Trouble is brewing in Port Charles. Will Lulu figure out Lois’ dirty little secret? Can Sonny hold onto his piers — and power — or will fate force him into retirement? Will Willow regret signing Drew’s parental guardianship papers? It’s time to dive into all the red flag warnings of imminent danger in an all-new General Hospital commentary for the week ending April 18, 2024.
I’ve come to the conclusion that everyone in Port Charles is color blind because I’ve never seen so many people willfully ignore all the red flags fluttering around their heads. Top of the list of people who have zero sense of impending doom, or a smidgen of common sense is our newly crowned village idiot, Willow.
No rest for the wicked, especially on General Hospital
Willow truly is an imbecile. That’s the kindest thing I can say about her these days. She is blinded by lust, which means red flags appear green to her. The man she loves is an illusion because he only exists in their carefully crafted bubble. The real Drew has thrown away all of his friends through lies and betrayals, his family has disowned him for similar reasons, and he’s a complete failure as a congressman. Instead of working in Washington, D.C. serving on committees, toiling away on legislation — and voting — he’s at home scheming against enemies of his own making.
Despite all of that, Willow sees Drew as a heroic figure. She actually believes that he was justified in weaponizing the remains of his dead relatives — including his father and siblings — to punish Tracy. It’s shameful. Willow is easily manipulated with romantic drivel and self-serving lies. She also thrives on playing the victim. In that regard, she’s exactly like her twin, Nelle. Willow’s predicament is of her own making too, and she deserves every bit of misery coming her way. Unfortunately, her kids are also likely to pay a price for their mother’s poor choices.
Good foresight or evil masterplan?
One of those poor choices was Willow’s decision to sign Drew’s legal document appointing him legal guardian to the children if anything should happen to Willow. Even if Drew were on the up-and-up, which he most certainly isn’t, it would have behooved Willow to proceeded with caution. She should have had a lawyer look things over for no other reason than to make sure it couldn’t be used against her in the custody hearing.
As soon as Drew produced those papers, I knew he’d been plotting this for some time. This was part of his masterplan. I’m certain of it. Drew had vowed to destroy Michael and take everything that Michael held dear away from him. Willow sealed her fate. I fully expect something to happen to her and for the guardianship to come into play.
Side note: I saw this great clip of Cameron Mathison on LIVE with Kelly and Mark talking about Drew — and another character he played on All My Children. A nice reminder that Cameron is nothing like Drew — or Ryan Lavery.
Love is not enough
I have no doubt that Willow loves her children, but she is not a good mother. For months, I’ve been watching her put herself first. She made no real effort to stay away from Drew. Willow is drawn to the forbidden — likely because of her upbringing in a cult — so the lure of a scandalous liaison was catnip to her. She has put her emotional needs ahead of Wiley and Amelia, and she is more focused on starting a life with Drew than doing what’s best for her children.
Wiley and Amelia have bounced around from one home to the next since Christmas, all the while not seeing their father or even being told what was really going on with him. In her mind, the kids are fine because they love Drew. It’s ridiculous. Michael still has custodial rights, and it is past time that they were asserted. Willow needs a taste of her own medicine.
No more Sonny days on General Hospital?

It seems like everyone is gunning for Sonny these days. Someone set a firebomb in his penthouse that seriously injured his son, Drew is colluding with Ezra Boyle to seize the piers, and now Natalia has betrayed his trust and told Jenz about Sonny’s heart issues. Oh, and there’s a new A.D.A who is eager to make a name for herself by taking down the great and powerful Sonny Corinthos. On top of all of that, Sonny needs surgery.
Sonny was a fool to ever trust Natalia. She’s been a walking red flag since her arrival. He should know that she no longer has any reason to guard his secrets, which means the cat will soon be out of the bag. I just don’t understand why Sonny doesn’t see his health issues as fate giving him an opportunity to bow out. Months ago, Sonny and Jason talked about taking steps to retire from the mob. Sonny had hoped to pass the reins to Jason, but Jason made it clear that he couldn’t take them because he was Danny’s only parent. I would think, given that conversation and Sonny’s heart troubles, that the time to announce his retirement was now.
Sonny could turn everything over to Selina Wu and let her and Jenz battle it out.
A new era for General Hospital
I think it would be fascinating to see Sonny and Jason explore a new path. They still have their coffee business which will keep them on the piers and in the thick of things if danger should lurk. However, instead of being part of the criminal activity, Sonny and Jason could be the first line of defense by helping Anna and Mac root it out the evildoers.
I have a feeling that Jenz will give everyone a run for their money because he’s had nefarious intentions written all over him since day one. Contrary to what Marco believes, Jenz is not a good guy. Viewers saw exactly what Jenz was capable of during his days in Africa. Jenz has an agenda, and it’s for certainly not good for the people of Port Charles.
