Things are getting dangerous in Port Charles as truth bombs are set to drop and shake things up. Will Dante regret how he treated Gio? What will it take to open Willow’s eyes about who Drew really is? Will Alexis end up in jail right next to Kristina? Let’s discuss all that and more in this week’s General Hospital commentary for the week ending May 09, 2025.
They say the truth can set you free, but in Port Charles the truth is a far trickier beast. It’s hard to keep up with all the secrets people are keeping these days, but it won’t be for much longer. Soon, lives will be rocked and relationships tested when the truth is exposed. Unfortunately, for some freedom won’t be so easy.
Let’s start with Dante, who had the scare of his life when Rocco made some poor choices.
Truth bomb #1: Dante’s inferno
Nothing is scarier than facing the possibility of losing your child. For Dante and Lulu, that nightmare became a reality when Rocco made a series of poor choices that nearly cost him his life. Dante’s fear had him lashing out at poor Gio whose only sin was to render assistance when Danny asked for help. Gio, like most people in that situation, thought Rocco just needed time to sleep off his first buzz — and perhaps a bucket to puke in. Should he have called Dante and Lulu? Yes, but hindsight is always 20/20.
I’m sure Gio would have noticed Rocco’s shallow breathing if Cody hadn’t walked in and beaten Gio to the punch. Gio had had every intention of staying with Rocco and had even asked Danny to fetch some coffee. However, Dante knew none of that when he first arrived at General Hospital, so I understood his anger at Gio. Gio was a convenient target. Dante was scared and he’d been through a lot in recent months.
Cause we need a little controversy — or do we?
What I didn’t understand or appreciate were Dante’s ridiculous actions following the doctor’s announcement that Rocco was awake and expected to make a full recovery. Instead of getting to the bottom of what transpired that night by talking to Rocco, Dante chose to jump to conclusions, accuse Gio of things that Gio had no part in, and make threats of criminal prosecution. It was awful and completely out of character for Dante. He’s not just a father, but he’s someone who knows better.
Gio is a good young man. He’s responsible, a gifted musician, goes to college full-time and works in his spare time. Gio is kind, honorable, and someone who suffered his own losses with the deaths of his parents. At least, two people he believes were his parents. For Dante to go off on Gio like that was not right, and I expect better from a man who holds a badge and should be better at handling stressful situations.
Of course, we all know that this about creating friction and controversy where there was none. Just once, I would love a less predictable reunion between parent and long-lost child.
Truth bomb #2: A gentle persuasion
Folks, I love Tracy. She has a mean streak a mile wide, but no one can cut to the heart of a matter quite like she can. Tracy didn’t pull any punches when she called out Lois and put Lois on the defensive. I smiled from ear-to-ear as I watched everything play out. Such soapy goodness.
Like me, Tracy questioned just how much influence Lois had over Brook Lynn’s decision to give her baby up for adoption. Both Brook Lynn and Lois insist that it had been Brook Lynn’s idea, but Tracy wondered if there was more to it. Did Lois offer Brook Lynn different options — or did Lois use gentle persuasion by constantly reinforcing that adoption was the best choice?
I want to be clear. I don’t think Lois pushed Brook Lynn to give the baby up for adoption. But I do think she made it easier for Brook Lynn to stick to that choice by reminding Brook Lynn how much a baby would change Brook Lynn’s life at that young age. Keep in mind, Lois had six months or more to talk to Brook Lynn about this. It wasn’t just a single conversation, and the deed was done the next day. There were multiple discussions about the adoption and Brook Lynn’s future as the plan was put into motion.
Did Lois give Brook Lynn a safe space to change her mind and keep the baby? It will be interesting to see what Brook Lynn says once she finds out that Lois never gave Gio up. She kept him close the entire time.
Truth bomb #3: A deal with the devil at General Hospital
A broken heart led to shakedown when Brad saw Lucas and Marcus sharing a snack at General Hospital. Brad being Brad decided to burn some bridges. He shared valuable information with Drew that allowed Brad to leave town and start over in style. Brad, this is why Lucas could never trust you. With Brad, revenge is a dish that is always best served piping hot. He’s destructive and selfish, and I for one am happy to see him gone.
