How will she keep Drew from exposing her deadly secrets? What will Chase do, now that he has figured out Brook Lynn’s plot to frame Willow? Will he choose Brook Lynn or Willow? With Jason poised to return and new faces coming to Port Charles, change is in the air. Let’s get into a wonderfully soapy General Hospital commentary for the week ending July 10, 2026.

What a fantastic week to write a General Hospital commentary. The fallout from the conclusion of several big storylines continues, and it’s everything that I could have hoped for. More in fact. We are always quick to give the writers flack when things don’t go the way we like, so I want to give praise for all the wonderful things that Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte have done right. Every single episode for the past two weeks has been superb. Marvelous. Perfectly soapy.

The show has been so good that even my husband — who considers the General Hospital hour his nap time — has actually watched a few of the episodes. He liked all the action with John Oliver (Z), Cullum, and Sidwell. I did too, but I’m going to start where General Hospital ended on Friday, July 10.

Tick Tock, Killow

Willow is running out of serum and time. Not only that, but Elizabeth is thisclose to figuring things out. I would love for Liz to be the one to expose Willow for the duplicitous shrew that Willow is, but I don’t think it will unfold like that. Brennan threw Willow a bone by telling Liz that he’d been exposed to some WSB toxin that had induced his stroke and temporary locked-in syndrome, so his condition was completely unrelated to Drew’s. I wanted to throw something at my television when he credited Nina for saving him when the delayed effects of the toxins had kicked in.

Shockingly, earlier Brennan had told Willow and Nina that the WSB was actually happy with Willow in Congress. What?! Isn’t the WSB supposed to be all about world security? It’s in the name! How is a homicidal lunatic like Willow a good choice for congresswoman? She not only shot Drew twice in the back, but she’s been injecting him daily — multiple times a day at that — with a potentially deadly serum that keeps him a prisoner in his own body. That is diabolical!

<s>Mother</s> Enabler of the Year

Then there’s Nina! Admittedly, I am not a fan. The last time that I actually liked Nina was back when Michelle Stafford played her, and Nina was dating Franco. Over the years, Nina has done one thing after another that made me grow to detest her. That mess in Nixon Falls, the way she continually tries to excuse/whitewash the horrific things that Nelle did, how she does the same with Willow, and her willingness to endanger her own sweet grandchildren to make Willow happy are just a few of the examples of why I think Nina is an awful person. The only thing that Nina cares about is being seen as a good mother. She desperately wants that recognition.

In Nina’s twisted mind, being a good mother means standing by her rotten children no matter what and doing everything in her power to spare them the consequences of their evil actions. She is the worst kind of enabler This week, Nina assured Willow that she had no problem bankrolling a life on the run with Willow, Wiley, and Amelia if it kept Willow from being carted off to jail for the slew of crimes that Willow committed. It’s shameful. Nina is more concerned about Willow’s happiness than the safety of the children — or their broken hearts when they are ripped away from the only stable parent they have.

I hope Nina ends up being charged with aiding and abetting since she was also injecting Drew with that serum.

Time’s Up

The signs have been there for weeks that things are soon coming to an end for Willow. Not only is Liz close to unraveling the mystery of Drew’s stroke, but too many people know the truth about who Willow really is. The only person who is completely oblivious is Chase, but I can’t see that lasting much longer either. If Chase doesn’t figure out for himself that Willow is a horrible person, Drew will be happy to enlighten him.

The Truth Shall Set You Free

I want Brook Lynn to be free of Chase. I’m completely over this toxic man. After Chase figured out that Brook Lynn had framed Willow for leaving the scene of Jordan’s crash, he confronted his wife. She quickly realized that he was more concerned about Willow than what had driven his wife to such desperate measures. Once again, Chase put Willow first and completely dismissed Brook Lynn’s worries. I’m glad that Brook Lynn called him out on it, but she remains blind as to why Chase keeps choosing Willow. He has romantic feelings for his ex-wife and loves being Willow’s hero.

Unfortunately, Brook Lynn can’t toss Chase out on his keester as he deserves because Phoebe’s adoption hasn’t been finalized. Right now, Chase doesn’t know that Brook Lynn was in the other car the night that Jordan crashed, but that secret is too explosive for the writers to keep buried much longer. No doubt, it will be the catalyst for Chase seeking comfort in Willow’s scheming arms.

