General Hospital Commentary: Storms are brewing in Port Charles

Violence is coming to our beloved city of Port Charles, and no one is safe now that a war is brewing between Sonny and Sidwell. Will Michael be able to hold onto his children? Who is visiting Daisy? Did Brook Lynn go too far by digging into Roccoโ€™s birth? Letโ€™s discuss that and more in this weekโ€™s General Hospital commentary for the week ending June 27, 2025.

General Hospital has been sooo good lately. On days I work, I rush home, grab something to eat and hit play on my DVR. I’m even more excited when I get to watch a new episode live like I did on Friday, which did not disappoint. It really feels like the writers are paying attention to what viewers are saying and they are finally giving us what we want … and more.

Let’s start with the hot mess that is Willow. Her horrid love affair with her now ex-husband’s uncle has been dragging on for ages. It will be a year this Fourth of July since this sordid saga began.

I hate Willow. It’s no longer just an intense dislike. I truly loathe her with every fiber of my being. For the longest time I thought Drew had somehow brainwashed her into becoming a shell of the person that she once was, but no more. This week, I saw Willow for who she really is. There was no prompting from Drew or whispers in her ear. She acted on her own accord and proved herself to be a self-serving chameleon who likes to play the victim and is incapable of taking responsibility for her own deplorable actions.

Willowโ€™s little visit with Michael at the Q mansion was so revealing. Even Michael saw that there really is no saving Willow from herself. Itโ€™s not just Drew driving the delusions that they live under, it’s Willow too. She is very much an active participant in her own downfall.

Will the real Willow please stand up

When Willow told Nina about her plans to marry Drew, Willow was in a near-catatonic state. She wore her victimhood like a heavy mantle as she stumbled around the pool area looking for Wiley and feeble excuses to defy the judgeโ€™s ruling. She insisted that she would do anything to get her kids back — except leave Drew. No, she wonโ€™t do that. In fact, she has now doubled down on that front by agreeing to marry him.

Nina was horrified and immediately reached out to Carly and Jason for help convincing Michael to save Willow from herself by giving Willow exactly what she wants — access to the kids. I couldn’t believe my ears. It was such a ridiculous request. Nina suggested that Michael could make it a stipulation that Drew not be present during these visits, but she firmly believed that giving Willow access to the kids would derail her wedding plans. Like her daughter, Nina continues to put Willow — not the kids — first.

I was so pleased that both Carly and Jason let Nina know that it’s not Michael’s responsibility to save Willow, especially when she doesn’t want to be saved.

Willow’s waifish fragility didn’t last long. It vanished as soon as she dropped her wedding bombshell on Michael. โ€œIn the spirit of full disclosure,โ€ Willow had said. But Iโ€™m certain she knew better. It was calculated. She wanted to put Michael on notice that she and Drew had a new plan to get the kids away from Michael. Foolish woman. Michael has a contingency plan.

The final straw for me with Willow was when she accused Michael of being a bully because he warned her that he would do everything possible to keep their innocent babes away from Drew. At the time, Michael had tears in his eyes and spoke with such raw emotion. I don’t know why, but her pathetic accusation really irked me. Michael has been so kind and generous to her, while she has been consistently cruel and vindictive since their split.

From the very beginning Michael has done his best to put the children first. When he has talked about Willow, he’s been both understanding and compassionate, even acknowledging his own failures. Michael blames Drew for the affair more than he does Willow. He even acquiesced to her wishes to keep the kids with her until they could come to an equitable agreement. It was always Willow — goaded by Drew — who ratcheted things up starting with taking Wiley on an out-of-state trip with Drew without having the decency to let Michael know.

Willow acts like she’s irreplaceable in their children’s lives, while Michael is not.

Nothing but praise for Rory Gibson

I will admit that I was leery about a recast, but Rory Gibson has completely won me over. Since joining the cast of General Hospital as the newly minted Michael Corinthos, he’s proven himself to be a powerful actor who is more than up to the task of playing a complicated legacy character like Michael. Usually, thereโ€™s an adjustment period when a new actor takes over the role, but not with Rory. He has made the character his own from the moment Michael entered the ballroom during the Nurses Ball.

I loved Chad Duell as Michael, but I’m excited to see where Rory takes him. The writers picked the absolute best moment to introduce Rory and gave us a scene that will definitely be on my Best of 2025 list. Rory has shown us a more mature and introspective Michael in the few short weeks heโ€™s been on General Hospital. I’m utterly enchanted by this new version Michael.

