Why didn’t Monica ever invite her to visit?
    Several times Ronnie has spoken about when Monica was a “little girl”. With at least a ten year age gap between them, Ronnie would not have been born yet or at best she would have been a toddler when Monica was a little girl.
    Ronnie is also a bit too anti-Tracy. Monica and Tracy had grown close the last few years. I can’t imagine that Monica would have said unkind things about Tracy in her letters.. When Ronnie talks to Tracy she sounds like Marty, which makes me even more suspicious that he has a role in Ronnies’ appearance and the will.

      I couldn’t agree more. There is definitely something shady going on here!

    Newsflash to Carly. The FBI didn’t get their hooks into Jason because of Britt. It was because of you!!!

    Anna said that the gun they were looking for was a revolver which was registered to Edward. We saw that gun when Drew was shot and it was not a revolver.

    Dr. Gannon needs to keep his nose out of other peoples business.

    How can Brennan threaten Britt with arrest due to her research? First of all, he has no idea what was going on at the Five Poppies and doing research is not a criminal act. Just once when Brennan threatens to lock someone away for violating “international law”, I’d like that person to reply, “what international law would that be?”. International law apllies to “nation states” and organizations. It does not appply to individuals. It’s like when he threatened Anna with treason if she told Carly that Joss was a WSB agent. Really? The WSB has offices in PC and everyone seems to know where they are. One could just sit outside and see who goes in and out of those offices and be able to figure out if someone was working for the WSB. Joss told Carly thart is how she figured out that Vaughn was an agent.

    • Tamilu

      Yes, the holes in some of this logic are making it look like Swiss Cheese! LOL

    • SFan

      I think Carly meant that if Britt hadn’t asked him to go to Greece to save her mother, Jason never would have been there. Therefore, the FBI wouldn’t have captured him, forced him onto a plane straight to Quantico and let everyone think he was dead.

    Next, on “When Ronnie Bard Goes A Bob Bob Bobbin’ Along!”
    Ya know, the other day someone mentioned that when Monica’s Baby Sister talks, she’s like a Bobble Head Doll.
    I noticed that and now I can’t unsee it.
    There’s Ronnie, standing in the Q Doorway talking to Ned, head bobbing away.
    No idea what anyone was saying, but who cares?? Blah Blah Reading of the Will Blah Blah.
    Bob Bob Bob Shake Shake Shake..
    Maybe she can’t help it, but it’s distracting.
    ~~~~
    I’m hoping Britt mellows out a bit.
    I did appreciate her correcting herself when she referred to “Ben…I mean Rocco” and didn’t say it sarcastically.
    Shows me there’s hope.
    ~~~
    Next, on “Who’s Your Daddy?”
    Oh Look! Porthole’s Dizzy!!
    We all know what that means!!
    Another Wee One will make an Appearance Early 2026, then will Inexplicably Disappear for Weeks at a Time, but not before the whole Custody Drama/Baby Switch, Yada Yada Ya…
    Say, where’s Ace? did Baby Face Finster take off to Atlantic City?
    Where’s Bailey Lu?
    Is she joining Trina and Joss at PCU yet?
    And Where the Heck is Leo???
    He’s been “On His Way Home From School…” for several weeks now!
    ~~~
    So “Ronnie” is from Durham, New York?
    Or North Carolina?
    I grew up in Greenville, NY in the Catskill Mountains for the first nine years of my life.
    There’s a Durham Right next door.
    Greene County.
    Just saying.
    Tracy getting the Pickle Lila was Predictable, as was “Ronnie” getting the Estate.
    We KNEW that’s where they were going with this, but I don’t buy it for a minute.
    It was pretty funny they got the ::Wrong:: Address on the Search Warrant.
    I noticed Turner said “65 Harborview” on her phone call at Volcano’s Gym, and I knew the Q’s was 66.
    Or was it 69?
    ~~~~
    Can someone just kill Congressman Jazz Hands already?
    I don’t care who.
    Anybody.
    Maybe Britt will kill him, and Endear Herself to Everyone in Port Chuck, especially Tracy.
    I’d LOVE to see Tracy and the Britch In Cahoots.
    ~~~
    ::Whew::
    About Time Gio Kissed the Girl (again).
    Gio and the Anti-Emma do make a Cute Couple.
    Can we keep them for a while without someone getting killed?
    Gio should definitely move in with Sonny, though.
    Anna’s Apartment is too stuffy.
    And Donna is likely to talk Gio into picking up a New Violin.
    I’m sure Grandpa Sonny would foot the Bill no problem.
    ~~
    What I didn’t need to see was Joss and NotJagger Jingleheimer II the Sequel (Vaughn) Swapping Spit on Pier 54.
    She really looks like she’s making out with her Big Brother or something.
    Gross.
    Does she even know his First Name?
    “S” is all we got from the Great Anna DeVane a few months back.
    ~~~
    Hey I was watching an old episode of GH on YouTube.
    The Famous AJ/Jason Accident, several episodes spliced into one.
    I’d post the link but I’m sure it would get Sent to the Cornfield.
    Believe it or not, I’ve never seen those episodes.
    You know what I noticed?
    Everyone at GH had a STETHOSCOPE!!!
    At least the Medical Staff were wearing them around their necks.
    Bobbie took hers off when she was talking to Ned.
    Tony actually sounded like a Doctor when he spoke.
    Fancy That.
    And all that Hair!!!
    Everyone had So Much Hair.
    Wally Kurth looked like a New Wave Ken Doll.
    Gotta love the 90’s!
    ~~~
    Back to 2025…
    And still Ronnie’s Head goes BobBobBobbin’ Along.
    I KNEW Ronnie gonna say, “It’s MY House! Monica Gave It To Me!”
    Nice.
    Ya think she’ll kick everyone out?
    Wouldn’t that be a Hoot.
    ~~~
    So now Congressman Jazz Hands tells Jordan that he believes Curtis is the shooter.
    Really?
    An Ex-Cop?
    If Curtis shot you, Dude, You’d be Dead Dead Dead.
    It was Totally Willow.
    She pretty much confessed to Liz after her conversation with Mikey.
    And, now Anna’s got Edward’s Gun.

