April kicked off with an impressive milestone and some great soapy moments. These days, fools abound in Port Charles because no one seems to make smart choices. Will Kristina do the right thing? What will happen when Liz finds out that Lucky is keeping an explosive secret? Let’s discuss that and more in this week’s General Hospital commentary for the week ending April 04, 2025.
April showers might bring May flowers, but on General Hospital, it brings out the fools.
Happy Anniversary General Hospital
April 01, 2025, marked the 62nd anniversary of General Hospital’s premier episode on ABC. How impressive is that?
It blows my mind that our beloved soap has been on the air longer than I’ve been alive. At one time, ABC had four soaps in their daytime lineup, including All My Children and One Life to Live, but General Hospital has reigned supreme, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’ve been watching for almost as long as I can remember. I don’t always love the storylines or the direction of the show, but my love for the characters and actors has been enduring. Even at its worst, I would rather watch an hour of General Hospital every afternoon than anything else.
I love this show, and I always will. The good Lord willing, it will be on the air for another 62 years.
A trip down memory lane
I’m a sentimental fool, so I was all set to get up in my feels when General Hospital aired their episode to commemorate the special milestone. I even had a box of tissues on hand. I wasn’t disappointed. Not too much anyway.
The episode started off strong with a trip to the memorial wall where photos of our most beloved actors/characters who have passed are lovingly displayed. My eyes always well up with tears when I see those treasured faces. Edward Quartermaine (John Ingle), Lila Quartermaine (Anna Lee), Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) and Bobbie Spencer (Jackie Zeman) are dear to me because they are part of core childhood memories watching General Hospital with my mom after school.
This year’s anniversary episode was particularly emotional because I know that Leslie Charleson’s photo will soon be joining the group. It’s going to be gut-wrenching to watch.
General Hospital’s new Monica Quartermaine Cardiac Care Center
I loved the idea of honoring Monica with a cardiac care center. I also appreciate that Monica’s absence was unavoidable because Leslie had been gravely ill when the episode was taped. The writers made the right call. I’d rather think of Monica at home nursing an illness than see a stand-in. The writers also did a good job of laying the foundation for what is sure to unfold in the coming weeks. It sucks, but with Leslie gone, Monica’s character should be retired. A recast would never feel right.
I did have a bit of an issue with the characters waxing poetic about Monica’s years as General Hospital’s Chief of Staff but saying next to nothing about her incredible career as a cardiac surgeon. She was Chief of Cardiac Surgery for most of her career. That’s why the center is so fitting.
Equally disappointing was the lack of presence of Monica’s family and flashbacks of the things they referenced. Oh, Tracy and Ned were there, but where were Jason, Danny, Wiley, and Amelia? Jason’s absence was especially glaring because he popped up in the very next episode. He should have been there for the center’s unveiling. Wiley and Amelia too. The only flashbacks we were treated to were of Lucy, which were completely unnecessary.
Surely Carly could have picked up her grandchildren so that Wiley and Amelia could have seen their great-grandmother honored. Heck, their grandfather financed the project. It just seemed strange to me that both Jason and Danny live with Monica, but they didn’t attend. I can understand why Jake wasn’t there since he’s off studying art in Europe. Unfortunately, Scout is saddled with a bitter vindictive dad.
Overall, I give the episode a solid C+. It was nice, and I appreciate the effort but there was room for improvement.
The April’s fool award goes to…
Kristina Adela Corinthos-Davis!
Kristina has been unhinged since she got it into her head to be Molly’s surrogate. Everyone — viewers and denizens of Port Charles alike — saw that the surrogacy was never about Molly and T.J. It was about Kristina. It’s always about Kristina. She wanted to feel valued, adored, and respected. The problem is, Kristina is a broken soul and never puts in the work. She has spent her life being coddled by two indulgent parents who have always jumped in and fixed her problems to spare their precious daughter from having to face the consequences of her actions.
This time, Kristina has gone too far. She decided to rid herself of Ava by cutting the brake lines of Ava’s car. Or was it Ric’s car? I’m a bit fuzzy on whose car it actually was, but both Ric and Liz ended up paying the price for Kristina’s deadly impulse.