While Willow was sharing her wedding news, Drew was holding a press conference where he expected Tracy to prostrate herself at his feet. She did not. Instead, she pulled the rug out from under him. It was wonderful to watch unfold. I love seeing Drew get exactly what he deserves for a change.

The writers are giving me everything that Iโ€™ve hoped for and more. The custody ruling, Willow’s “breakdown” and now, Tracy’s takedown. Each setback has been brilliantly executed. What a delicious surprise to learn that it had been Michaelโ€™s idea for Cody to step up and take responsibility for the ketamine in Tracyโ€™s car. However, I am curious why Cody didn’t take the opportunity to tell the world that Drew had been shagging Nina while seducing Willow or why Tracy hasn’t used the video footage of the fight with Cody to show the world how despicable Drew truly is. It seems like the press conference would have been a good time for all of that to come out.

Oh well, there’s always the wedding.

Speculation is ripe about who is sneaking into Daisyโ€™s nursery. Is it Willow? Holly? Some are even speculating that it might be back-from-the-dead Nelle. Thereโ€™s also the possibility that Britt has made her way back to Port Charles and she hasnโ€™t heard the news that Michael — not Jason — is the father of Sashaโ€™s newborn-toddler daughter. ๐Ÿ˜‰

There are so many wonderful soapy possibilities here, but one thing seems clear. Whoever it is, they are not in a rush to kidnap Daisy. If that had been the plan, Daisy would be long gone. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m almost certain it’s Holly who is visiting her granddaughter, and she’s keeping a low profile to stay under Sidwellโ€™s radar.

I havenโ€™t liked Curtis all that much since he ended his marriage to Jordan. I always felt that heโ€™d been unfair to her because heโ€™d put her in a no-win situation and used it against her instead of just admitting that he wanted to rekindle things with Portia. The writers scored big points when they recently had Curtis own up to this. I appreciate when a character can admit a wrong, even a long overdue one.

However, I donโ€™t want Jordan going back to Curtis. Ever. He had his chance — twice — and blew it. Luckily, that seems less likely now that Jordan walked in on Portia and Curtis about to enjoy some makeup sex on his desk. I’m happy that prior to that, Jordan had made up her mind that she would not do what Portia did to her. Good for you Jordan. I think Isaiah is a better fit for Jordan anyway.

Portia needs to look in the mirror

The blame for Portia’s marital woes lies squarely on her own shoulders. Itโ€™s her constant lies and crimes that keep coming between her and Curtis, not Jordan. Her marriage is on shaky ground because Portia keeps doing shady things that can land her in legal trouble. I had a big issue with her demanding that Curtis prioritize saving their marriage on her timetable when she’s the reason their marriage is in trouble in the first place. It’s a red flag. It’s like breaking a plate and expecting the person you threw it at to clean up the mess.

Portia keeps downplaying her actions and making Curtis the bad guy. What Portia did was criminal. She altered medical documents for a legal proceeding to keep someone locked up. She also drugged someone with a powerful tranquilizer without his consent or knowledge. Curtis might be sanctimonious and judgmental, but that doesnโ€™t make what Portia did any less illegal or wrong.

Iโ€™m happy that Sonny isnโ€™t going to let Sidwell have the piers because Sidwell is not a good guy. Heโ€™s not even a bad guy with a few redeeming qualities. Heโ€™s just straight up evil.

Why did Sidwell bribe the judge to help Michael? My initial theory was that he felt guilty about nearly blowing Michael up in that penthouse explosion. I still believe it was Sidwell, and nothing has changed my mind. I saw the glee on his face as he looked at the Port Charles skyline seconds before the blast ripped through Sonny’s penthouse. He knew what was going to happen and he relished it.

However, Sidwell is a soulless person. Heโ€™s not capable of feeling guilty because it would require a conscience. We saw in Africa that he doesnโ€™t value life, and he certainly isn’t burdened by a conscience.

I now suspect Sidwell was motivated by something else altogether. He will use the threat of taking the kids away from Michael to force Sonnyโ€™s compliance. Michaelโ€™s court victory was nothing more than a means to an end and that end is to control the piers and reign terror on Port Charles.

Iโ€™ve never been Brook Lynnโ€™s biggest fan. I enjoy her character when things go well for her, but I quickly grow frustrated whenever sheโ€™s pushed into a corner. She has a tendency to react like a teenager to situations rather than the 30-something year old adult that sheโ€™s supposed to be.

