General Hospital Commentary: Crazy Eyes

It was an eventful week as Willow’s illusions about Drew were finally shattered. Did Michael make the right call to keep Willow away from the children? Will Jason foil Josslyn and Vaughn’s cover when he tracked down Britt at the Five Poppies? It’s time to discuss all the soapy goodness in an al-new General Hospital commentary for the week ending August 01, 2025.

Dearest readers, the payoff we have waited for has finally arrived! It did not disappoint. Right before the poorly attended wedding of Drew and Willow, Curtis arrived and told Willow the ugly truth about Drew and Ninaโ€™s affair. In a shocking turn of events, Willow actually believed him.

Willow looked like a porcelain doll walking down the aisle, but she had crazy eyes and an underlying madness bubbling up like lava from a volcano about to blow. How she kept the lid on it while Drew said his vows I’ll never know.

So many people in Willowโ€™s life warned her about Drew for months, but she rejected their warnings without even considering them. From Willowโ€™s perspective, Curtis had no agenda. He just wanted the truth to come out before she married Drew. And that truth hit Willow like a tidal wave, knocking her over and leaving her broken and breathless.

The Daytime Emmy goes to General Hospital’s Kately MacMullen

Katelyn MacMullen should handily win next yearโ€™s Daytime Emmy with the powerhouse performances she has been turning in. My lord this woman can act! She has gone from innocent to evil, from deceived to deceiver, from trembling and unhinged, to calm and composed. Willowโ€™s emotional rollercoaster has taken us all on a ride, and it has been thrilling as a viewer.

For months we have collectively loathed Drew, so watching Willow drop his hand mid-wedding vows, and tear into him publicly was remarkably satisfying as a viewer.

Loser Drew

I am so glad Drew lost. Glad he didnโ€™t get his way, glad he was humiliated, glad Willow is done with him. Glad Willow knows he *did* let Wiley overhear him say that Michael didnโ€™t want him. And I’m especially glad Willow knows that Drew is the one who kept her from seeing Michael in the German burn clinic. I couldnโ€™t believe how happy it made me!

I think part of that joy comes from living in a word where evil and manipulative people rarely face the consequences of their actions. Seeing a bad person actually pay for their sins was fulfilling to my soul.

I am also glad that Nina got her turn to attack Drew. Watching the incredible Cynthia Watros take her turn roaring like a lioness at Drew was delightful. For a long time, I hated Nina — after the Sonny/Nixon Falls storyline — but presently, I donโ€™t hate her.

While I do wish Nina told Willow about Drew ages ago, I also know the fear a parent has of alienating their adult children. Sometimes itโ€™s a delicate balance to keep your mouth shut when you see your kid walking into trouble. Doubting their choices can be seen as being unsupportive and adult children can choose to walk away from you โ€“ so sometimes you keep your mouth shut even when you have very strong opinions about their careless decisions. So, on that note, I feel for Nina.

The friendship of Nina and Ava is one of my favorites, two supremely flawed women who show one another the very worst of themselves and still find support. I mention Ava just because Ava and Ric were the comic relief of the wedding! The looks they had on their faces while the chaos was swirling and Ava giving Ric a โ€œSHH!โ€ when he tried to whisper to her because she didnโ€™t want to miss a single word of the juicy blowup happening right before her eyes. So funny.

A few other notable moments

Tracy asking Drew, โ€œHave you misplaced your bride already? How very careless of you!โ€

Carly pulling Willow over to a mirror and making her look at Willow’s wild mascara-stained eyes.

Alexis telling Kristina about Nina and Drewโ€™s fling and Alexis’ shock because Alexis thought Nina and Drew hated each other. Kristina suggested, โ€œSometimes thatโ€™s a kinkโ€ Alexis’ reaction was hilarious. She went pale. LOL

Martin and Drew climbing over the Quartermaine hedges to get onto the property and Yuri showing up as a bouncer.

I’m torn about Ric and Ava. I really like them together, but heaven help me, I still feel for Ric and his undying love for Elizabeth. I mean sure, the last time they were married he held Carly hostage in a panic room and tried to steal Carly’s baby, but, you know, heโ€™s more mature now? Ha.

Ric told Willow he would represent her pro bono, but in truth, Nina is footing the bill. It makes him look like a hero to Liz, but she will eventually find out.

On a side note, I just wanted to give a shout out the adorable Viron Weaver (Wiley Corinthos) who was magnificent in his scenes this week as Carly and Michael talked to Wiley about Willow marrying his Uncle Drew. He has gone from being a cute kid in the background of scenes to a fine little actor. I know Wiley’s family isnโ€™t done with the drama yet, so I suspect Viron will have more chances to shine in the next few months.