Chase will eventually learn the truth about who Willow truly is, and when that day comes, he will realize that he threw everything — a loving wife and the family he always wanted — away for a woman who doesn’t know the meaning of love. When that happens, I hope Brook Lynn will be living her best life raising her daughter as a single mother.

Grandmother Knows Best

I want Brook Lynn to come out of this wiser — and to heed her shrewd grandmother’s warnings next time. I loved the scenes between Tracy and Brook Lynn when Tracy deduced that Brook Lynn had framed Willow. Trusting Lucy cost Brook Lynn half of her shares of Deception — and possibly Brook Lynn’s marriage. Tracy was spot on that Brook Lynn couldn’t have picked a worse person to help her. With Lucy’s help, Brook Lynn ended up devising a perfect plan to send Chase running to Willow’s rescue.

Now that Tracy knows how Lucy used Brook Lynn’s situation to her advantage, I would love to see Tracy and Brook Lynn team up and beat Lucy at her own game. I don’t want Lucy to get away with this stunt.

The Ex-Spy Who Loves Me

Valentin and Carly reunited — and it was so good. They ran into each other’s arms and shared a passionate kiss in General Hospital’s parking lot as Sonny, Lulu, and Charlotte looked on. Valentin was given a clean slate and a fresh start, so he can walk the streets of Port Charles a free man. I hope his first stop is to a realtor (Not Lucy) to buy Spoon Island and restore Wyndemere to its former glory.

Until then, I’m loving Valentin and Carly’s reunion. Contrary to what Josslyn and Brennan think, I don’t believe Anna will be an issue. Anna and Valentin ended long ago, and they both realized that a future together was never going to work. That is truer today than ever. Anna returned from France with Peter’s ghost haunting her because she’s still having trouble recognizing what’s real and what isn’t. Romance is the last thing on Anna’s mind.

Scarecrow and Frau Brutchess

I really enjoyed the scenes between Anna and Liesl. I had really hoped that Anna would take Liesl up on the offer to uncover the truth about what went down on Spoon Island because Cullum was definitely no hero. Then again, I realized that if Anna had actually helped Liesl clear Cassius’ name they would eventually uncover that he is in fact alive. The writers definitely don’t want that. At least not now. But I do wish that Anna had at least gone with Liesl to Spoon Island to see the message that Anna had left on the wall during Anna’s captivity there.

Is that what Josslyn sent Valentin to do? To tell Anna that Cullum had kept Anna locked up in the catacombs for weeks while he tortured Anna with the idea that Faison was alive. If so, Josslyn is a fool because it’s going to take a lot more than helping Anna heal to get Valentin to leave Carly. Also, if Valentin can figure out that Josslyn was behind his release, he will have no problem seeing through her plan to lure him away from Carly.

Frankly, I would love to see Anna and Liesl help each other. I love enemy-to-friends relationships.

Mommy, Dearest

Now, let’s talk about Lulu. It was quite an eye-opening week for her.

I had so much hope for Lulu’s return, in part because I thought Alexa Havins was a great casting choice. I wasn’t wrong. The problem isn’t Alexa. It’s the writing for Lulu. For some inexplicable reason, the powers that be at General Hospital have decided to make Lulu as unlikeable as possible. Months after waking up from a years-long coma, Lulu became romantically involved with her best friend’s ex-husband. Just because it was later revealed that Nathan was really Nathan’s identical twin Cassius, doesn’t minimize what many of us viewers saw as a betrayal of best-friend code. But it’s Lulu’s relationships with her children that has brought out the worst in Lulu.

Trust Is A Two-way Street

When Lulu woke up from her coma, one of the biggest shocks for her was seeing how much her children had grown. Both were teens not young children. Instead of getting to know the people they have become, Lulu seems to be trying to turn back time and mold them into the children she hoped to raise. There’s no doubt that Lulu fiercely loves her children, but she wants them to see her as the center of their universe. The parent they trust the most.

