General Hospital Commentary: Port Chuckles is grieving

General Hospital Commentary: Port Chuckles is grieving

Things are heating up on General Hospital as Willow goes to trial and Valentin hides out in Carly’s attic. Has Jack gone too far in trying to get his hands on Faison’s cold fusion project? Will sparks fly as Valentin and Carly work together to take down Jack? It’s time for another exciting General Hospital commentary for the week ending December 19, 2025.

My dearest readers, I couldn’t start this week’s General Hospital column without mentioning the saddest soap news ever. Tony Geary, the most legendary and revered talent of all soapdom has passed away. What a shock! It was unexpected and gut-wrenching. I have cried so many tears this week.

I know that everyone who watched in the early days of Luke and Laura has shed tears this week. My heart breaks for his precious husband Claudio Gama. I have followed their happy life in Amsterdam on social media, and they seemed so happy together! If my heart is this broken over his death — and I never even met him — I can’t imagine what Claudio and Tony’s extended family are feeling. I hope it helps them to know how many of us are sending our love to them and remembering Tony’s magnificent body of work.

Liz and I will write more about this in the coming weeks when she and I share our Best and Worst of General Hospital for 2025, but I had to acknowledge this sad loss before I could talk about this week’s show.

The cast and crew of General Hospital have suffered so many losses. It’s miraculous that they keep getting up every day and coming in to do such incredible work. Any crying scenes these days would be much more accessible because their tears must be so close to the surface right now. It’s probably easier for them to cry than not cry at this point.

Although Tony left General Hospital ten years ago, I know we all hoped someday he’d come back. Now those hopes lay at the bottom of an ocean of tears. I hope that General Hospital will find a way to do an entire show of clips and memories. Without Luke and Laura, I doubt General Hospital would still be on television. It would have been cancelled like so many others were. Tony and Genie Francis saved the show, and Genie is still there, a rock-solid icon still turning in legendary performances. My heart breaks for her right now.

I hope the General Hospital team is making a stand-alone Luke episode as we speak.

Since Charlotte is trying to maneuver life with her own anti-hero dad, I’d love to see Lulu share stories about Luke with her daughter. It would be the perfect opening. Lulu actually does know what Charlotte is going through because she had a dad who lived life on the run for a long time and skirted both sides of the law. I never understand why the writers don’t have Lulu share that with her daughter. Now is the time!

Which brings us to this week

Charlotte was honest with Lulu and told her mother that if Valentin shows up and asks her to go, she will go. Even though that hurts Lulu’s heart, she has seen the bond between Charlotte and her papa (even though Charlotte’s too grown up to call him that anymore) The scenes with Lulu (Alexa Havins) and Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) were so raw and real. I was hesitant to love Bluesy in the role because I loved the original Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez) so much, but I couldn’t resist Bluesy’s portrayal of our beautiful Charlotte.

Having Valentin back in Port Charles makes me giddy. I love him and I didn’t know how much I would love the chemistry between Valentin and Carly, but I can’t get enough of their scenes. Laura Wright and James Patrick Stuart just bounce off of each other so well. Watching international fugitive Valentin snub Carly’s coffee and demand French press was chef’s kiss.

I can’t imagine how we could make a romance work between them but if I were a writer for General Hospital, I would be twisting everyone’s disbelief into a pretzel to make it happen. Those looks Valentin and Carly shot each other during Friday’s episode, when Valentin needed convincing that Carly was committed to their plan, was pure *sizzle*. I want to see them swipe that moss off the counter and have a ho-ho-holiday fling.

And sure, I know, Valentin and Anna also have mad chemistry, but she has decided that she can’t handle his criminal tendencies. But Carly can totally roll with bad boys. I love that about her.

Carly’s revenge

Laura Wright is a master. Carly smiles in Jack’s face, kisses him so sweetly and behind his back looks like she wants to vomit. Her disdain for the man who put her daughter in harm’s way is palpable. One of our readers brought up an excellent point. Is the necklace that Jack gave Carly bugged? Is he listening to her and Valentin plot against him day by day? Will he turn the tables on them and double cross their double cross?

If only Carly and Joss could talk openly.  Joss confessed to Jason that she is having second thoughts about being in the WSB after Vaughn disappeared, as the person she felt she could trust with her life has vanished. Joss is now openly defying Jack and sharing info with Jason because she knows she can trust him more than she can trust Jack.

If Carly and Valentin are successful in taking down Jack, who could possibly take over the WSB? Anna? Valentin? Someone new?