Brook Lynnโ€™s decision to use Rocco to teach Lulu a lesson is a perfect example of her adolescent impulses. I can appreciate her desire to expose Lulu for a hypocrite, but in Brook Lynn’s stunted mind, Rocco is fair game. He’s not. For starters, Rocco is a minor. Additionally, the poor kid has been through a lot lately between Sam dying and his mother waking up from a four-year coma. Oh, and he nearly died from alcohol poisoning last month.

The facts

For those who didnโ€™t watch General Hospital back then, Britt Westbourne stole Lulu and Danteโ€™s frozen embryo and — with the help of Liesl Obrecht — implanted the embryo into her own womb. Britt had hoped to pass the baby off as Patrick Drakeโ€™s child in order to trap him into a relationship.

Eventually, Britt gave birth to a baby boy whom she named Ben. Unfortunately for Britt, her deception was eventually discovered, and Ben was given to his rightful parents, Lulu and Dante. They promptly renamed him Rocco.

Two wrongs donโ€™t make a right โ€“ even on General Hospital

I get that Brook Lynn is hurting, and that she didnโ€™t intend for Rocco to find that file, but itโ€™s still on her. She left that file where anyone could find it.

Like it or not, Lulu didnโ€™t set out to look for dirt on Brook Lynn. Lulu stumbled across the information about Gio. Also unplanned was Gio overhearing a private conversation between Lulu and Lois. Lulu had no way of knowing that would happen. Gio recognizes that, and itโ€™s one of the reasons that heโ€™s able to get past his anger and forge a tentative friendship with Lulu.

Had Brook Lynn been patient the same would have happened for her and Gio. She already has an advantage in that he has loved Brook Lynn for years. Itโ€™s why he was so hurt by the revelation that she was his birth mother. He feels rejected and deceived, so it’s going to take him time to reach a point where he’s able to see things from her perspective as a pregnant teen. But he will get there. He’s a good young man with a big heart.

Using Rocco to hurt Lulu is not going to speed up that timeline. Gio loves his little brother.

I so want Liz to put the kibosh on Kristina’s plan to break up Ric and Ava. It’s not that I want Ric and Ava to stay together. I honestly don’t care one way or the other since I think it’s more of a co-conspirators-with-benefits arrangement than a love match.

However, I’m sick of Kristina continually getting away with her destructive behavior. I have lost all respect for Alexis too because she is not only covering for Kristina, but she is stealing from her own great nephew who is a child. I love a good soapy plot, but this isnโ€™t it. Kristina has become a completely toxic and pointless character.

Alexis isnโ€™t much better. This time, when she loses her law license, I donโ€™t want to hear Alexis lament about the “mistakes” she has made. They are crimes. She brought this all on herself. Again.

Just go away Natalia. No one gives two flips about you. Also, have you lost your mind? At what point did Sonny even imply that he would run away with you? Why would Sonny ever do that when you two arenโ€™t even lovers? Heck, despite planning to start over in Belize with Sonny, Natalia told Brook Lynn that Sonny had put Deception in jeopardy. Natalia is such a snake.

Iโ€™m so disappointed in Kai, and I want Trina free of him. Heโ€™s forever telling Trina one thing then doing another, and sheโ€™s left having to be a supportive girlfriend even though she doesnโ€™t agree with his choices. Now, he has betrayed her trust for a man who won’t hesitate to take Kai down with him.

I understand that Michael underwent some miraculous burn treatment in Germany that left him without so much as a blemish on his upper body, but shouldnโ€™t he be wearing a UV shirt when heโ€™s spending time at the pool this early in his recovery?

Why hasn’t Carly told Michael or Tracy that Nina was the one who drugged Drew? It’s not like she owes Nina anything, and it would go a long way in discrediting Drew.

We love reading what other fans have to say about the show, so please scroll down to the Comments section and share your thoughts. It’s at the bottom of this (and every) column.

“I definitely think that Ninaโ€™s decision to not tell Willow about her affair with Drew while he was wooing Willow falls along the same pattern of behavior as keeping โ€œMikeโ€ secret.” — JBJ

“I wouldnโ€™t say that Nina is a coward. Itโ€™s just Nina putting Nina first, just like โ€œher daughterโ€ puts herself first.” — JDF

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July.