Folks, I’m so done with this character. I know that I’ve said that countless times, but it’s so true this time. How is she any better than Ava if she’s willing to commit murder to assuage her need for vengeance? What if Avery had gotten into that car with her mother? It’s time for Kristina to pay a price for her actions. Ava did. She had Avery ripped out of her womb in the vilest of ways, lost custody of her for years, and Ava suffered horrific burns after Morgan died. Ava has also done a few stints in jail, and she lost her daughter to murder.
On soaps, that’s justice.
I always considered Irene to be more T.J. and Molly’s daughter than Kristina’s. Who knows how things might have played out if Irene had lived, but Kristina would never have been able to cut T.J. out of his daughter’s life. It irks me how Kristina completely dismisses T.J. and Molly’s loss as secondary to hers — except when it benefits her.
Lucky’s a fool too
Dear readers, I’m shocked that Lucky covered for Kristina. Not so much in the beginning when he thought Ric had been the single occupant of the car. Lucky has no love for Ric, so it made sense that Lucky would send Kristina off before anyone could overhear her confessing to cutting the brake lines. However, all bets should have been off once Lucky realized that Liz had been injured too. That goes double when he arrived at General Hospital and saw her unconscious in the emergency room. Shame on Lucky for keeping silent.
Lucky claims to love Liz, but his loyalty appears to be to Sonny and Kristina. What Kristina did wasn’t accidental. It was deliberate and deadly. Liz deserves better. I find myself saying that a lot when it comes to Lucky and Liz.
I want to ship Lucky and Liz, but it feels like they are in two different places in life. Liz is a fool for love, and Lucky just comes off as a fool.
No rest for the wicked on General Hospital
That brings me to our resident evil fool, Drew. Drew grows more diabolical by the day. He’s also growing increasingly reckless the more morally corrupt he becomes. Soon, even Willow will see him huffing and puffing his threats to all the people he once claimed to care about. She’ll make excuses, but one day — when the truth smacks in the face — she will look back and see all the signs she willfully ignored.
The way Drew stormed into Portia’s office and cruelly threatened to blow her world apart if she didn’t rein Curtis in was ugly. That’s not Oscar’s father or the man who forgave Kim Nero for all her crazy antics. The Drew spitting venom at Portia is not the kind and honorable person I remember putting his life on the line to save others whenever danger lurked. He’s not the selfless man who flew to Greenland to help defeat Victor and bring Liesl home in time to save Willow.
I refuse to believe that the beatdown in Pentonville changed Drew this much. We’ve seen him endure so much worse and retain his integrity and strong sense of right and wrong. There’s an evilness in Drew these days that seems to be growing daily. That kind of wickedness doesn’t just happen. The seeds had to be there from the start, which we definitely did not see during Billy Miller’s days or even Cameron Mathison’s early tenure on General Hospital.
It’s why I can’t shake the feeling that something else is going on that will eventually explain Drew’s newfound scorched earth philosophy.
Emma is no fool
Folks, Emma has grown on me. Braedyn Bruner has completely won me over. I will admit that I didn’t like the character shift when Emma first arrived in town, but things have quickly changed. The scene with Finola Hughes when Anna tried to read Emma the riot act was sheer soapy perfection. Braedyn’s performance was powerful and moving. Whoever wrote that scene needs to write more, and Braedyn needs more time in the spotlight.
I teared up when Emma explained why the Quartermaines meant so much to her. As she shared the story about Edward, I saw that scene play out in my mind as if I were watching it again. Edward’s stylish newsboy cap perched atop his head, the sweet smile he flashed as he gave a thumbs up from his wheelchair. Ugh. I’m getting all teary-eyed just writing about it. It was such a poignant scene, made even more bittersweet by the passing of John Ingle weeks later.
Emma’s heartfelt words transported me back to that beautiful moment and Edward’s selfless sacrifice. Here is a clip:
I love that Emma knows about that and honors it.
Anna needs a refresher in sleuthing and deducing
While we are on the topic of Emma. Why do Anna and that shady new prosecutor think Emma committed terrible crimes? She’s barely out of her teens and is a crusader against injustice. It’s clear to me that Emma discovered something that her former school does not want to get out. That’s why they worked out a deal to drop the charges in exchange for Emma’s silence. If the school didn’t do anything wrong, there wouldn’t be a need for an NDA or quid pro quo agreement.