      The missing kids thing is driving me nuts. Where are all the children of Port Charles? We had nu Charlotte for two days, then poof. Cameron never comes home from college. Jake and Aiden are never home when Liz is. If only Scout could visit Grandma Alexis maybe she would find Grandpa Ric chained up in the basement. Amelia will be 12 before we see her again.

      • Missez Premise

        Seriously, we haven’t seen Ace in months!!
        The kid’s gonna be expecting his Inheritance before Slic (Stinky) Ric gets out of Alexis’s Dungeon!
        Leo’s been on his way home from school since September.
        Jake? Ya think Jason would at least be Facetiming with his son.
        I’d love for Cam to come home just in time to see Joss making out on the Pier with NotJagger Jingleheimer II the Sequel.
        Blecch.

  4. Humor Me

    Dear Tamilu – I love this column! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
    I am of the opinion that Martin faccillitated the will shake up (is Edward laughing wherever he is?). I want to believe that Dear Ronnie is an innocent. Time will tell.

    MIchael is playing a pshychological game with Willow – he knows something, or saw something, and this offer may be too little too late give what Anna had in her hands at the end of Friday’s eppy. Do I want to believe Willow shot Drew? It is entirely possible given her actions from the end of the custody hearing forward. I still think Sidwell is pulling the strings to shake up Sonny – and that is entirely possible also.

    and yes, young love in the afternoon – Gio was hit with one of Leo’s great grandmothers sicilian thunderbolts the moment he met Emma at rice Plaza. That kiss as been a long time coming.

    Enjoy this coming week – it will be interesting.

  5. Tamilu

    Thank you so much for the kind words and for reading! It would be interesting if Willow did it but didn’t remember, like she has a second personality or something. I mean, let’s go ultra soapy and give her a DID storyline. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Kam

    I really like Ronnie and I believe she is actually a good person. However, I do believe that her getting the house in Monica’s will was fabricated by Martin, as was the part about Tracy inheriting the relish. That man will do anything to get back at Tracy.

    I’m not sure if Michael actually planted the evidence to frame Willow, or if the writers just want us to believe that. I want to say that I don’t believe Michael would go that far, but he has been pushed pretty far by both Willow and Drew.
