Will there be others making their way to the land of the living? Death is stalking the people of Port Charles as vendettas heat up and danger looms. Let’s get into it – and more – in an all-new General Hospital commentary for the week ending August 22, 2025.

This week, General Hospital kept viewers on the edge of their seats with some wonderful twists and turns. I love when the writers surprise us, which they did several times, especially on Thursday and Friday. Let’s kick things off in Croatia where the spy games have heated up in more ways than one.

Five poppies, two zombies, and three spies

The action is ramping up at the Five Poppies resort in Croatia where Jason and Britt finally locked eyes and reunited, Josslyn and VaughnDex hit the sheets, and Pascal got some revealing news from Colette. Will we finally learn the identity of “He/Him,” the mystery man behind Britt’s resurrection? Maybe next week, since all the players are in place and practically stumbling over each other.

I work with a dear lady named Laura who loves General Hospital almost as much as I do. She scours the Internet for spoilers then bounces them off of me to see if any of them have any chance of playing out. Recently, she saw a spoiler on a site she admittedly says posts the least reliable spoilers. Mostly theories as spoilers.

If you are spoiler free, please skip to the section about Drew because I reference the theory/rumor/spoiler in the next couple of sections.

To those still here, the claim is that Cesear Faison is alive and well living la vida loca in a secret hideout.

Poppy dearest

But wait, there’s more. Not only is Faison alive, but so are his sons Nathan and Peter. I initially dismissed this as poppycock until news broke that Ryan Paevy has returned to General Hospital. In fact, he’s already begun filming and his first scenes are set to air sometime in September.

Maxie’s collapse only added fuel to the fire, but not for the reason you would think. I don’t think we will get a visit from a ghostly Nathan. I’ll discuss Maxie in a bit. For now, let’s focus on Faison. It makes sense that he would want his brilliant daughter’s help if he’s working on something involving cold fusion. Is it a weapon? I have no idea, but if Faison is involved it can’t be good.

Could Faison be using Nathan to control Britt? Britt wouldn’t lift a finger to help Peter or Faison, but she could definitely be enticed to cooperate if she thought it would help Nathan.

Warning: Danger ahead for General Hospital

One thing seems certain, no one is safe in Port Charles. It’s clear that all of this is linked to Sidwell’s mission to dethrone Sonny and take over the piers. Does Britt realize that, or will Jason help her connect the dots? I can’t wait to find out. As Friday came to a close, Britt showed up on Jason’s doorstep. My hope is that we will finally get some real answers, and Britt will accept Jason’s offer of help.

Both are going to have to team up and rescue Josslyn and Vaughn.

Death becomes her – and him

I was so excited when Jason and Britt locked eyes, but my visions of a romantic reunion were quickly shattered with Britt’s frosty greeting when Jason showed up at her bungalow to talk. Britt was mad because Jason had let everyone – including Britt – mourn him, while he went undercover to save Carly from federal charges. You’d think Britt would be more understanding given her own situation.

I guess Britt is the only person allowed to fake her death and let people who care about her grieve her untimely passing. I love Britt, but she has no reason to be mad at Jason when she’s guilty of the very same thing.

Spies like us

Meanwhile, Agent Josslyn killed her first bad guy. She shot him as he tried to kill VaughnDex. Afterwards, she had flashbacks of shooting Cyrus dead. It was odd. She’s a spy, so killing the enemy is part of the job. I could understand if Josslyn had killed an innocent bystander, but that was not the case at all. The man was actively trying to kill her partner. It was absolutely the right thing to do. I expect that kind of reaction from a civilian not a spy.

If the writers want us to take Josslyn seriously, they shouldn’t make her look so weak. Also, I wasn’t a fan of how Josslyn and VaughnDex ended up in bed together. Trauma sex is not romantic. It made Vaughn look predatory for taking advantage of Josslyn during a very vulnerable moment. I would have preferred a more supportive approach like talking Josslyn through her feelings or comforting her without the sex. That’s how you build a connection and lay the foundation for a good soapy romance.

Time to call in the big guns

Brennan needs to get his spies in order if he hopes to keep Port Charles safe. He can start by enlisting Anna’s help. Not only has she returned from the dead a time or two, but she’s also a powerful ally to have. Anna has vanquished more than her fair share of villains over the years. Brennan is going to need all the help he can get because danger looms.