Liz, as usual, I loved your column. I would like to add that it still bugs me that Sasha isnโ€™t letting Michael have any say when it comes to daisy.

  2. Ryan

Also, I was hoping you would call out Martin for being a jerk this week and say that his fall was karma for him treating Tracy the way he did at the press conference.

    • Liz Masters

I had planned to, but my column was getting a bit lengthy, so I ended up cutting it out.

My notes: Martin is acting like a manchild. This is Valentin’s attorney? If you’re going to go up against Tracy and try to bring her down, you better bring your “A” game not silly string.

      • Ryan

The only other thing that bugs me is Sashaโ€™s stubbornness when it comes to the role Michael and his family will have in daisyโ€™s life. It bugged me when she was talking to Felicia about how daisy will always have the scorpios. Itโ€™s like, I guess Michael and his family are chopped liver.

        • Liz Masters

I love the Scorpios, but the Quartermaines have been good to her. She acts like they are the Cassadines going around killing and plotting world domination.
Michael is a good and loving father. She acts like she can better protect Daisy than Michael can. I haven’t seen any evidence of that.

This Natalia story line is pure nonsense. First of all, she has no way of knowing where Sonny’s money came from as she has never worked for Sonny. If she could trace the money that easily one would think that the authorities could as well. Where did she get the idea that Sonny was going away with her? There was never a romantic angle explored in their relationship. Most crazy of all, is the idea that Natalia is facing 5 years of prison time for a second offense DWI. ADA Turner can threaten all she wants, but no judge in this country would send Natalia to prison for being pulled over on a DWI. Natalia was not involved in an accident. There wasn’t any property damage, nor was anyone injured. At most, she would lose her drivers license.
I do believe that TPTB want to get rid of Natalia. I can see a “Godfather” type scenario where Sidwell strikes out at Sonny during the christening and Natalia is in the wrong place at the wrong time. If she dies because of Sidwell, it could change the relationship between Marco and his father.

I loved it when Gio said that the drunk guy that he “saved” in the pool almost dragged him down with him. The pool is three feet deep!

Next, on “Make Room For Sonny”!

    I’m liking NuMikey.

Has anyone ever noticed that EwDrew has No Lips?
Don’t Trust a Man with No Lips!!
Didn’t your Mama ever teach you that, Willow?
    Oh, right.
Which Mama? Harmony (AKA Lorraine), The Mama who Stole you, put you in a Cult, and Sacrificed you to their Cult Leader and also killed Alexis’ Shrink Boyfriend?
Or Ninny, the Mama you Only Recently Acknowledged, the one who (until YOU decided to) was Bumping Uglies with EwDrew until Y’All stepped in?
Can’t WAIT till that Tidbit is disclosed.

What does ANYONE see in Drew?
He’s a Totally Narcissistic Misogynistic Megalomaniacal Criminally Insane Festering Pile of Feces.
Which is Why he Belongs in DC.
Oh and now Idiot Kai also had his Head Planted Firmly up Drew’s Dirt Chute, I see.
    And where ARE Kai’s Folks?
You’d think they’d at least have popped by for a Visit after their son’s Miraculous No Scar Spine Surgery.

Has anyone figured out how Metro Court’s “Rooftop Pool” has Hotel Rooms Three Stories above it?
We’re thinking of NutKrissy’s Three Story Plunge into Said Pool Last August.

Speaking of Stalking, could ShrewLu BE Any More Obnoxious?
Why are TPTB making Babe, I mean Lulu, SO Insufferable??
She’s even ragging at Lucas about Marco!!
Listen, I don’t care for Marco, either, but, like Everything Else, it’s NONE of ShrewLu’s Damned Business.
    Speaking of which.
    Mami Dearest.
She really thinks Sonny’s gonna “Take Care” of her.

I cracked up when Cody asked Sasha if Diasy was too young to change positions on her own. That baby is close to crawling!

      • MissezPremise

Oops, I posted this on the *old* site as well, and forgot to remove my comment to Hope.
My bad. (She’d mixed a few things up).
I’m telling you, Liz, no offense to Dan, but we really miss you and Dan over there!

When is SOMEBODY going to figure out DREW paid off the receptionist at the burn center in Germany to tell Willow that Michael refused to see her?

  7. The brewing war between Sonny and Sidwell has me on edge, especially with Michael caught in the middle. Iโ€™m really curious to see how this will affect his custody battleโ€”can he really protect his kids if things escalate further?