It’s not that I feel sorry for Portia. I don’t. She knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she teamed up with Nina to take down Drew. This is all on her starting with the boneheaded choice of using ketamine instead of a drug more effective at wiping Drew’s memory. I thought that was one of the things that Nina and Portia had agreed on, so imagine my surprise when Nurse Deanna told Drew not to worry because his memory would return once the drug left his system.
Making Drew look like he’d taken the drug recreationally was a dumb idea. Drew has no history of drug use. He barely drinks. Better to have made it look like Drew had been out having a good time with a stranger rather than appearing as if he’d had a drug fueled encounter with an escort. Wasn’t the plan to expose Drew as a cheating cad to Willow? It was, which means Portia messed up with the ketamine. She turned Drew into a victim.
Truth bomb #4: Denial, thy name is Willow
Naturally, Willow was more than happy to hear the news about the ketamine because it meant that she could go back to Drew.
I loved Nina’s talk with Willow, even though it didn’t yield the results that I had hoped for. Nina was spot on when she asked Willow, “Is it possible that you’re not allowing yourself to believe that Drew hurt you that way because you changed your whole life for him? You’ve invested so much into him and if Drew isn’t that man you believed he was — it’s not just an indictment on Drew’s choices; it’s an indictment on yours.”
Wow! There was so much truth in all of that, and Willow knows it. You could see it written all over her face.
I have no idea what it will take for Willow to open her eyes to the man Drew really is, but when that day comes, I hope Nina’s words come back to haunt Willow. All the signs have been there from the beginning. As Nina reminded Willow, an honorable man doesn’t seduce his nephew’s wife.
Truth bomb #5: General Hospital’s sketchy labs and a dastardly professor
We finally got some answers about Professor Dalton, as well as Emma’s trouble back at Berkeley. Emma shared with Josslyn that Emma had joined a group of animal rights activists and broken into Dalton’s lab on campus where he’d allegedly conducted testing on cats and dogs. If true, the man needs to die a miserable death. Preferably at the fangs of his victims. I’m not sure why Emma would be punished for exposing such an atrocity, but she was. All parties signed an NDA and parted ways.
Except, Emma followed Dalton to Port Charles and is on a mission to expose him. Does he know that Emma was part of the group that broke into his office? I don’t know. If he does, Emma is sure to be in danger.
That brings us to what the professor is up to at General Hospital. Is there animal testing going on in the labs? My initial reaction was, “Absolutely not. No way.” But then I remembered that General Hospital has a very long and sordid history of sketchy lab techs — ahem, Brad. A guy like Dalton could easily grease some palms to carry out his disgusting tests.
Truth bomb #6: Ava and Ric put the squeeze on Alexis
What is Alexis going to do with Helena’s dagger? She keeps waving it around like a fly swatter, which spells trouble. I fear either Ava or Ric will find themselves on the wrong end of that deadly blade if they aren’t careful. So far, I haven’t seen any evidence of that caution is in their vocabulary.
Ava and Ric have set a dangerous plan into motion, but they’ve also opened themselves up to legal ramifications by doing so. Blackmail for any reason is illegal, especially when money is being stolen from a child’s trust fund. I don’t think Ava or Ric is looking at the big picture here or what Alexis is capable of. Bleeding Alexis dry until she is forced to turn on Kristina is going to backfire because Alexis is never more dangerous than when she feels cornered and is in Mama Bear mode.
Also, Kristina is a wild card and equally dangerous. She already cut the brake lines of a car. What happens the next time she feels enraged and frustrated? Will she pick up Helena’s dagger and plunge in someone’s black heart?
General Hospital Quick Takes
Folks, what was the point of this ridiculous injury/surgery storyline for Kai? The whole thing was…odd. Where was the camera guy when Kai took his first steps minutes after waking up from surgery? Wasn’t that the whole reason for the documentary? Please, free Trina from this boring pairing. Our girl deserves so much better. It’s time for her to go to Paris, find Spencer and bring him home.