I would love to see everyone team up to run Jenz out of town. He can take that backstabbing Natalia with him.
Alexis jumps from the frying pan into Ava’s fire
Last week, I blasted Alexis for conspiring with Diane to thwart Ava’s blackmail scheme by having Kristina committed before Kristina could be arrested for three counts of attempted murder. In the end, Alexis chose not to commit Kristina, but she made the situation worse by agreeing to Ava’s demands. Alexis funneled money out of Ace’s trust fund and into an offshore account. Foolish woman. Ava made it clear that she intends to milk Alexis dry.
This will blow up in Alexis’ face. Unfortunately, I fear that Molly will be the one to pay the highest price.
General Hospital history
I like Marcos Rios, but I found his conversation with Alexis a bit silly when he tried to defend representing his father, Jenz Sidwell, by pointing out that Alexis’ clients are criminals too. That’s generally how it works, Marco. Criminals hire criminal defense attorneys.
Also, for context, Alexis did not adopt the “Davis” surname to hide her Cassadine roots. Her birth name was Natasha Alexandria Mikkosovna Cassadine, but it was changed after Helena murdered Alexis’ mother. Helena had used the same deadly dagger that Jenz had recently offered to return to Alexis. Mikkos was furious with Helena, so he decided to rename his young daughter “Alexis Davidovitch” and raise her as the orphaned daughter of a distant Cassadine relative. It was Helena’s punishment for murdering Mikkos’ beloved mistress. Eventually, Alexis chose to anglicize Davidovitch to Davis.
Alexis grew up in a den of vicious vipers. It was so much more complicated than Marcos’ relationship with Jenz.
Chase-ing a dream
Chase’s desire to be a father hasn’t changed, but it’s taking a different path. He and Brook Lynn decided that they would adopt. More importantly, they will be open to whatever child finds their way to them, whether that child was an infant, a toddler, or even a teen. I love that so much. Being a parent isn’t about biology; it’s about love.
Our orphanages and foster care systems are filled with children of all ages in need of a good loving home.
Of course, viewers know that Chase and Brook Lynn will get their wish sooner rather than later when Lulu connects the dots. It’s not going to be hard for Lulu to figure things out because Lois practically oozes proud Nonna vibes whenever she is near Gio. Lois also gets a panic-stricken expression every time Gio talks about his mom.
I can’t help but worry how Chase might react to the news. My gut tells me that the reason he was so eager to keep Brook Lynn’s secret was because he felt threatened by Dante. A part of him resents that Dante was able to give Brook Lynn what Chase never could. I get it. He’s still struggling to come to terms with his infertility. But still waters run deep. Someone like Chase is bound to go dark sooner or later.
It wouldn’t be General Hospital if there wasn’t that potential.
Bad Nonnas
Lois and — to a lesser degree — Gloria will each need to work hard to atone for their sins. The moment Brook Lynn expressed an interest in finding her son, they both owed her the truth. Instead, both mother and grandmother talked Brook Lynn out of it. It was such a red flag because both women have always bent over backwards to indulge Brook Lynn, even some of her worst impulses. Brook Lynn should have known something was up.
I adore Lois, but I’m so frustrated with her right now. Lois knows where her grandson is, and she gets to spend time with him whenever she wants. She’s never had to go without being a part of his life, even if she couldn’t publicly acknowledge that Gio was her grandson. Lois never had to wonder how Gio was doing or try to envision what he looked like. She never had to worry if he was okay or had a happy childhood. Lois even had the opportunity to have a close and loving relationship with him knowing that he was her grandson.
Brook Lynn was denied most of that. Lois and Gloria know that they would have to expose their own dirty little secret if they were to tell Brook Lynn that Gio was her son. If they admit to what they had done, Brook Lynn would rightfully feel betrayed. Gio too. They’d rather protect themselves than do right by Brook Lynn, Gio, and even Dante
General Hospital Quick Takes

Professor Dalton (Daniel Goddard) gave off such a creepy vibe when he offered Emma an opportunity to intern for him over the summer. I couldn’t even enjoy Josslyn’s surprise when he curtly blew Joss off.
I love Lucas! One of my favorite scenes this week was his visit with Carly to tell her about Marco’s encounter with Jason. After Carly told Lucas about Jenz’s little crime spree and assured him that Jack had quietly taken care of everything, Lucas had the perfect response. “”Oh, Jack took care of it.” Well, then I guess everything is good now, ” Lucas said in a delightfully sarcastic tone. I cracked up. Van Hansis is absolutely wonderful in the role, and I so enjoy seeing Lucas match Carly’s energy.
Why did I picture Tracy’s steed as a feisty black stallion? Not in a million years would I have guessed that gentle white horse with brown patches, which Cody rode in on, was the infamous Hades.