Has it already claimed a victim?

Sleeping Maximista

It’s clear that Maxie came into contact with the enzyme that triggered her heart attack when she rubbed cream on her face during her television appearance. When it happened, I recalled how positively giddy Sidwell had been in earlier scenes. At the time I had brushed off his eagerness to watch Lucy’s appearance as part of his crush on Lucy. But once I saw Maxie collapse, I realized there might have been another reason for Sidwell’s desire to watch Flora’s show. The man is a voyeur, and he has a particular fondness for watching his own dirty deeds unfold.

KATHLEEN GATI, KRISTINA WAGNER, and KIRSTEN STORMS
General Hospital | PHOTO: Disney/Bahareh Ritter

Did Sidwell know the cream was tainted? Was Maxie the intended target?

That brings me back to Faison and Peter. They are exactly the kind of men who would plot a stunt like that. Remember, Peter is Bailey Lou’s biological father. If he’s alive, he would stop at nothing to get his hands on that sweet child. The thought of Peter August’s face popping up on my television screen makes me want to scream.

I honestly don’t think I can handle watching both Drew and Peter running amok and wreaking havoc on people’s lives five days a week for months on end.

Oma to the rescue

Surprisingly, one of my favorite scenes this week was Liesl showing up at Maxie’s house and staying to help Lulu break the news to James that Maxie was sick. Lulu has been so annoying lately that I was somewhat shocked when she thanked Liesl for explaining things in a way that James could understand. The honest conversation that followed between the ladies was such a refreshing moment that I found myself getting all misty-eyed. I’m a sucker for frenemy relationships.

Building on that, Lulu reached out to Brook Lynn and extended an olive branch. Brook Lynn took it. It made me feel like the writers are listening to us. It also reminded me why both Lulu and Brook Lynn will always have a special place in my heart. I’ve watched these two ladies since they were babies. I have seen them struggle through adolescence, face devastating losses, find love, and evolve into the women they are today. They may vex me, but I will always root for them.

I can’t say the same for others on General Hospital.

Drew, the menace

I will never ever root for Drew. The man is pure evil, and someone needs to stop him before he further traumatizes Scout. Both Sidwell and Marco agreed that Drew is becoming a liability because they can see that he’s erratic. Drew is growing increasingly more desperate, especially when his efforts to take down his enemies fail. He has many, but at the top of the list are Michael and Curtis. To Drew’s frustration, Michael keeps coming out on top. I hope that continues because Drew and Willow are awful people who shouldn’t be anywhere near children.

Nothing was more satisfying than watching Drew sputter with outrage as his bogus assault charges against Michael fell apart. Drew’s eyes practically bugged out of his head when Chase revealed that none of the witnesses recalled seeing Michael punch Drew. In another blow, Martin cut ties with his best client because Drew refused to call the Feds off Stella.

I thoroughly enjoyed Drew’s rage as he tried to intimidate Justine with threats because she declined to arrest Michael. Drew had been outplayed and everyone in that squad room knew it. Unfortunately, my glee was short-lived because Drew slithered over to General Hospital to fill Willow’s ears with lies.

And of course, Willow believed Drew because he’s been nothing but honest with her from the start. 🙄

The cult of Drew

As I listened to Drew spin his web of deceit, I realized why Willow so readily bends to his will. He tells her things that validate her victim mindset. Willow lives in an alternate reality where she has done nothing wrong.

It’s why Willow was genuinely confused when Kristina asked why Willow would ask Kristina to testify on Willow’s behalf. Willow reminded her ex-sister-in-law that Kristina had been one of the few people to treat Willow with decency when things had fallen apart with Michael. “What choice did I have? You were withholding Michael’s treatment. I pretended…for his sake,” Kristina clarified. The look of utter shock on Willow’s face was comical. “You pretended?” Willow asked with disbelief. That’s how out of touch with reality Willow is.

I’m glad that Liz overheard Willow on the phone with Drew. I hate that my girl has been dragged into this mess because she had the misfortune of being Willow’s only remaining friend.

Romancing General Hospital’s lady justice

Sonny has been single since his divorce from Nina. He had a brief flirtation with Natalia, but it went nowhere mainly because Natalia turned out to be horrible person. But things are looking up. Recently, Acting District Attorney Justine Turner has caught his eye. Am I shocked? No, not at all. Sonny has two types: Carly Spencer and Brenda Barrett. Justine falls into the latter category.