It’s weird to me that Anna always thinks the worst of Emma.
Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah
Weeks ago, we learned that Jenz Sidwell and Natalia Ramierz were once married. Viewers immediately began to wonder if perhaps Jenz was the father of Natalia’s children. More specifically, Blaze. This week, we got some answers. Sort of.
After Jenz hosted a meeting with the ladies of Deception to discuss the prospects of going into business together, Natalia stayed behind to suss out Jenz’s intentions. Things quickly turned personal. And nasty. It was clear that Jenz has some unresolved feelings about his split from Natalia. I don’t like Natalia. She said some hateful things that she made excuses for, but never any apologies. However, I felt that jump of hers to my soul when Jenz warned her not to push him too far.
I wasn’t surprised when Marco showed up on Wyndemere’s footsteps either. Jenz had dropped hints that he and Natalia shared at least one child. First, when he accused Natalia of destroying their family and later when Jenz mentioned having a son to Sonny.
I think/hope Marco is a good guy, but I’m eager to see more of this family dynamic and learn about their history. Did Jenz raise Marco as a single father? Does Natalia know that Marco is gay? Is Marco Eloi or an older/younger brother? I need some answers, which is why this is a delightfully messy soapy storyline.
General Hospital Quick Takes
If Sonny needs heart surgery, and he built a cardiac care center at General Hospital, why is he planning to go to California for treatment?
So, Ava lives in a low-rent apartment building, but they boldly paint the names of tenants above their assigned parking spaces? For privacy reasons, I wouldn’t want my name plastered on a parking space.
Why does Alexis have a framed photo of Sam and Lucas on her office desk? I would expect her to have a snapshot of all three of her daughters. Lazy writing. Marco should have seen an array of photos on a table or shelf, and among them the image of Sam and Lucas.
I love Sasha but she needs to fess up about the baby’s paternity once Michael gets his divorce and custody issues settled. Her argument about protecting the baby has lost all its power now that the world believes Jason is the father. I’m fine with Sasha keeping quiet for now because I have no desire to see Willow gain the upper hand in court, but once Michael is well enough to take an active role in his child’s life, he should be allowed to.
Also, Michael needs to return. Sooner rather than later. So do Nikolas and Spencer. The General Hospital Nurses Ball would make the perfect backdrop for a shocking return — or three.
Kudos to the writers! I loved that they resolved the Quartermaine crypt issue with a last-minute save from Monica! Even better that Drew can no longer legally use the Quartermaine name. It’s the least he deserves for trying to tear down a mausoleum full of his own relatives. Who does that? A soulless fiend, that’s who.

Iโm not happy that lucky is lying to Liz about this. What the hell? Itโs such a slap in the face to all of the Elizabeth and lucky fans. We have waited for this for so long and this is what we get? I watched their relationship in the 90โs and they were magic together. I want that magic back.
Iโm with you about Michael needing to return.
Liz!!
Good to *see* you again!!
Well, here I go again attempting to post my Thoughts and Opinions which will likely get “Held for Moderation” as they were, repeatedly, last week (and the week before) for No Good Reason.
Why do I bother?
Because I’m Stubborn.
Monday…
~~~
Wow! That’s some nasty looking accident!!
Too bad the Person Who Caused It (NotKrissy) will likely NOT go to Jail.
~~~~
This whole Crypt Keeper Fiasco is really pissing me off.
Anna arresting her Granddaughter.
Does the Police Commissioner really have NOTHING better to do?
Plus, legally, this is ALL WRONG.
Do TPTB WANT us to stop watching??
I can easily entertain myself by watching reruns of LA Law, at least they get it right (the Law) SOME of the time!!
Plus, the ’80’s Fashion and ’80’s Hairdos are Very Entertaining.
But I digress.
~~~~
Cody and Molly??
No, Please.
Cody and Lulu?
Yes, definitely.
Would serve them both right.
NuLulu, The Formerly Comatose Shrew, and Cooty, The Village Idiot.
A Match Made in Hell.
And how come NuLulu STILL isn’t in the Opening Credits?
I know they switch them around, but she hasn’t been on One Single Time since she was resurrected.
Hmmmm…
Speaking of Matches Made In Hell, where did Lucky appear from?