I am also enjoying the plot twist of Liz and Willow living together right now. Liz is fresh off her breakup with Lucky, and Willow is at rock bottom. I think putting the two of them together was genius. There is a lot of potential there for the two of them to talk through their complicated romantic histories and feelings of failure and regret. Sisterhood for the win.

Liz can tell Willow about that time Liz slept with her brother-in-law, Nikolas Cassadine. Ha. No judgement though. Who could have resisted Tyler Christopher?

But honestly, Willow probably needs a big dose of Aunt Lieslโ€™s tough love. Having Kathleen Gati back on canvas is like Christmas in July. Her presence makes every scene she is in better, bolder and a little sudsier โ€“ she is a perfect soap character, and I am giddy to have her back.

I canโ€™t decide, does Dr. O know Britt is alive, or is she in the dark about her daughter’s fate? The way Liesl spoke to Jason had me questioning if she knew Britt was alive. Is she merely grieving because she canโ€™t get in touch with Britt, or because she genuinely believes her daughter is dead? Jason and I agree that Lieslโ€™s grief seemed genuine. I am of the opinion that someone else helped Britta fake her death. Maybe a guy with crazy hair and a cigarillo?

Whoever it is, I pity them for keeping Britta away from her Mutter. There will be hell to pay when Liesl finds out.

Meanwhile, Alexis and Scout had to flee mid-wedding as Willow had no filter and apparently didnโ€™t care if Scout heard about Scout’s dad doing drugs and belly shots off a hooker.

Readers, is it mean for me to say that I hope we get a storyline where Grandma Alexis sues Drew for custody of Scout and wins? Drew had paid Scout zero attention. He talks about her a lot, but he has seemed far more intrigued by Willow and her kids than his own bereaved daughter.

Drew has been so terrible that I was convinced Drew was somehow Shiloh or being manipulated by someone. However, after all of the shocking things we have learned this week, that has not been one of them. Could someone as inherently good as the original Drew, played by the beloved Billy Miller, have morphed into a villain as despicable as this version of Drew?

As I said earlier, I loved it when Carly dragged Willow over to the mirror and made her look at herself to see how crazy Willow looked. Willow was spinning out and calling out to Wiley. Michael walked in and Willow rushed him with desperation, โ€œI did what you wanted. I didnโ€™t marry Drew! Now you have to let me see my kids!โ€ I understood why Michael said no. Seeing her like that would have frightened her children.

I saw a lot of people online angry with Michael for sending her away, but he was right to do so. In that moment. Truthfully, I donโ€™t think Willow would have to wait until October to see her kids. She has never abused them, so she could at least do supervised visits.

However, there is one secret that has not come out yet. Michael doesn’t know that Willow is the one who tormented Sasha until Sasha packed up Daisy and left town. If Michael finds out about that, Willow may never get to see her kids again.

And that is how I fear Drew will suck Willow back in. Either she will end up pregnant with his kid or he will blackmail her into submission like he has done with so many others. All it would take is for Drew to figure out that Willow is the one who messed with Daisy.

Also, letโ€™s not forget that Sidwell bribed the judge in Michaelsโ€™ custody case. We didnโ€™t know then and still donโ€™t know now why Sidwell did it. But, if Drew gets to Sidwell, they can frame Michael and make it look like he bribed the judge himself, and then he will lose the kids. Itโ€™s all such a big soapy disaster!

Cameron Mathison seems to be such a genuinely good guy in real life. I have to wonder if he loves or hates playing shady Drew. I have heard disgruntled General Hospital viewers are yelling at him on the street because some people canโ€™t tell reality from fiction. It explains a lot about the mess we are in right now as a society.

Perhaps a custody battle with Grandma Alexis would get Drew to recenter his heart? Maybe losing his only child would make him realize how far off track heโ€™s allowed his life to go? Then the writers can write Drew a beautiful redemption story and find him a new love interest. But it should never be Willow.

If Alexis won, I think sheโ€™d be great for Scout. But Alexis might end up in jail for embezzlement — and Auntie Kristina is unhinged — so Scout could end up with Molly. Molly would be a great mom.

Readers, I cannot deny it, I am smitten with Colly or Mody or whatever dumb couple name anyone has come up with for Cody and Molly. Their scenes this week were utterly charming. When Molly had the paperback Rawhide and Satin hidden in the middle of War and Peace, it was adorable. When she referenced her younger self writing a romance novel, I had forgotten all about that! And when Cody grabbed the book and started mockingly reading it aloud, I was giddy.

