Nominations for the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmys have been released. The Young and the Restless led the pack, with General Hospital nipping at its heels. But it’s two soaps lack of nominations that have fans talking.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

It’s officially Daytime Emmy season, even if it’s come a little later than in years past. Earlier this year, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS<\/strong><\/a>) shifted its awards calendar. The Daytime Emmys, which have typically taken place on or around Father’s Day weekend in June, were pushed back to a fall date. The News and Documentary Emmys, which had been a fall fixture, were moved up to midyear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As has been the case over the past several years, primetime entertainment news programs were given the chance to get a jump start on the nominations. Eight awards categories — four of them focused on soaps — were announced Wednesday, July 9, on Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, Extra<\/em>, and E! News<\/em>. The remaining categories were announced at 12pm Eastern\/9am Pacific on Thursday, July 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a surprising twist, there were just three<\/em> soaps nominated in the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series category — Days of our Lives<\/em>, General Hospital<\/em>, and The Young and the Restless<\/em>. Last year, there were six nominees for the first time since 1989 — the three traditional network soaps, Peacock’s DAYS<\/em>, Amazon’s reboot of the Australian soap Neighbours<\/em>, and The Bay.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, none of the streaming soaps made the cut. The Bold and the Beautiful<\/em>, meanwhile, didn’t make the cut first the first time since 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breaking down the nominations<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re wondering why there are just three nominees in the Drama Series category, NATAS explains it is due to the enforcement of a longstanding rule. In any category where there are fewer than ten submissions, no more than 50% of the submitted entries may be nominated. That means, if all of the aforementioned soaps did submit in the Drama Series category, the most nominees that could be expected would be three \u2013 or half of the six eligible programs. And you thought you wouldn\u2019t need math to watch the soaps!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is worth noting that Beyond the Gates<\/em> was not<\/em><\/strong> eligible<\/em><\/strong> for this year’s Daytime Emmys competition as the eligibility period spanned from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. Beyond the Gates<\/em> debuted in February 2025 and therefore will not be eligible until next <\/em>year’s Daytime Emmy awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

B&B<\/em>‘s woes were not confined to the night’s biggest prize. The only 30-minute soap and the world’s most watched soap opera was also shut out in nearly every<\/em> category. B&B<\/em> nabbed three acting nominations \u2013 two in the newly created Emerging Talent category and one in the Guest Performance field. The show also earned a technical nomination in the Outstanding Hairstyling and Makeup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Young and the Restless <\/em>earned the most nominations with 19. Ten of those nominations came in acting categories — with a whopping four<\/em> nominations in the Lead Actress category alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Hospital<\/em>, meanwhile, will be looking to complete a fivepeat. The ABC soap has been named Outstanding Daytime Drama series every year since 2021. GH<\/em> has earned top honors a record-setting 16 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Days of our Lives<\/em> had its best year in five years, earning nominations in nearly every category designed for just soaps. Curiously, the Peacock streamer did not earn a Lead Actress despite there being six nominees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What we know about the Daytime Emmys ceremony<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited to recognize the exceptional individuals and teams who make daytime television great every year and in some cases, every day,\u201d said Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS. He added, \u201cAs the Daytime landscape continues to expand, we\u2019re excited to introduce new categories to recognize the boundary-pushing work being done, and we\u2019re enthusiastic to convene with and celebrate the whole Daytime community in one ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 52nd Daytime Emmy Awards will be held October 17, 2025. So far there has been no official venue for the ceremony or broadcast partner announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are the nominees in all of the daytime drama categories as well as the Creative Arts categories where at least one soap is nominated.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