I’m sure he knows EXACTLY why NutKrissy kept repeating “It was supposed to be AVA!!”
She just ADMITTED to cutting the brakes.
And now Lucky’s gonna COVER for her???
Just because she’s Sonny’s Spawn???
If this chick doesn’t get arrested….
~~~
Meanwhile, back at GH, where NO ONE IS WEARING A STETHOSCOPE!
“Call a Code Massive Transfusion” sez Lucas re: Ric’s Injuries.
Believe it or not, that’s an Actual Real Medical Thing.
Another Actual Real Medical Thing?
STETHOSCOPES ON DOCTORS AND NURSES.
I’m not saying Every Single Doctor and Nurse (they borrow them from each other sometimes ) but this is RIDICULOUS.
~~~
Back at Charlie’s, where Krissy just snuck in….
Molly re: Cody, “It was just a little Mistaken Grand Theft Auto, not like he tried to MURDER someone!”
No, but your sister, NutKrazy NotKrissy, just did!!!
~~~
Have I mentioned lately how much I love Diane Miller?
And why didn’t Emma tell everyone WHY she’s defending the Q Crypt (like she finally told Anna, who should have known anyway) in the FIRST place??
I remember those scenes with Little Emma and Edward Q.
I got Verklempt when Emma was explaining this to Anna.
But she shouldn’t have to explain, Anna should know, if she wasn’t so damned self-centered.
~~~
Sonny’s Jet looks Evil.
Why is there what looks like two formula bottles next to Jason?
I was trying to figure those out last week as well.
These are the things I notice.
~~~
Tuesday…
Terry!!!
About Friggin’ Time.
Now, what we need is a Good, Juicy Terry and Yuri Story.
Preferably a Happy One!!
It’s really getting Tedious with the Current Couples.
Especially the BLQ/Chase Baby Fiasco.
And the Drillow Debacle.
::Yawn::
I know this episode is celebrating the GH Anniversary and all, but are we supposed to believe that time has ::STOPPED:: and everything that happened last night doesn’t count?
Anna on the phone with Robin:
“Oh and you give a Big Hug to Noah and Patrick! Oh, and by the way, I had Emma Arrested last night!! You too! Bye!!”
Ok so she left out the part about Emma, but really?
And everyone’s so concerned about the Festivities, has anyone checked on Ric or Elizabeth recently??
You now, the two Friends and Family Members that were in a Near-Fatal Accident caused by NutKrazy NotKrissy??
Sorry, but I am not that person who can suspend disbelief for an episode, only to go back to the original plotline the next day.
~~~
Aww…the picture of Britt on the wall tugged at my heart.
Why’d they kill her off?
I know, because The Writers Hate Us and We Can’t Have Nice Things.
Britt started out awful, but by the time they killed her off, I really liked her.
::Sigh::
Hey! I could use some of that stuff that Maxi was handing out at GH.
At MY Hospital you’re lucky if you get a T-Shirt.
~~~~
Wednesday…
I don’t like this Sasha/Sidwell Thing.
Dos anyone?
Of course not.
But, since The Writers Hate Us and We can’t Have Nice Things…
One thing I could do without is LooseLips Coe and her Wildly Flapping Hands.
And just what purpose does Natalia serve?
Other than being Sidwell’s Ex (and Blaze’s Mami Dearest).
Who’s Baby Daddy is Sidwell?
~~~
Marco!! Polo!!!
::Fascinating::
Didn’t one or two of us predict this?
I still say he might be a ReCastadine Spawn, somewhere down the line.
We’ll see.
~~~~
So, what exactly did Emma *do* in California that was so horrible?
I know, the Writers haven’t figured it out yet.
~~~~
Thursday…
This Week, on “The Most Horrible Person On Earth”
EwDrew(NotQ) Cain.
Close Second:
Councilman ButtPlug.
What is that little Smarm’s name, anyway?
How are the Writers making this character (EwDrew) more reprehensible every day?
Ah, yes, Current Events!!
I’m no fan of Porthole, but Girl, TELL YOUR HUSBAND WHAT DREW IS DOING!!!
Curtis already knows about Heather’s Labs.
He needs to know that EwDrew is Blackmailing Porthole.
Tell Him The TRUTH.