Josh Kelly and Kristen Vaganos have incredible chemistry onscreen, and I hope the writers see fit to develop them as a couple. But Josh Kelly is off contract now, so I am not hopeful. As soon as we truly lock in on a couple and adore them, itโ€™s over. See Trina and Spencer for reference.

Sure, Nicholas Chavez left General Hospital, but as we can see with Michael that recasts can work out great and give a story a much-needed boost of life. Rory Gibson is so strong as Michael and so likeable, I can barely remember what the previous Michael looked like. I am not saying that to negate the years of work that Chad Duell did in the role, only to say I have fully embraced the recast of Michael. I’m loving the work that Rory is doing.

Michaelโ€™s chemistry with Willow is off the charts. If we had had this version of Michael before Willow had her fling with Drew, I would never have been able to believe that Willow would cheat on him.

Across town at WSB Headquarters, Brennan informed Joss and Vaughn that they were heading off to the Five Poppies resort posing as a honeymoon couple. So, theyโ€™re 100% going to have sex. I mean Brennan told Joss multiple times how important it was that she and Vaughn be believable in their roles, so you know, itโ€™s a given. I have seen all the James Bond movies. Thatโ€™s how the sexy spies do it. Earlier in the week, Brennan made a point of telling Joss that Vaughn is absolutely faking and has zero feelings for her, but I am not so sure about that.

Brennan suggested that Joss use a trip to Australia as her cover. I hope Carly calls Jax to confirm and this could open the door to a Jax recast. I vote for James Hyde who played Jeremy Stark on The Young and the Restless a couple of years back. He might have to work on his Australian accent, but heโ€™s a fantastic actor and downright dreamy to look at.

Anna may not have time to warn Carly though as she is trying to keep her eyes on Emma and Professor Dalton. Now, Jason has drawn Anna into his suspicions about Britt.

Readers, after Fridayโ€™s episode I found myself feeling hopeful for the soapiest of futures. Is it at all possible that the โ€œheโ€ being referred to at the Five Poppies is Faison? Please, please say yes. Seeing Anders Hove again would be a treat. He is my all-time favorite General Hospital villain.

Faisonโ€™s obsession, Anna, advised Jason not to go after Britt, but he is totally going to go after Britt. Five Poppies should be cleaning Jason’s room right now! But when Jason arrives, I think he will be shocked to see Josslyn who is supposed to be in Australia and Vaughn who us supposed to be a Port Charles University janitor. I think itโ€™s Jason who is going to blow Jossโ€™ cover.

Another character that made me proud this week is Portia. She is determined to take responsibility for her actions and resign from her role at General Hospital. Curtis convinced her to wait because he thinks Drew will never know that he is the one who tipped off Willow, but he is wrong. Drew knows.

Will Kristina confess to any other family members or passersby about cutting Ricโ€™s brake lines? Is Ava going to shush Ric more often now that she knows how effective it is? Will Lucy patent that dance move she did when she slinked away from the Drew and Willow altar blowup? She looked like Homer Simpson melting into a shrubbery.

Will Portia and Isaiah continue to get closer as Curtis and Portia continue to drift apart? Will a grateful Dr. O offer to do Laura a favor for getting Lulu off her back? Is Snoopy, I mean Outback, going to pee on Professor Daltonโ€™s research? Will it be Christmastime before Gio ever reunites with any member of his newlfound family?

Is anyone at the WSB going to tell Joss and Vaughn itโ€™s not a good idea to yap loudly at a public pool about their top-secret mission? Will Aunt Stella fail miserably at her matchmaking attempts with Trina and Kai and give up meddling for good? (Spoiler: No!) Will Curtis be dumb enough to believe that Drew is sincere about calling a truce?

Finally, will you also check out Dan J Krollโ€™s latest Beyond the Gates commentary, To a hammer everything looks like a nail?

Only tomorrow knows dear readers and I will tune in tomorrow as long as there are tomorrows.

  1. Missez Premise

    Greetings From the Cornfield!
    Monday’s Episode was Fun, but rather Anticlimactic.
    So now that NutKrissy has revealed to NuMikey her Hairbrained Scheme to get Cooty to Seduce Ava (and NOT her Sister Molly),
    AND, better yet, her scheme to kill Ava which resulted in Liz and Ric’s Accident, will Mikey be the one to send his Narcissistic, Flighty, Psychotic Sister to the Looney Bin?
    While she’s there, she can reserve a Spot for Willow.

    Slic Ric and Smarty should start their own Law Firm.
    They could call it “Silver Fox Inc.” or something Equally Cheesy.