Yet, when Rocco and Charlotte do go to Lulu with a problem or confession, Lulu immediately flies off the handle and begins taking charge of the situation, which always includes lectures, new rules, and grounding without little input from them. Lulu also has a bad habit of alienating the kids from their fathers. With Rocco, she told Rocco not to tell Dante about shooting Cullum and even went so far as to make plans to go on the run with Rocco. And with Charlotte, Lulu constantly paints Valentin as evil incarnate.

Mirror, Mirror

Valentin was wrong for keeping Charlotte to himself for the first part of Charlotte’s childhood. No question. But that doesn’t make him any less important to Charlotte. Charlotte is fully aware of what her father did and loves him anyway. Lulu doesn’t have to like that, but she must accept it if she wants to have a good relationship with her daughter. All this animosity toward Valentin only drives Charlotte further way. Valentin wasn’t wrong when he warned Lulu that Charlotte would always choose him first. It sucks for Lulu, but it’s true.

Maybe, if Lulu stops trying to replace Valentin in Charlotte’s heart, she can earn a place next to him. Charlotte loves her mother, so Lulu is halfway there. As for Rocco, Lulu needs to stop treating him like he’s a five-year old. He’s more adult than child. He cares about Britt, and nothing Lulu does is going to change that.

Clash Of The Spencers

I’m not holding my breath about Lulu seeing Valentin in a different light any time soon. During Friday’s episode, Lulu marched over to Carly’s place in high dudgeon because Carly had facilitated several of Charlotte’s visits with Valentin during the months he was hiding out in Carly’s attic. It was nice to see Carly being brutally honest with Lulu about why she helped Charlotte spend time with Valentin. Even Carly knows much that girl loves her papa.

But Lulu tossed out her own truth bomb when Lulu pointed out that Carly was in no position to offer parental advice to Lulu since Josslyn had kept secrets from Carly too. Touché. Lulu isn’t wrong. Both Lulu and Carly have room for improvement.

Revenge not Justice

The same can be said for Curtis and Isaiah. Those two men are so messy.

Isaiah has enlisted Ric to file a civil suit against Curtis, and Portia is fully supportive of the decision. Meanwhile, Curtis is enlisting Martin’s help to be acquitted of the assault charges. Martin intends to argue that Isaiah intentionally provoked Curtis — which Isaiah did. Looks like the writers are teeing up to give both Isaiah and Curtis a win and a loss in court.

Curtis caused that accident. He is the one who kept distracting Jordan by pawing at her and trying to make out with her while she was driving. Jordan is also to blame because not once did she say, “Stop. I’m driving and you’re distracting me.” Instead, both were more focused on smooching than getting to their destination in one piece. Could Jordan have suffered less severe injuries if Brook Lynn had stopped and called 9-1-1? I don’t think so. Curtis was only out for a few minutes, and the fire ignited shortly before Valentin arrived on the scene and helped Curtis pull Jordan out.

All this speculation about getting Jordan help sooner is just that. Speculation. We don’t even know if fire and rescue would have gotten there before Valentin and Carly did.

Peace For The Sake of Family

Isaiah has every right to clear his name. He was not involved in Jordan’s accident. But he did have an affair with Portia, and he’s been low-key baiting Curtis ever since Isaiah hooked up with Portia. He knew that taunting Curtis by claiming he will be a better father to Curtis’ child than Curtis would push Curtis over the edge. Martin won’t have any problem proving that in court.

I wish both Curtis and Isaiah would put that baby’s welfare first. All this fighting and tension will not be good once that child is born. Even newborn babies can pick up on tension between adults.

I Can Feel It Coming In The Air

I’m not one to court spoilers. I enjoy trying to figure out the direction of the storylines and having the pleasure of picking up clues along the way. But it’s no secret that Steve Burton returns next week as Jason Morgan. Josslyn secured his freedom when she agreed to back Z’s story that Cullum was a hero who had foiled Cassius Faison’s evil plot. Of course, there are a whole host of people who know that isn’t true. Sidwell, Britt, Liesl, Dante, Lulu, Rocco, Valentin, Carly, Sonny, Laura…and the list goes on.

Another worst kept secret is that Josslyn is a WSB agent. I’m not sure how she is going to be able to go undercover unless it’s overseas because quite a few people in Port Charles know that she reports to the WSB.