Braedyn Bruner’s curly hair is gorgeous. They need to let her rock those beautiful locs more often.
I burst out laughing when Kristina assured Lucky that therapy had helped her. What?!? No, it hasn’t. Not At. All. Did Kristina forget that she had cut Ric’s brake lines? Lucky is such a tool for not calling her out on that.
Does anyone else find it odd that people can just walk into Jack Brennan’s office without a by your leave whenever they please? I would think the WSB Station Chief’s office would be better guarded than that. A convenience store has more security than the WSB offices.
What General Hospital viewers are saying
I always love getting to read what viewers think of not only the column but also the show. So please join in the discussion in the Comments section below the column. Since I am also active on quite a few social media platforms, I also share viewer feedback and comments from there.
Mission: Take down Professor Dalton
Who brings a thumb drive to the beach? Emma didnโt have her laptop so she must have dropped it off at home. Why would she keep the thumb drive in her pocket other than the writers needed an easy way for Joss to steal it and how would Joss know that Emma would be walking around with it in her pocket? This Joss as a WSB agent story line just isnโt cutting it and needs to end. Maybe Emma is an agent in training as well and this is a competition. — JDF
Missed opportunities
One thing Iโve hated about the efforts to take down Drew is that theyโve given us potentially juicy and highly entertaining collaborations to do just that (Nina and Carly partnering up, and less interesting but make it something Nina and Portia)โฆand then they just fizzle. Nina and Carly just give us scenes where they whine about how terrible it is. Portia is a master planner that has Brad under her thumb and got the drugs to Nina but then couldnโt organize herself to make sure the drug test came up nada in her own hospital with Brad as the lab tech? Ugh. — CeeGee
Until next week, friends. And if you are watching Beyond the Gates, check out Dan J Krollโs latest commentary. Itโs calledย DEFCON Dana.ย It talks a lot about one of the best episodes of a soap in quite some time.
Liz
Dante was quite the jerk this week. I guess his attacks on Gio are intended to increase the drama of the eventual reveal of Gio’s parentage.
How dumb was it for Portia to involve Brad in her and Nina’s ketamine escapade? It’s dumb to involve anyone in such a plot, let alone Brad, and as chief of staff it would be far easier for Portia to acquire drugs
than it would be for Brad who is just a lab tech.
Then we have Brad and Drew. First of all, there is no way Brad can prove that Portia drugged Drew and it’s quite a leap for Brad to form that conclusion. Who would believe anything that Brad says? He is a convicted
felon, worked for his crime boss Aunt Selena and Drew paid him 500K . It could be argued that Drew bribed Brad to implicate Portia. In any event, the 500k payment impugns what little credibility Drew and Brad might
have left.
Dear Liz – excellent take on the week’s events.
I would like to add Truth bomb #6 – Kristina has a serious mental health problem: she is a sociopath. That she could stand there so calmly and made herself the victim while lying shows IMHO that she has more than impulsiveness – she has serious issues. Alexis is conning herself that Krissy has changed – she just put her chameleon suit of victimhood on and Alexis fell for it. Her behavior in front of her victim, her intended victim and her sister shows me that Alexis should re-drew those papers, confront Krissy and throw her into Ferncliff with the court’s blessing. Krissy is a clear and present danger waiting to be set off by the next psychological crisis or insult.
This storyline is not one that should be drug out (like all the rest) – No one would fault Alexis for committing Krissy, once the truth is out – especially after that performance.
Oops – correction – Truth bomb #7. Sorry.
Moving Right Along (But Not Really),
My Opinions, jotted down as I viewed.
Any similarities to anyone else’s’ opinions is simple a matter or Great Minds Thinking alike.
I’m gonna repeat myself since these plotlines are Going Nowhere Fast:
When’s the Adult Baby Reveal going to be?
Is Gio gonna jump out of a Giant Blue Egg at the Nurses Ball?