    When Loosely said, “Willow, Your Turn!”
    I was hoping Flames would Shoot Forth from Willow’s Mouth and Engulf EwDrew’s Giant Head.
    Actually, Willow was a bit Meek, sadly.
    Nina, however spewed The Wrath of a Woman Scorned and Fire and Brimstone and the Ninth Circle of Hell right in EwDrew’s Face.
    Brava, Ninny!
    And he STILL doesn’t get it!!
    ~~~
    Speaking of Not Getting It, I actually *like* Molly and Cooty together.
    Of course it will never work.
    Because The Writers Hate Us and We Can’t Have Nice Things.
    And Where the Heck is TJ??
    Are they ever letting him out of the Cornfield?
    Hey TJ!! Say “Hi” to Charlotte and Terry and Scotty and Selina Wu and Jake and Aiden and Cam and Leo!!
    That Cornfield sure is getting Crowded.
    That shot of Weeping (WhackaDoodle) Willow when she showed up at Carly’s in her Wedding Dress was Great.
    I Laughed Out Loud.
    ~~~
    And Obrecht expressing her Delight at Willow ripping EwDrew a New One to Jason, “‘Did You SLEEP wit mine Muttah?’ I thought his Eyeballs were going to POP Right Out Of His Head!”
    Me too, Liesl, me too.
    Dr. O Delights me.
    ~~~
    Tracy upon EwDrew’s entrance and demand of “Where’s Willow??”
    “What? You lost your Bride already?
    How Very Careless of You!!”
    It’s lines like these that reminds me Why I Watch GH.
    I ADORE Liesl and Tracy!!!
    And NuMikey is definitely growing on me.
    When he confronted WhackaDoodle Willow at Carly’s, and yelled “ENOUGH!!” I yelled YES!
    ~~
    Jason to Frau Blรผcher: “There’s NO Grave for Britt in Port Charles.”
    Yeah, so?
    There’s Nobody in the Graves that ARE there (in “The Cemetery With No Bodies, Only Headstones that Everyone Yells At”).
    ~~~
    So, Britt was cremated?
    ::Fascinating::
    So, what’s she injecting in her belly?
    “Resurrection Serum”?
    ~~~
    So, of course Willow ends up at Liz’s, because, well, she NEEDS the Company now because all of her Boyeez were sent to the CornField!!
    Perhaps Liz will get her to check in to the Flight Deck at GH, en Route to Ferncliff.
    Save a Spot for Krissy!!
    Who, by the way, is now stalking Marco.
    Way to go.
    Once again, Curtis, who’s All About Honesty, tries to talk Porthole out of Telling the Truth.
    He wants EwDrew to believe that Ninny told Willow about EwDrew Bumping Uglies with Ninny, when we know it was Mister Honesty Himself who Spilled the Tea, (and now EwDrew knows, too, since Liz blabbed).
    What a Narcissistic Hypocrite.
    And Stupid, too, if he believes One Word about EwDrew’s “Truce”.
    I see NotMaxi and her Really Bad Hair/Wig are back.
    (It’s funny Kirsten Storms is absent, yet in the Opening Credits, but Alexa Havins is still obviously neglected).
    What’s up with that Chick, anyway?
    What’s up with these Eggbeater Hairdos?
    Nineteen-Ninety-Nine Called.
    It wants its Stupid “I Cut my Hair with a Blow Torch and Combed My Hair with an Eggbeater” Hairdos back.
    Well how smart is Smarty that HE Blabbed to EwDrew about Anti-Stella Finagling some Insurance stuff so Smarty could get Treatment?
    Y’All know that creep (EwDrew) has something diabolical in store to hurt Anti-Stella, and thus Hurt Curtis.
    What a Nice Guy.
    ~~~
    Agents Barbie and Ken are being sent, coincidentally, to the very same Hotel/Spy Resort that UnDead Britt is being Held Hostage at!
    ::Fascinating::
    Can’t wait until Jason meets up with them at the Five Poppies!!
    I fully expect for Carly and Dante, and even Frau Blรผcher to end up there as well.
    They need a Resort called “The CornField”.
    That would be Perfect.

  2. Michael

    As awesome as it would be to have Faison back my bet is that the ‘he’ being referenced is Morgan. He has been mentioned so often lately it just has to be Morgan trying to take down Sonny.

    • CeeGee

      I would love that (having it to Morgan or some other character)…I’ve never been one of the folks who enjoyed (as in loving to hate a villain character) having Faison on the canvas. And whenever they’ve brought him back they have him dominate the storylines and screen time that I’d much rather be devoted to other characters!