Justine has been on the canvas for a while. Until this week, I was unsure of her. A part of me suspected that she was secretly in league with Sidwell because of her mission to take down Sonny. It bordered on obsessive, which raised red flags. I fully expected her to show up at Wyndemere at some point to report to Sidwell, but instead Justine turned up at Sonny’s place and stayed for his pizza.

The Dimpled Don strikes again

It turns out that Justine is the real deal. She truly does believe in law and order. She was outraged when she overheard Drew boldly blackmail Sonny into doing his bidding. Sonny sent Drew packing and promptly called Diane. Meanwhile, Justine paid Anna a visit and asked her to launch an investigation into Drew. It appears that Sonny’s infamous dimples did their job and won Justine over — to a degree. She still sees Sonny as a criminal, but she also sees his humanity.

There are sparks between Sonny and Justine, but I’m not sure either should act on them. Not yet anyway. I don’t want to see Justine fall in line with the rest of the women who got involved with Sonny. Women who have made compromises and sacrificed to be with him.

For once, I want Sonny to do the work. If Sonny wants to be with someone like Justine, then let him be the one to make the lifestyle changes. He’s been talking about retiring since he was diagnosed with heart issues, so it’s time to put up or shut up. Sonny and Jason need to find a successor.

Both men owe it to their children.

The tides of war

Curtis needs to stop being an idiot and join forces with Michael. Drew is not a man of honor, so he was never going to abide by a truce with Curtis. Curtis was a moron for thinking Drew would. Drew is a congressman, but he’s not invincible. Curtis and Michael have Aurora Media at their disposal and incentive to take Drew down. I want to see Curtis and Michael put their heads together and come up with a plan.

Drew won’t stop with Stella. Portia is going down too.

An affair of the heart

Stella’s legal woes are a harbinger of what’s to come, but instead of figuring out a path forward to keep Portia out of jail for a lengthy prison sentence both Curtis and Portia are courting disaster. Curtis is offering Jordan advice about her newly purchased home, while Portia is making friends with an admirer.

I love Isaiah, but he has no idea who Portia really is. He doesn’t know about her lies, her willingness to break the law and unethical conduct. Isaiah sees the face that Portia presents to the world, not the woman who at times is her own worst enemy. I hate to see such a good character with so much potential wasted on a character like Portia who has a habit of making all the wrong choices.

General Hospital Quick Takes

I’m old enough to remember when Max Giambetti took care of security at Metro Court and made sure to put security cameras everywhere including the restaurant and pool. Why hasn’t Diane asked for security footage from the restaurant to prove that Drew approached Wiley and upset that poor child?

Drew keeps talking about Michael’s prison sentence, while completely ignoring the fact he too spent time in jail not too long ago. To clarify, Michael had pleaded guilty to the involuntary manslaughter. The judge specifically noted that there had been no malice or premeditation, and that Michael had acted in defense of his sister when he killed Claudia. However, it was the cover-up that the judge had taken issue with. He had wanted to teach both Michael and all those who had participated in the cover-up a lesson.

I love that Molly’s new romance novel features the names of One Life to Live characters. Long live the Buchanans!

I ugly cried when Felicia talked to Anna about B.J. I still vividly recall Felicia’s devastation at realizing that Bobbie’s beloved daughter B.J. was Maxie’s heart donor, and Tony resting his head on Maxie’s chest to listen to B.J.’s beating heart. It was storytelling at its finest, and the performances by Kristina and Jack Wagner, Brad Maule and Jacklyn Zeman were powerful and gut-wrenching.

I like Flora, but I disagree with her assessment that Gloria was the driving force behind the decision to raise Gio in the family without Brook Lynn’s knowledge. It was a mutual decision. Lois wasn’t a child. She was a woman in her 30s with a pregnant teenager. Lois saw an opportunity to be a part of her grandson’s life, while technically abiding by Brook Lynn’s wishes. She knew it was wrong, which is why she kept her secret even when she realized that Brook Lynn might want to connect with her son.

What General Hospital viewers are saying

We love reading what other fans have to say about the show, so please scroll down to the Comments section and share your thoughts.