Oy, between ShrewLu, Tracy and Lois, will SOMEBODY Spill the Tea??
~~~
Speaking of Spilling the Tea…
Ninny could redeem herself, in My Eyes, anyway, if she would just tell Willow the TRUTH about her Torrid Trysts with EwDrew!!
But, no.
The Writers Hate Us. We Can’t Have Nice Things.
And this Flaccid Story Line will go on Forever.
Willow has No Fans.
Drew has No Fans.
Why MUST we have them on our Screens constantly?
Can they both be kidnapped by Aliens or something??
There’s plenty of Rational Adults in PC who can look after the Kids!!
I’m sure if Brillo and EwDrew were Lost In Space, NO ONE would go looking for them!!
At least I wouldn’t.
~~~
Speaking of Lost In Space…
Dante blaming Gio for Rocco’s drunkenness?
It was Danny’s idea, and NO ONE poured Booze down Rocco’s Throat.
Danny told him “Just hold the cup!”
And we all know how that went.
Hey! I was Sixteen once, too.
As a Matter of Fact, I was Sixteen, Four Times!!
I never ended up in the Hospital from drinking, though I probably should have.
That’s why I Joined AA in 1990. and haven’t Consumed Alcohol since.
But that’s just me.
But I digress.
Hey Gio! Did anyone bother to tell you that Rocco is Your Brother??
Oh, and Dante, the cop who just yelled at you and blamed you for Everything, is your Daddy-O!!
Come on, Lois!! SPILL!!!!
I found myself feeling really bad for Gio.
The whole time he was Ripping Gio a New One, I was hoping Lois would knock Dante into next week.
Then, of course Lois would be arrested because Dante was in Total Insufferable Tool Mode.
~~~
I like the Anti-Emma and Gio together as Friends.
And I maintain that Emma would be a Far Better WSB Agent than Barbie (Joss).
Like her Grandma, she’s got that Emma Peel Quality (Pun Intended).
Though it might be Pretty Cool if Emma and Joss ended up working together to defeat the Evil Professor (Animal Cruelty) Dalton.
~~~
Brad and EwDrew.
It’s like a Despicable Stew!
Yuk.
Brad’s an Idiot.
He told Drew it was Portia BEFORE Drew paid him the Truth Money.
Duh.
~~~~
Omg I Absolutely LOVE that Stuffed Doggo that Cody bought Rocco.
I want one.
~~~
You know, that’s Pretty Amazing that they’re trying to get Kai to walk about Twenty Minutes after his Magic Major Spine Surgery!!
I had my L4 & L5 taken out, repaired, put back in place with a Bone Graft (I have Dead People in me) and a Titanium Cage in 2018.
It was a Thirteen Hour Surgery, started by cutting me open in the front, pushing Major Organs and Arteries aside to work on my Spine via my Abdomen,
then sewing that up, ::flipping:: me over, and then going in Via my Back.
Some Fourteen Hours Later, I was awoken, given pain meds, etc.
There’s NO WAY someone has Spine Surgery, and gets up and walks within days, never mind hours.
I still have my walker from that surgery, in my bathroom, to help me stretch when I get out of bed.
Granted, I’m No Spring Chicken, but let’s be Real here.
Once again, I’m on a Tangent.
~~~
Boy oh boy. Dante is being a Major Jerk Face Tool.
Now he runs to Sonny to blame Gio for Everything Wrong In the World.
I was hoping Sonny would smack Dante in the head and tell him to “Shaddaap!”
Say, where’s Baby Face Finster (Ace) been while all this was going on??
Where’s he been at all of late?
I’m surprised Ace wasn’t at the PCU Bonfire with Danny and Rocco! He’s probably old enough by now.
Where’s Leo been hiding out?
I’m sure the Q’s could use some of his Wisdom right about now.
~~~
If anyone cares, ShrewLu has yet to make the Opening Credits.
Does anyone care about his whole Sidwell/Sonny/EwDrew/Cutis/Porthole/Etc. Shenanigans?
Because I don’t.