      • nec

        I agree, plus some characters need to actually remain dead. Other wise “death” on a soap holds no meaning for viewers.

  3. JDF

    I was surprised that Drew was able to recite his vows while holding Willows hands. I didn’t think that he could talk without flapping his hands all over the place. The wedding itself was anti-climatic and I was expecting more than we got.
    If they’re trying to rehabilitate Willow, it’s too late. Now everything is Drew’s fault and Willow still sees herself as the faultless victim.

    Willow to Liz:” Why would Michael keep me from my son?” BECAUSE YOU’RE NUTS!!!!!!

    I thought that Ric was very compassionate when he spoke with Willow and gave her very good advice. But apparently she didn’t hear a word he said because she went right to Michael and asked to see “her” kids.
    Willow is all sweetness until she doesn’t get her way, then she goes berserk . It is very reminiscent of Nelle , who was always so sweet when she was after something. We should not forget that Willow stalked Daisy all on her own. No one put that idea into her head, so I think there is much more insanity to come from Willow.

    • CeeGee

      I’ve been wondering, if they brought Nelle back, would she and Willow bond (shudder) or destroy each other? With Willow’s turn on baby Daisy, they seem like two sides of the same coin.

  4. JDF

    Yes, Tamilu, Faison was a great villain. But I don’t see how the writers can get around Kevin Collins removing Faison’s brain from his dead body and putting it in a jar.

  5. Panhandlerann

    The late, great Eileen Fulton (Lisa on “As the World Turns”) got yelled at in the streets decades ago, so I don’t think people’s response to Cam says anything in particular at all about the “mess” we are currently in (which I fully agree IS a mess).

  6. Evaine

    Yes! Someone who agrees with me about Molly and Cody! I said it way back when they had their first encounter – they have chemistry, they’re fun together, and they work. I’ll be sad if it goes nowhere as you say it might. :/

    You know, I just have to admit, while I’m enjoying the mystery of Professor Dalton and all that it entails, I can’t be bothered with Joss and Vaughn. To me they’re just like two placeholders used to move the plot along. And they’re BORING together.

    Contrary to that, I’m happy dancing that Liesl is back! She adds that last bit of seasoning that makes everything taste perfect.

    I thoroughly enjoyed this week at General Hospital. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • CeeGee

      Totally agree with you about Molly/Cody and Liesl!

  7. Humor Me

    Great column!
    One tiny correction – I thought it was Joss who concocted the tale of visiting a friend of her late grandmother Lady Jane in Australia and Brennan went along with it.
    Red Flag alarm bells going off for me – Carly will call Jax.

    I find it humorous that Liesl is the only person who realizes that Willow is…not herself. Gee whiz – the young woman has practically vibrated off the floor with her anxiety levels and Liesl is the only one who notices!

  8. Linus van Pelt

    Four random thoughts on the past week.

    1. While part of me wondered if the ‘he’ keeping Britt hostage-ish was Faison, I also thought Jerry Jax could be another candidate. I feel like he’s been involved in some of the contagion-type plots in the past.

    2. I hope they reveal that Britt had something other than Huntington’s (maybe whatever biological weapon that Dalton is working on mimics the disease). Whenever they use an actual disease in soaps, I think they ought to avoid ‘miracle’ cures because it’s a bit cruel to viewers (like me) who have that real disease in their family.

    3. I totally think drEEWWW! is going to use Willow’s gaslighting of Sasha to blackmail her. As Nina said this week, it the fact crazyeyes was messing with a baby to mess with its mom were to come out, Willow would not get to see her kids again.

    4. I also sincerely hope Aunt Liesl overhears Willow bitching about how it’s everyone ELSE’s fault she lost her kids (Nina is as much to blame as drEEWWW!) and slaps some sense into her . . . maybe even with an actual slap. I’d even be ok (although it wouldn’t be as much fun) if Elizabeth planted the seed for Willow to . . . I don’t know . . . MAYBE CONSIDER FOR ONE SECOND WHAT SHE’S DONE TO PROMPT HER LOSING HER CHILDREN? sheeesh

    • Linus van Pelt

      A fifth random thought I realized after I hit ‘post.’

      5. I cannot stand how sanctimoniously they are writing Lucas right now. And it’s not the actor that’s the problem; its the writing. As when they made Laura and Anna abruptly turn on Sonny, the writers have failed to lay the groundwork for the change. So it’s not believable. In each case the specific precipitating incident didn’t seem to merit the level of rabid hate and the writers hadn’t peppered scenes leading up to the turn with enough references to folks’ long standing concerns. So each time it seems like a total out-of-left-field change in position.