What’s Next for Jason

Will Jason return and pick up where he left off? Danny has been a wreck without his father, and he’s been making one bad decision after another. His lack of impulse control even led to Scout following her brother’s bad example by making a reckless decision that left her injured. This week, Danny, in a desperate attempt to help Jason, told Brennan that Rocco had shot Cullum. I was so incredibly disappointed in Danny. Danny and Rocco are supposed to be as close as any two brothers by blood.

I want better for Danny, which means that I’m really hoping Jason finally does right by his son. Danny needs stability. I seem to recall both Sonny and Jason discussing retiring right before Sidwell blew into town. Will that be back on the table now that Sidwell has been vanquished?

A New Beginning for Drew?

I have no idea what General Hospital has planned for Drew’s next chapter, but I suspect that we will soon find out since Willow mentioned that he’s regaining movement faster between doses, and Scout was recently recast with an older actress. I despised Dark Drew, so I have zero interest in that version returning. That said, I definitely don’t want boring goody-goody Drew either. The one who fell in love with Carly and went to jail for her. Honestly, it would be interesting if Good Drew emerged from that locked-in syndrome, but with a dark edge.

I desperately want to see Willow pay for her crimes. Her world needs to burn down around her, and she needs to be left with nothing. What Willow did to Sasha, Michael, and to Wiley and Amelia (keeping them from their father and letting Drew fill their heads with cruel lies) and then trying to frame Michael for her crimes were all unforgiveable acts. The innocent people Willow hurt deserve justice. Drew destroying Willow would be such sweet karma.

A Few New Faces

During Thursday’s (July 9) episode, Lucy was on the phone with Serena about a potential new client in need of a realtor. Since we know Serena was recently recast with Kelly Kruger, I expect Serena to make appearance soon. If she does, her father Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) better be with her. I don’t care about Serena and Lucy’s first scene, but I do look forward to Serena meeting her newfound brother Cody Bell.

I’ve also seen reports about a few other casting additions who will soon be making their way to our screens, so it looks like they will be ushering in new storylines. I can’t wait to see what General Hospital has in store for us next.

Port Charles Potpourri

Some quick thoughts about other things going on in and around Port Charles.

Closure

I couldn’t understand why General Hospital would bring Vaughn back until he showed up at the hospital to talk to Josslyn. It was for closure. I really appreciated that scene between the two ex-lovers and their agreement that Brennan had been right to ship Vaughn off.

Look, Don’t Look

Poor Trina, no wonder she’s a mess. Kai pointing out to her that Portia and Isaiah were meeting with Ric then speculating about what they could be up to was baffling. I was like, “Dude, what are you doing?” If that wasn’t bad enough, as soon as Trina was ready to march over to confront Portia and Isaiah, Kai reminded Trina of the boundaries she had set for family drama. Well, then why did you bring it to Trina’s attention, Kai?!

An Open Door

I’m so excited that Z lied about Cassius being killed. General Hospital has left the door wide open for Ryan Paevey to return as Cassius Faison by having Z make Cassius an offer that Cassius would be a fool to refuse. I had been hoping that the writers would find a way to make Cassius a WSB agent, so I’m absolutely delighted with this development. Here’s hoping we see Z again too! He was wonderfully entertaining.

Line of The Week

Sonny to Carly (pointing at Valentin): “Carly, you know better than this. Since he’s arrived, every time he interacts with a character the look on his face is that of someone (like maybe a real detective) who has suddenly found himself dropped into Soapland and has no idea how he got there.” — Rachel

“I don’t know how much more that I can take of Chase, ”Congresswoman” Cain, every single Ashford and Lucy Coe. Please make it stop. Somehow, this unelected freshman congresswoman performs legislative miracles without ever having to set foot in Washington D.C.” — JDF

“I love Brook Lynn, but her plan was dumb. Chase already went to bat for Willow when it came to Drew’s shooting because he refused to believe that she was guilty. Why would she think that he wouldn’t do the same for another crime she’s being accused of?” — Kam

Danny Tells Brennan That Rocco Shot Cullum

Lulu’s Relationship With Her Children

Before You Check Out

Beyond the Gates was back with new episodes after a one-week summer break and Soap Central founder Dan J Kroll has a lot of thoughts — especially on that hilariously awkward flop of a marriage proposal.
