The first wave of nominations for the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmys have been announced.
It’s officially Daytime Emmy season, even if it’s come a little later than in years past. Earlier this year, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) shifted its awards calendar. The Daytime Emmys, which have typically taken place on or around Father’s Day weekend in June, were pushed back to a fall date. The News and Documentary Emmys, which had been a fall fixture, were moved up to midyear.
As has been the case over the past several years, primetime entertainment news programs were given the chance to get a jump start on the nominations. Four awards categories were announced Wednesday, July 9, on Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, Extra, and E! News. The remaining categories will be announced at 12pm Eastern on Thursday, July 10.
In a surprising twist, there were just three soaps nominated in the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series category — Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless. Last year, there were six nominees for the first time since 1989 — the three traditional network soaps, Peacock’s DAYS, Amazon’s reboot of the Australian soap Neighbours, and The Bay.
This year, none of the streaming soaps made the cut. It’s unclear if the shows did not submit or if the ranking system used by the Daytime Emmys eliminated the two shows from receiving a nomination. The Bold and the Beautiful, meanwhile, didn’t make the cut first the first time since 2012.
Beyond the Gates was not eligible for this year’s Emmys as the eligibility date spanned from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. Beyond the Gates debuted in February 2025 and therefore will not be eligible until next year’s awards.
The 52nd Daytime Emmy Awards will be held October 17, 2025. So far there has been no official venue for the ceremony or broadcast partner announced.