Of course, before Anna can do anything else, she has to kick Pascal’s ass and get out of that comfortably furnished dungeon. I mean, the dude only brought her half a cheese sandwich for lunch! Maybe Anna can crack him over the head with P.K. Sinclair’s book! When she opened the package and I saw what was inside, I squealed! Oh my gosh, I had not thought about Faison’s alias in ages! It’s been years since I heard that name!

Please Soap Santa, bring me creepy Faison for Christmas. He’s like the Phantom of the (Soap) Opera. A little scary, a little sexy and completely mesmerizing. I have tuned in every day since Anna was kidnapped hoping to see Anders Hove on my screen.

General Hospital Spoiler alert!

Skip the next section if you don’t want to read a tantalizing rumor. If you do proceed, remember to take any rumors and spoilers with a grain of salt. You’ve been warned.

I just read an incredible rumor that Tony Geary and Anders Hove filmed one final scene for General Hospital before Tony passed away. I hope that rumor is true. It would be a perfect Christmas gift for General Hospital fans. If Faison is back, what could he be after — other than his lifelong goal of getting Anna? And whose brain is in the jar if it’s not his? I genuinely think it’s someone toying with Anna. I don’t think Faison would have the willpower to stay away from Anna this long if he had her caged up. He would definitely have made an appearance by now.

Another wish I have for Soap Santa is to slap some sense into Chase. Does Chase not remember that Willow cheated on him with Michael while they were married and he was dying? Because I do. Chase saying how sweet and innocent Willow is when she did the exact same thing to Chase that she did to Michael is infuriating.

Chase knows for a fact that Willow has snuck into the Q house multiple times. ADA Turner should call him to the stand and make him testify to it. He saw her in the house while Daisy was being moved, he has seen her sneak in or try to sneak in multiple times. Yet he says nothing. The Q family needs to put up an electric fence that zaps her when she crosses the lawn and then explain the burn marks.

Speaking of the Quartermaines. There are some who say, “Drew has as much right to Tracy’s heirlooms as anyone else.” You are wrong. Period. Sure, Drew has Alan’s DNA, but unlike Jason, Drew did not grow up in the Q household, and he never even met Alan, Edward, or Lila, so the family heirlooms mean nothing to him. He was Alan’s biological son, not Monica’s, and she purposely left him nothing. As Willie Wonka says to bad children, “You get nothing! You lose!” Drew better give Tracy her stuff back.

I can hardly wait until Tracy finds out that Drew left Ned on the sidewalk to die after his heart attack. I hope Olivia tells Tracy everything.

I want to have a word with Selina Woo to see if she fired the sharpshooter who missed when he shot Drew. If that’s even who shot him. This reveal is taking forever! Was it Michael? Willow? Alexis? Scout? Curtis? Portia? Sidwell? I mean, is there anyone in Port Charles other than Willow who doesn’t hate Drew? Even if the writers want to keep the storyline going, can they at least let *us* in on who shot Drew?

If there is anyone worse than Chase at reading Willow, it’s Nina justifying every rotten thing that Willow does. Nina would send anyone to prison, guilty or not, if it meant getting Willow off the hook. Some people say, “Any parent would do that for their child.” But would they really? I would like to think that some parents would say, “Honey, I love you, but you need to turn yourself in. I’ll come visit you in prison every week, but you have to take responsibility for what you did.”

The things we do for love

And the thing is, twenty years ago I would have said the total opposite. I would have said yes, cover for your kid under any circumstance. But then you live through the years, and you see the damage a mentally unstable person can do to their own families, like we all witnessed recently in the news.  Then you must reconsider your position and say, “No, that child needed more help than the family could offer. As hard as it may have been, they probably should have been institutionalized.” It’s a hard pill to swallow, no doubt. I have judged friends and family for kicking their unstable kids out under similar circumstances. Now I need to apologize to them.

If Nina really loved Willow, she would not work so hard to bury the evidence against her.

Which brings me to Acting-ADA Turner. So, the police didn’t get copies of the footage? In this day and age when it would take like 4 seconds to make a copy. 🙄 Someone needs to hire Spinelli to restore it. If anyone could do it, he can. Meanwhile, it was clever of Turner to ask Kristina about Dawn of Day and Willow’s weird past. Knowing that Willow was a former cult member trained in weaponry will give the jury pause.

I love Katelyn MacMullen and she’s doing excellent work, but I genuinely hope she is not Drew’s shooter. Even though she secretly loathes him and only married him to look innocent, I don’t want her to be a killer. For all we know, it might have been Jacinda, or her pimp, or a rogue goon of Ms. Wu, or even Danny because Drew wouldn’t let him see his sister. But I do hope it’s someone we don’t love.