What General Hospital viewers are saying
Willow’s inability to see Drew’s true nature
“Liz, Ninaโs grown on me too, but I partially blame her for Willowโs blindness of who Drew really is. If Nina had told Willow the truth months ago about her and Drew, Willow wouldnโt be as entrenched with him as she is now. Now, I think itโs too late. — Ryan
Sasha’s decision to let Jason play father to her unborn child
Finally, I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter weekend.
Happy viewing,
Liz
Willow’s idol worship of Drew isn’t even totally logical because yes, he did go to Greenland to bring back her donor, but he isn’t the one who saved her life. Liesl was the one who donated part of her body to save Willow. Liesl should be her hero, the one she s eternally grateful for.
Nor did Drew do anything special on the island. All the others did more to defeat Victor than Drew did.
I thought GH was pretty boring this week. I don’t have any interest in any story involving Kristina, BLQ and her baby, Deception ( it just means more Lucy) but that’s what we keep getting.
Didn’t Deception just get their first shipment of “zincite” this week? Yet, somehow the wrinkle cream that it is used in is already flying off the shelves.
They can’t seem to get Sonny’s heart condition straight. At times they’ve implied he needed a pacemaker, which is an in and out procedure as Sonny said to Carly, but at other times they imply it is more serious as when Natalia told Sidwell that Sonny needed open heart surgery. The title of the show is “General Hospital”.
One would think that they could be a little more specific.
This “esplanade” story doesn’t make much sense. An esplanade is supposed to be an open space area. The use of eminent domain to seize Sonny’s properties would hardly apply for what is basically a public park. It is not critical infrastructure like a highway ( which we’ve yet to see in PC), school or hospital. In addition to having to spend significant money fighting Sonny in court, the city would still have to pay Sonny market value for his properties. Why do that when the city already has a property for the project?
We’re all wondering about Drew. Is he Shiloh? I don’t know about the timing. Shiloh was dispatched in 2019
and supposedly his body was recovered and autopsied. When did Drew suddenly change? Most say this happened after the prison beating, but I thought he changed right after Jason returned. The first thing that he did was break up with Carly for no other reason except that he couldn’t accept Jason in Carly’s life.
Drew broke up with Carly shortly after getting out of the hospital from his beatdown in Pentonville, so that timing tracks.
You are correct about Shiloh — he was supposedly killed and his body recovered/autopsied, but there are ways around that, especially when you have a helping hand from the Cassadines. At the time, Victor was still in play.
There may be merit to the suspicions that Drew is not DrewโI canโt think of any other reason his medical records will be important. Sorry to say, I still hate it. Mostly because that means once they get rid of fake Drew, theyโll have to bring back real Drew. And I just want the character GONE. Iโm sure CM is a very nice person, and I am truly sorry about his house. But he has other work, and they tried him as nice Drew. Wasnโt interesting which is why he became angry Drew then scumbag Drew. I liked Billy Miller in the role a lot, but the show struggled with what to do with him as soon as Steve Burton came back and Drew became Drew instead of Jason. If you canโt figure out how to use a character in 8 years (since 2017, right?), maybe itโs time to just close out his history on the show.
Also gives me the heebie jeebies to think this guy who is raising Scout isnโt her father. Not that itโs great even if he is her father, but if heโs Shiloh or some other weirdoโฆyikes! Creepy
There’s definitely a reason Portia is looking at Drew’s medical files. Billy Miller’s Drew had plastic surgery and injuries from being hit by a car so she could compare his medical records from early on to the records from the prison beating. Billy Millers’ Drew had a very nuanced personality where as CM’s Drew really lacks depth. As you pointed out, he’s sacchrining nice ,then angry, then scumbag. He also knows too much about Quartermain family history. Where did that come from? Not from Jason thru the memory transfer because Jason lost all his memory from before the accident. I think that you’re right and the writers don’t know what to do with the character which is a chronic condition. They keep writing themselves into corners.
I agree about the slow week. GH has a pacing problem. There are a number of storylines with explosive potential, but they need to move them along. Are May sweeps still a thing? Maybe things are in a holding pattern until then. Gio’s parentage reveal and Drew’s downfall can’t take too much longer. So I’m guessing those will blow up first.
I’m think someone on the writing staff just likes the word esplanade. Can’t say I blame them, it’s a good sounding word.
Greetings, Earthlings!
Felicitous Celebration of Whatever It Is Y’All Celebrate this Weekend!
Me? I’m working Overnight in the ER both Saturday and Sunday.
Good Times.
::Ahem::
Just when you thought they couldn’t make Drew more Hateful….