Even Tracy can’t hold my interest in the Tedious , Nonsensical, Fragmented Story Line.
The only thing that interests me right now is How Gio is going to react when he discovers the TRUTH.
And you know he will, but WHO is gonna Spill the Tea????
What was in that Vial that EwDrew showed Brillo?
Sure, he picked up an Unmarked Vial of Liquid Vitamins from the GH Pharmacy in a Ratty Manilla Stash Envelope.
And Brillo the Twit, a Supposed Medical Professional, isn’t suspicious.
You know what I’d like?
I’d LOVE if Liesel would return and Belt Out some Tunes from Cabaret at the Nurses’ Ball.
While she’s there she can remind Everyone that it was HER Bone Marrow that saved Willow’s Sorry Life while Drew was passed out next to a Styrofoam Rock in Greenland (and Holly rescued HIM!!)
We Want Frau Blรผcher Back!!!
What makes you think Willow finding out Nina and Drew hate sex a few times (as two single people) and haven’t had hate sex in almost a year is the key to breaking up Drillow? This isn’t in the Top 5 of the things he’s lying to her about (when they are a couple) and he’s shown her he isn’t a good man. Nina telling Willow reached it’s expiration date of mattering. Drew is betraying her now. He didn’t betray her then. They were single. No feelings involved. It’s nothing.
Maybe Sidwell’ s offer to Sonny is a way to get Sonny and Jason out of the Mob. Jenz could be the new mob boss in Port Charles.
Sonny and Jason got “out” once before and the citizens of PC were begging for them to come back as the “new” mobsters were exorting businesses for “protection” and dealing drugs.
Two people Gio โbelievedโ were his parents? No. They were his parents. Adoptive parents are parents. (Although the dad may have died before Gio was adopted, so he may have never officially been his dad.)
Gioโs โfatherโ didnโt die. He was fake, made up to cover for the adoption. Gio only thinks he died. I suppose that could create some issues for him; but I find it hard to believe Gio spent too much time thinking about fake dad. If he had, he would have asked questionsโฆand that story would not have held up under even the slightest scrutiny.
I agree Gioโs adoptive mom (Camille?) was his mom. Except for being liar, she seems to have been a very good one. She raised a sweet, level headed, industrious kid. I LOVE the 5-5-5 rule. It makes me not have a problem with Brooklynโs choice to go with adoption whether it was fair to Dante or not. I guess Iโm OK with Lois too up until the point Gioโs mother died which changed everything. So many of the adoption stories on GHโthough granted, many have not been legalโhave been disasters, Iโm glad one involves a capable, loving parent.
Happy Motherโs Day to all the moms reading here! RIP Denise Alexander who played one of GHโs best mothers. Please, please to TPTB: put her picture on the GH wall right next to Monicaโs.
Camilla’s husband died before Gio was born, so was not a part of Gio’s life other than stories that Camilla shared.
I was not trying to minimize Gio’s love for Camilla, I was just making the point that everything Gio believed to be true was a lie, and that’s exactly how he’s going to see it when he learns the truth.
Drew needs to check his facts. He told Portia that without Sonny, there would be no Cyrus, who would then have never been able to be a threat to Trina. Last I checked, Cyrus’s initial introduction into the show was because he was going after the undercover DEA agents that put him away on falsified evidence. This included Jordan, and Trina’s then father, Marcus. Cyrus first went after Trina, because of her connection to Marcus.
What an excellent comment. Great recollection! Unfortunately, I donโt believe the writers know GH history as well as the fans do.
You are correct! ๐
Liz, I just saw that you tweeted that drew is disgusting to weaponize Michaelโs hospitalization against him and I agree. However, it does bother me that Michael hasnโt talked to the kids at all since he was hospitalized. What do you think of that?
That’s not accurate. Even Willow acknowledged that Michael has talked to the kids in video chats with Kristina. He just didn’t go through Willow to have those chats. I wouldn’t either.
Not a fan of the Joss in WSB storyline at all. There will be a predictable blow up with Carly, then what.