Nina doing Jack’s bidding

In Nina’s quest to exonerate Willow, she is doing Jack’s bidding by trying to get Charlotte to open up about Valentin. When Charlotte started to confess to Nina about hearing from Valentin, Nina shut her down, so Nina wouldn’t have to tell Jack what Charlotte had confided. Back when Michelle Stafford played Nina, Valentin and Nina were my “it” couple, but after Stafford left, the writers seemed to lose interest in the pairing. But I think Nina still has some level of loyalty to Valentin and wouldn’t want to hurt Charlotte, even to save Willow.

I know there is mixed response to this next development, but I for one am thrilled to have Brad Cooper back in town. Yes, yes, he does bring out the worst in Britt, and they are terrible influences on one another, but hey, my best friend and I have the same dynamic and that’s what makes our friendship so much FUN.

It’s nice to have at least one person in your life you can speak to without a filter. Brad and Britt are so much fun to watch. I really hope they do watch the Oscars together and have an entire stand-alone episode of the two of them mocking the ceremony.  Hopefully, there’s YouTube in the land of soaps.

But they can’t get into too much trouble as they are both broke. Brad can’t even blackmail Portia anymore because her secret is out. Well, at least one of her secrets. Here’s hoping he finds out that she cheated with Isaiah and uses that threat as his next money maker.

Second chances

Lucas signed a letter for Britt to get her medical license back and I hope she gets it. Maybe she can hire Alexis as her attorney since Alexis knows what it’s like. I was happy to hear Alexis tell Drew that she lost her license once and wasn’t going to lose it again, especially because of him. But apparently, she was willing to lose it over locking Ric in her basement. Bygones.

This week, General Hospital gave us a healthy dose of heartwarming scenes. First up, Gio and Dante agreeing to make nice for Rocco’s sake. Our hope of course is that while they are faking it until they make it, they will actually grow closer and get to appreciate one another as father and son.  Giovanni Mazza was a great addition to the cast this year, as was his girlfriend Emma, played by Braedyn Bruner. I always get anxious when we get wonderful young actors on General Hospital because they get plucked away. (I’m looking at you, Nicholas Alexander Chavez)

Dom Zamprogna and Gio have wonderful chemistry and here’s hoping their family is on the path to wholeness by the new year. Finn Carr as Rocco has such a sweetness and vulnerability to him, you can’t help but root for Rocco and understand everyone’s inclination to protect him.

A friend in need

Another sweet scene this week was between Lulu and Nathan. Have I mentioned how happy I am that Ryan Paevey is back? I just love him. I’ll watch him on General Hospital, Hallmark or anything else he does. He and Alexa Havins have a natural and easy rhythm together. They both love Maxie and they have both experienced waking up and losing years of their life. They understand one another. I worry about the two of them developing romantic feelings for one another just as Maxie is about to come home.

Of course, when Lulu came back at the end of last year, we thought she and Dante would have reunited by now. But no, the writers won’t let us have nice things. Shall we list all the storylines that are taking too long to get to the climax? Oh wait, no. Liz and I have the Best and Worst of General Hospital 2025 columns coming up. Let’s save it for then!

Will Carly get matching Christmas jammies for her and Valentin since he will definitely still be in her attic for the holidays? Will Brad and Britt dine and dash again after they get out of jail since they have Champagne taste, no morals, and zero cash?

Is Outback going to help her lab dog pals get adopted for Christmas? Will Drew end up being Shiloh after all and snap when people disparage Dawn of Day? Will Martin convince Drew to give Tracy her toys back?

Is Portia going to be able to keep up the lie about her pretend friend caring for her before Curtis finds her in the Love Shack with Isaiah? Will we find out who was eavesdropping on Tracy and Michael when she agreed to lie for him in court?

Finally, will you check out Dan J Kroll’s latest Beyond the Gates commentary? It may be a holly, jolly time of year, but it’s more like a Blue Christmas for the residents of Fairmont Crest.

Only tomorrow knows, dear readers, and I will tune in tomorrow as long as there are tomorrows.

    Merry Christmas to you and yours!
    The show is doing a great job of convincing me that Willow is Drew’s shooter. KMacM’s non verbal cues is also helping in that regrad. And Yes, I too want Chase on the stand to admit how many times Willow has been found in the Q manse to show that she could get the gun, and be Sasha’s stalker at the same time. And they need to ask her what her ring tone is…..