This Ridiculous Document regarding Guardianship of Brillo’s Brood that Shiloh, I mean Drew had drawn up for Brillo (I call her that because her Head is evidently filled with Steel Wool), supposedly by “A Lawyer”: You can see her looking pensive, then as if a ::SWITCH:: went off in What’s Left of her Brain, she’s suddenly in Stepford Wife Mode, happily signing these “Documents”…
Um.
Shouldn’t there be a Lawyer present? A Legal Witness? A Notary Public?
A Postal Worker? Somebody?
This is Stupid.
~~~
NewEmma’d be a far better WSB agent than Joss, but I guess they’re only hiring Blondes these days.
Vaughn looks like he came straight from the Blonde Dude Assembly Line, right after the Late NotJagger Jingleheimer Cates!
(Perhaps he’s a ShapeShifter!! No, wait, that was “Fringe”, a much more believable show!)
Plus, I used to LOVE The Avengers (Emma Peel)!
Secret Agent Man!!
The Man (and Girl) From U.N.C.L.E.
And, of course, Get Smart.
The Writers need to go to MeTV and start watching these shows!!!
That being said, I don’t trust this College Professor Dude any more than I’d trust Sidwell, EwDrew, or Sid’s Son, Marco Polo.
~~~
Alexis is an Idiot.
Listen to Diane!!
Sign the Commitment Papers!!!
Argh!!
I’d still love to see NutKrissy in Jail.
~~~
I maintain that someone installed bits of either Faison’s or Shiloh’s Brain into Drew’s Giant Head while he was enjoying one of his Imprisonments.
Just when you thought he couldn’t get any worse, he’s got that Slimeball Steve Bannon Doppelganger under his Slimy Thumb.
Ew.
~~~
I thought Jordan *told* Mayor Laura she was going to be resigning in order to get closer to Sidwell.
Why are they now acting as if she was Blindsided?
~~~
Rocco has to be The Most Mature Person of Any Age (what is he, 16?) in Port Charles.
His concern for Grandma Mayor Laura being seen with Sonny at his Debate, and the fact that he was HONEST with Sonny was Refreshingly Awesome.
Perhaps the Adults of PC can learn a lesson from this kid.
Oh, and, Olivia?
SHADDAAAAPP!!
~~~
The whole scenario with Molly’s Flat, and Cooty the Village Idiot riding up on His Steed was very Contrived and Predictable.
I have to admit I thought Cooty and Molly were cute on Hades.
Though I really think that Cooty and NuLulu would be a better fit.
BTW, where IS TJ??
~~~
The Actor(s) playing Donna is(are) too cute.
She really does look like Sonny a bit, except way more attractive.
(Are they still using twins at this age? I know I could look it up, but what fun would that be?)
~~~
Joss was such a Mean Girl to Newly Painted NewEmma at GH.
And why was Professor Shifty there in the Hospital, and what’s in the Aluminum Briefcase?
~~~
They keep talking about “Robert’s Absence” and how ADA Turner wouldn’t be after Emma to get to Anna “if Robert were here”.
I do hope TR is Okay. He was looking a bit Frail the last I saw him.
I’m no fan of Natalia, however, LooseLips Coe has Some Nerve, Wildly Flapping her Giant Hands in Natalia’s Face just because Mami Dearest failed to mention that she used to be married to Zippy The Pinhead, oops I mean Sidwell.
Of course, she’s jealous.
Loosely Coe is a Sixty-Six Year Old Mean Broad.
Heck, she makes Tracy look like Mary Poppins.
And she wonders why her Relationships always go South.
I agree, Lulu and Cody are a better fit — and a soapier couple — than Cody and Molly. They have friend chemistry, but I don’t see romance.
I’ve been wondering. If Robert is gone, who is the Interim DA?
Thank you for manning the hospital on your holiday weekend! Health care workers are heroes.
Happy Easter to all!
Totally agreeBlog Comment Creation that Willowโs judgment is clouded โ itโs like sheโs actively ignoring the glaring mess Drew has become. Itโs wild how everyone in Port Charles seems to operate in their own little fantasy worlds, even when the warning signs are practically screaming. Iโm curious to see how long this illusion lasts before reality crashes in.
I hope for not much longer. I really can’t stand to see Drew on my screen anymore because he’s such a despicable character. Same with Willow.
Pingback: General Hospital Commentary: The devil we know - Dan J Kroll
Totally agree that Willowโs judgment is seriously impaired right now โ her blind trust in Drew is baffling, especially given how far heโs fallen from grace. Itโs like sheโs clinging to a fantasy version of him while the real guy is spiraling. If this isnโt setting up for a major heartbreak, I donโt know what is.
I agree that Willow is blinded by love, but it’s also fascinating to see how Drew’s character continues to unravel. I can’t imagine how much worse things will get for them once the truth finally comes out.