~~~~
I like that NotJagger II the Sequel (Vaughn?) said to Joss,
“You’re shaping up yo be a Halfway Decent Agent”, because she figured out where to get coffee by reading his To-Go Cups.
Oh yeah, she’s a Regular Freaking 007.
Now, then, Jenz Sidwell.
How come HE’S in the Opening Credits and NuLu still isn’t??
But I Digress.
If I had my choice of having Dinner with EwDrew or Sidwell, I’d choose Jenz because at least he doesn’t make me want to Vomit.
But I still don’t trust him.
So I guess Natalia’s Son is his, but Blasรฉ?
Probably not.
Marco!!!
I shoulda known!!!
I suspected he was a ReCastadine, but THIS is even better.
~~~
Friday…
So is NutKrissy going to Spill to anyone else but “GodInTheGHChapel” that she cut what she thought were Ava’s Brakes?
What we need here is Detective Sipowicz from NYPD Blue to “Coax” the Info out of her. Yep.
~~~
Continuity Police!!
Joss to NotBrennan re: NotJagger II (Vaughn):
“He Zipped Up his Hoodie as if it was a Signal…”
Ok, you see him ::zip:: his hoodie and walk over to the Counter, but when he turns and Accidentally On Purpose ::Bumps:: into the Broad, his Hoodie is Wide Open.
When did that happen?
That Blue Package, was it from Tiffany’s??
Yeah, no.
~~~
Is Gannon the only Doctor left in GH besides Lucas, Porthole, and occasionally, Terry?
Where’s TJ???
Why isn’t TJ checking up on his Ex-Pseudo-Father-In-Law?
Carly’s Bowl O Moss looks Pregnant.
Lucky’s been in PC for a few months now.
Has he showered yet? Hard to tell.
Wow the WSB Training Kamp must be next door to Carly’s House!!
Joss made it home in Thirty Seconds Flat!
I agree, Cody and Lulu makes more sense than Cody and Molly. They also have more chemistry.
Great catch! I did not even notice that Vaughn’s hoodie had been unzipped when he supposedly zipped it seconds before.
Yes, last week, and then it finally went through.
A few small comments were “held” and deleted, never went through.
I said nothing nasty, mind you.
Omg, the *other* site held my comments at least 6 times last week. I had to edit way too many times.
Anyway.
Yes. Vaughn’s Hoodie.
Stuff like that drives me nuts!!
The *other* (old) site hasn’t posted yet.
::Fascinating::
That’s weird…hmmm
It was weird, and a lot of the other regulars are having problems over there as well.
Hmpf.
Still, it’s great to *see* you here. ๐
Are there any normal roads in Port Charles or are they all dark, isolated narrow roads that wind through wooded areas?
The writers need to brush up on modern cars. They have had brake warning lights for about 10 years now that
light up on the dash board if brake fluid is low or brake pressure drops to dangerous levels and who believes that Krissy knows her way under the hood of a car?
At least there were no cliffs. A lot of cliffs seem to show up in Port Charles when someone needs something to drive or fall off of.
Barely two weeks of “spy training” which only seemed to include workouts that appeared less rigorous than a high school gym class and they send Joss into the filed. She probably worked harder when she was on the volley ball team. No wonder the WSB is a mess.
As soon as Brennan showed up and made those comments to Vaughn in front of Joss, I knew it was all a test. The fact that Joss didn’t see it tells me that she needs more spy training. LOL
Dear Liz – great column as usual. I enjoy your insight and delights at this 62nd anniversary.
I too love the idea of the Monica Q Cardiac Center. I read this was in the works before LC passed away. I loathe the idea that Sonny was the endower (is that a word?). Monica tolerated Sonny because of Michael. Period, end of statement. Sonny kiled AJ and Monica (and a few of us) never forgave him. Why couldn’t the hospital just name the center without Sonny be involved. It is a slap in the face to Monica in my humble opinion. The hubris of the man/ character.
I am hopeful that Krissy will have her come to Realization that she needs help moment. Let us remember – Lucky gave her the ‘pass’ before he knew that Liz was injured in the wreck. Lucky needs to inform, period. It is what is best for everyone, including Lucky.
Double-O-Joss is ready for the world, and Vaughn is her babysitter. This will be fun. I still think what Emma uncovered is the target and not Emma herself. While Younger Emma showed she was a spy in training, Emma as a spy is too obvious. That is what makes Joss the spy so delicious.