    It is sad – horribly sad – when someone passes unexpectedly. I hope Claudio and family get the answers they deserve. I hope the show does more than the “In Memorium” card at the close – I hope they have the players talk about AG the person, and not just clips of his best moments. That would mean more to this viewer at this time. I have YouTube for clips. We lost a person of immense talent.

    So here’s to a fabulous Christmas sit down dinner at the Q’s with the entire extended family and hanger-oners. The characters deserve it. Happy Holidaze.

    Well, Folks, it’s been a Lousy Year for Soap Fans.
    First of all, my Heart is Broken at the loss of Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle.
    The Princess Bride is one of the Most Brilliant Films of All Times.
    And Tony Geary.
    I’m sad but not surprised, the way things have been going.
    How Ironic that the News of TG’s Demise appears the same day Tracy returns to GH.
    ::Sigh::
    Why can’t we Have Nice Things?
    ~~~
    Droopy Dawg Brennan and Agent Barbie.
    Not Nice Things.
    I did, however, enjoy watching Val traipse through Carly’s Kitchen, right past the Bowl O Moss, rummaging through her Cabinets.
    If that Bowl O Moss could talk, boy.
    I also love his Choice of Cereal.
    ~~~
    So we’re finally getting back to the Reason Ned had a Heart Attack (other than his Poor Eating Habits).
    EwDrew Stealing Tracy’s Tchotchkes.
    Omg, I typed that BEFORE BLQ called them “Tchotchkes” and Tracy rebukes the term.
    Hey, half my Family (my Husband’s side) is Jewish.
    I LOVE “Tchotchkes”!
    I also love Tracy.
    Who I Do Not Like One Bit?
    Correct.
    And why is Ebeneezer Drew hobbling around on that Flimsy Cane like an Idiot??

    If he really needs a Cain, oops I mean Cane, he surely can afford a sturdier, taller one.
    I still love that scene at the Brown Dog where Jason ::Kicked:: the cane out from under Drew and he landed on his face.
    We need more scenes like that.

    I really hope Carly and Val take Droopy Dawg Brennan down.
    He’s another one I can’t stand right now.