  8. MissezPremise

All my replies are now being sent to The Cornfield.
I was attempting to reply to Liz, but I guess I’m no longer welcome here.
    Hmpf.

    • There is a moderation filter that flags multiple posts made during a certain period of time. It does it to all posts, not just yours. Since I did not write the program, I can’t really change the way that it functions. :-\

        Got it.
Have Y’all been to the Old Site recently?
I still go there, and attempt to post (almost EVERYTHING gets Sent to the cornfield) but the Format is a Hot Mess.
        Oh Well.

            Probably a good idea.
We do miss Y’all over there.

I was cringing so much visiting the old site, it nearly gave me permanent lines. I quit going because I can’t afford Botox. LOL

Seriously though, it breaks my heart to see what passes for news there, and I feel like the content quality has declined. I saw stuff posted that would never have passed Dan’s desk. Never.

  9. JDF

Nina: “My daughter, My daughter ,My daughter”.
Willow: My children, My children, My children.”
No need for a DNA test with these two. The nut didn’t fall far from the tree.

    • Kathie

You could include Nelle in this too. Her attitude towards Wiley was always more about him being hers than wanting what was best for him.

  10. Kam

Are we sure Brook Lynn didn’t intend for Rocco to find that file about him? I found it weird that Brook Lynn wanted to look into the particulars of Rocco’s birth and Britt’s involvement. It’s not like she would be exposing something that everybody didn’t already know, so I don’t see how that would hurt Lulu…except if Rocco were to find out, seeing as he’s the only one who doesn’t know. Whether her plan is for Rocco to find out, or she has some other plan that I can’t figure out, either way it’s not going to end well for her. Her actions will likely push Gio farther away from her.

When Curtis, Tracy and Michael were all discussing whether or not Tracy should take Drew’s deal and do the press conference, and then Michael mentioned that ketamine was a horse tranquilizer, I thought it was weird that he mentioned that and then they moved on to some other scene and it was never discussed. So when Cody got on the stage and started mentioning that the ketamine was his, I knew that this was a plan that Michael had set in motion. Way to go Michael.

Iโ€™m also unsure what Brooklyn hopes to accomplish by digging into Roccoโ€™s origin story. With the slight exception of a point Iโ€™ll get to later, Lulu did nothing wrong. Thereโ€™s nothing to weaponize against her. Of course, it is no coincidence this came up when Kelly Thiebaud will be returning to GH as early as next month. Is Brooklyn going to search out Britt or a Britt lookalike to drive a wedge between Rocco and Lulu?

I like Brooklyn but it goes without saying I donโ€™t like the direction she is heading. Much like Lulu, her energies would be better focused elsewhere. When Lulu was butting into things, at least everyone was a grown up. Rocco is teenager and a very sweet kid at that. Brooklyn knows him, lives with him, heโ€™s essentially family. If Dante or Gio want to give her hell for using him in a revenge game, more power to them.

I will give her this though: if Brooklynโ€™s involvement stops with Rocco learning about how he came to exist, I’m not sure what right Lulu will have to complain. Luluโ€™s whole justification is itโ€™s OK to butt into other peopleโ€™s business because keeping secrets from your child is wrong. If sheโ€™s been mum about points of history with her kids, well she walked right into that one. Lulu has been in a coma for 4 years so itโ€™s maybe more on Dante to have had certain conversations when Rocco grew old enough to understand, but itโ€™s fairly foolish to have not addressed the issue. Not because it really matters, but because itโ€™s public knowledge. Rocco could find out from any number of people. There was a citywide manhunt when Obrecht kidnapped him after Britt got busted; if Rocco were to do a Google search on his father, it would likely come up. Iโ€™m surprised he doesnโ€™t wonder why his parents donโ€™t have any pictures of him before he was 6 months old. And so on.

In regard to the supposed information on Natalia’s computer about Sonny, I don’t understand why Sonny hasn’t just asked Spinelli to deal with it. It sounds pretty simple to change which account Sonny’s contribution came from. And if it’s on Natalia’s computer, it must be on Deception’s computers too, and Sonny’s. Where is Spinelli when we need him?

    • JDF

The problem with this story is that Natalia had nothing to do with Sonny transfering money to Deception. One of his conditions in making the investment was that Deception hire Natalia so she would have a job and be able to stay in Port Charles. Natalia did not and does not have the means to explore and examine any of Sonny’s accounts. Think about it, would Sonny have an account that is labeled “illegal funds”?