I loathe that the Nurses’ Ball is back (climing on soap box) because it IS NOT a Ball. It is a variety show. GH does “Balls” well and an evening of dining and dancing with a few solos is a great idea. But this IS a variety show and I wish TPTB would realize this and call it what it is.
Thank you Liz and keep on watching and posting. I value you opinion and insights for when I go off the grid and sometimes off down a rabbit hole. Cyberhugs from across the miles.
Personally, I always preferred the Cassadine Bacchanalia Balls over the Nurses Balls, but I appreciate that at least the Nurses Balls are — mostly — about the hospital and the staff.
However, the fashions for the Cassadine event were much more glamorous and the backdrop straight out of a fairytale.
Sending cyberhugs right back to ya!!
Has anyone ever died at the Nurses’ Ball? I do not recall that anyone has. But those Cassadine Balls do not work out very well for the hostesses.
To Humor Me’s point, I think appropriate word is gala. But neither the Nurses’ variety show or Nurses’ gala sound that great.
That’s a good question! I don’t think anyone has died, but it has been close a few times. Jake almost unleashed a deadly biotoxin during his magic act, and Nelle attacked and left Brook Lynn for dead during the NB. Those are just two times mayhem has ensued. I also recall Ryan knocking Kevin out and hanging him from the rafters to the horror of those who attended the NB.
They dropped the Nurses’ Ball fron GH for several years and I never noticed. After watching Lucy pop up all over the place the last two episodes, I understand why I didn’t miss it.
I like Braedyn Bruner as the Anti-Emma. From a physical stand point I think it is a very good recast. I just don’t like what they’ve done with the character, but that seems to be a recurring theme on GH.
I agree with you initially but the writers seem to be moving the character into the direction of the original Emma.
I do recall Ava coming home to Rick at her place and commenting about him parking in her spot. However, I don’t recall him borrowing her car. This is why I thought it odd that Kristina automatically assumed that it was Ava’s car based on it being her spot. You would think she would know the car her little sister’s mother drops her off and picks her up in.
Sonny is still insistent on hiding his health problems, which is why he wants to do his surgery in California, and not in General Hospital where everyone knows him.
I do wonder if Marco is just Blaze’s half brother, and maybe she didn’t have much to do with him possibly because of who his father is and what he does. I remember Blaze mentioning her brother previously being in the music industry and he left either because it wasn’t for him or Natalia was too controlling. However, since her brother’s sexuality never came up in any of her conversations with her mom or Kristina after she came out, it would be weird if Marco was that same brother. Then again General Hospital does have a habit of changing storylines and expecting us not to notice.
Lower rent apartment buildings generally do not have assigned spaces, let alone inside parking which begs the question why would Rick look for parking inside the building and I’ve never seen parking spaces assigned by
name even in high rent buildings. The spaces are assigned by apt.# or just numbers. Then, there just happens to be a tool box by the car. I can’t picture Ava getting under the hood of a car.
Liz, Iโm loving that almost no one in port Charles likes drew. I was getting so sick of people not sticking up for Michael (like when Sonny killed aj and when Sonny chose Nina over his family) and Iโm loving that so many people are having his back right now (whether directly or indirectly). For once, Michael is being treated like the wronged party instead of unfairly being treated like the bad guy and thatโs refreshing.
Agree 100%
I sure hope Emma didnโt uncover anything terrible at Cal! My beloved UCs have enough problems without some made up scandal on a TV show.
There is no excusing what Kristina has done. Sabotaging someoneโs car is an especially reckless way to try to kill someone. Sheโs lucky Ric didnโt run into someone else (and that he and Elizabeth survived which goes without saying). Thereโs really no way the show can move forward without sending her to prison or a psychiatric facility. Which actually makes me wonderโฆdidnโt Kate Mansi play a character who had a breakdown on the other soap opera she won an Emmy on? I wonder if what looks like poor development for Kristina is actually someone who wants to get the character to this point because they know the actress can play it.
Anyway, Iโm not going to make any excuses for Kristina, but since the who is worse issue came up: After Kristina tried to kill someone, she had an attack of conscience and tried to stop it from going farther. When Ava shot Connie, she left her