    ~~~
    First of all what is wrong with Liz?
    Is she acting like a Total Idiot towards Britt because she’s jealous or something?
    Why are the writers doing this to her? She’s just being an awful person.
    Oh boy Brad’s back in town!
    I also really wish the writers would stop making Britt be such an Jerk.
    The scene at the Restaurant where Lucy and Ethel (Britt and Brad) realize they’re both broke was SO Predictable.
    Stupid Stuff like that makes My Brain Hurt.
    And what’s with Tiny Trina’s outfit?
    Was she planning on playing Football after Court?
    Just WHY weren’t the Time Stamp Dated Traffic Camera Stills Admissible after the Actual Footage “Mysteriously” disappeared?
    And WHY didn’t Dante (The Acting Police Commissioner) make sure there were backups of that footage?
    Oh, right, because The Writers Hate Us and We Can’t Have Nice Things.
    Further Proof of This:
    Gannon and Porthole playing CheckerChess in the Cabin that Lucky Gave Him.
    Don’t ask me what they were talking about because My Brain was Elsewhere.
    I just cannot listen to their Insipid Drivel.
    Can someone PLEASE shoot Drew Properly?
    Wouldn’t that be a Most Excellent Christmas Present?
      I love the Princess Bride, and I think This is Spinal Tap was just as brilliant. These go to 11 will never not be funny. I’m a sucker for satire though. Interestingly, the Goldman abridged book the Princess Bride is a biting satire and much more cynical than the movie. I’m not sure if the studio wanted something more optimistic or if the movie is a reflection of the man who brought it to the screen and his big heart. Last weekend was terrible, a there are no words day three times over
      Hearing the news about Tony Geary heaped on more sadness on Monday. He changed daytime as much as anyone ever did. I don’t know that antiheroes like Sonny and Jason would exist without him. And what a wit he was. I’m glad he got some happy years in Amsterdam with Claudio after he left the show.
  3. Ruthie
    At the cabin, Isaiah got about 30 seconds of character development when he had a memory of his father. Suddenly, he seemed like he could be an interesting actor/character again. Please write a better story for him and give him that chance to be the actor he probably is.
  4. JDF
    Faisons’ final project. Brennan wants the technology but he doesn’t even know what it is. I’ve never been a Lulu fan but it was great when she stood up to Brennan and told him that he has no jurisdiction in her house. It is clear that the WSB is not a U.S. government agency, they get their funding from several governments, including the U.S. , so when Brennan threatens someone with treason or mentions “national security”, I always think treason against who and whose national security? The U.S. doesn’t recognize international law and Americans are not subject to international law on American soil. Every body should start giving Brennan the Lulu treatment.
    I don’t understand all the fuss about the Quartermain heirlooms. Drew hijacked them, stole them! Just have Chase go and arrest Drew for grand larceny. End of story.
    Willows’ trial starts. It is the first day in court, but somehow the jury has already been selected. Alexis should hope that Drew perjures himself and say that Michael shot him. As an officer of the court Alexis would be obligated to report that he is perjuring himself and he’d go to jail. Then he couldn’t keep anyone away from Scout.
    If Michael were going to shoot Drew, I think he would be smart enough NOT to park by Drews’ house.
    Nina has become loathsome. She’s right up their with Drew. She keeps saying that “my daughter” is innocent, but if she really believed that she wouldn’t have made up a false alibi in the first place.
  5. Kam
    I also believe that the necklace Brennan got Carly is either a tracker or a bug. I think it’s more likely a tracker since he just wants to protect her. At this point he doesn’t suspect her of anything.
    I always found it weird that people so easily bought Anna went on assignment with the WSB. Her last connection to the WSB died out after she was painted as a traitor by them so publicly. It kind of made it seem like there was no going back to the company after that. But I guess they go back and forth with these high government agencies and their agents.
    Drew’s testimony at the trial revealed something very interesting. He said that after he got home and made himself a drink, he didn’t receive or make any calls. ADA Turner said that she knows that to be true because they have his phone records. Yet Trina and Kai heard a phone ringing to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, which Kai knows is the ringtone that Drew has for Scout. The person who shot Drew clearly received a phone call with that ringtone, which could support the theory that it was Willow, as she may have the same ringtone for Scout. It also could have been Alexis. She doesn’t actually have an alibi for that night. She lied about it being Ava and Kristina, who admitted amongst themselves that she came in from the back of the house, not knowing where she was coming from.
    It’s interesting how after Nina found out that Nelle was her daughter, she stated that she believed that if Nelle had grown up with her and had a mother’s love, she wouldn’t have turned out as bad as she did. While she didn’t get to raise Willow either, she now has a place in Willow’s life and she doesn’t seem to be doing anything to prevent Willow’s bad behavior. She just enables it, does what she can to cover up or protect Willow from the consequences of her actions.
    • Kathie
      This is a good point about Nina. And it’s not just Willow. She didn’t want to hold Charlotte accountable for actions either when she was her stepmother. That’s why her relationship with Willow started off so badly. Sad to say the best chance those girls had was to be raised by Silas with Nina still in the coma
      I also think Nina thinks if someone had loved Nelle as an adult, she could have been turned around. Also not true. Nelle was met with kindness from both Carly and Michael at different times, and that meant nothing to her. She had an agenda and nothing could deter her from it.
      Interesting point about Alexis and the ringtone. But I keep coming back to this with anyone who isn’t Willow or Michael—it is extremely unlikely Alexis would plant the gun in Willow’s room.
      One concern I have: twinkle twinkle is not a particularly unique song, and there is only one person we 100% know got a phone call they didn’t answer. That would be Michael when Wiley called him.
      I really don’t want Michael to be the shooter, and it would be out of character for him. So I hope that’s not where they’re going with this. Unlike Tamilu, I’m A-OK with Willow being the shooter. If it was her phone, I’m good with that. It is unfortunate Kai and Trina chose to keep their presence at Drew’s a secret because that ringtone may be key to the truth
      Another thing we can say now that we know it wasn’t Drew’s phone ringing: the shooter was not Portia or Curtis who wouldn’t have that ringtone. Or a hitman sent by Selina or Sidwell. Which we kind of already knew because a professional would have finished Drew off with the second shot
      • Kam
        While I do not believe that Michael shot Drew, I do believe it is very likely that he planted the gun in Willow’s room at Elizabeth’s house.
  6. Cheryl
    I would love to see GH find “Luke’s” body after all these years and have a wonderful funeral for him. What a tribute it would be to Tony Geary.
  7. Kathie
    I’m pretty sure they found Luke’s “remains” already. I vaguely remember DNA testing. Otherwise, no one would have believed he was dead
    But it wouldn’t be hard to justify another memorial since Lulu was in a coma during the last one. The show also has to deal with Tristan Rogers’ and probably Denise Alexander’s passings. Attending either of those memorials could trigger a need in Lulu for a proper goodbye to her father.
