Will Lois fess up that Brook Lynn and Dante’s son is closer than anyone realizes? Can Lulu keep her feelings for Dante under wraps while he’s grieving for Sam? Will Jason and Sasha correct Cody’s false assumption or use it to their advantage? Let’s discuss in this week’s General Hospital commentary for the week ending January 31, 2025.

Folks, lately secrets abound in Port Charles. There are so many that we need a flow chart to keep up with all of them — and who knows what. Let’s kick things off with the most recent skeleton to stumble out of the closet and enter the chat.

Oh, baby, baby

A few weeks ago, Sasha discovered that she was pregnant with Michael’s baby. She shared her news with a couple of people, but she was careful not to name the father. Luckily for Sasha, Michael agreed to let her raise the baby on her own because of the danger that Sonny’s lifestyle poses to all those near and dear to Sonny. It’s hard to argue with her logic, especially when Michael suffered catastrophic injuries in a blast intended for Sonny.

When Sasha was forced to announce that she was pregnant, Jason quickly deduced that Michael was the father. Did Tracy really see a mouse in the bookcase or was it some weird power flex? Who cares? It was a hilarious scene and it forced the secret out so I’m not mad.

After Sasha stormed out, Jason followed her to the boathouse where he confronted her with the truth. Sasha made it clear that she and Michael had reached an agreement regarding the baby, and that she didn’t need anyone’s help — especially Jason’s. In the very next breath, she felt the baby kick and before you know it, Jason had his hand on her belly and Sasha was gushing about how happy she was that he was there to share the wonderous moment. Unbeknownst to both, Cody had walked up and saw the entire exchange.

Will bad math lead to happily ever after?

Cody quickly proved that his math skills are utterly lacking. He put one and two together and came up with Jason is Sasha’s baby daddy. Sighs. How is this idiot Mac’s son?

Clearly, this is going to pave the way for Jason to claim the baby as his. Will romance soon follow as Jason and Sasha bond over the baby and the pressure to raise “their” baby together? Most definitely. It’s a soap.

We’ve seen this all play out before with Jason and Carly, and again with Jason and Sam. Playing house and pretend-daddy is Jason’s love language.

I’m not sure how I feel about Jason and Sasha as a couple. Like Drew and Willow, there’s a big age gap between them, but the ick factor isn’t there. Sasha isn’t in a committed relationship with another man much less Jason’s nephew. Also, Jason isn’t the type to aggressively pursue someone or manipulate them into his bed.

Time will tell if Jason and Sasha find romance together, but it’s doubtful they will be able to keep the baby’s paternity a secret for too long. That’s not how it works on soaps. The only long buried secrets are the ones that come out in revisionist history.

Confession is good for the soul, but seldom on General Hospital

That brings me to Brook Lynn’s recent revelation about the baby she gave up for adoption. For those who speculated all those months ago that Gio is Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, give yourselves a well-deserved pat on the back. You were right.

Brook Lynn and Lois confirmed through their conversation that Brook Lynn had Dante’s baby and gave him up for adoption without telling Dante about the pregnancy. She has kept this secret for over two decades. We also learned that Brook Lynn confided in Cody all those years ago, so he knew that Brook Lynn had been pregnant.

Why this was never mentioned before during any of Brook Lynn and Cody’s private conversations is beyond me. This is why I hate history being tampered with. Everyone looks bad here. Cody is a lousy friend to Dante, Brook Lynn is a coward and a liar, and Lois is equally deceptive because it’s clear that she never told Brook Lynn that Gio is the son that Brook Lynn gave up for adoption.

I feel sorry for Dante because he didn’t deserve any of this. He would never have let his son grow up without a father because Dante knows firsthand what that was like. I understand that Brook Lynn wasn’t ready to be a mother, but she took away Dante’s choice to raise their son as a single father. That’s not right.

Speaking of fatherhood, if I were Chase, I would get a second opinion from a fertility doctor. Why is he sterile? Did he have an illness or a birth defect that can be surgically corrected? General Hospital is filled with doctors who work miracles on patients. Just ask Lulu.

Sonny’s broken heart

Sonny decided the best course of action for his heart episodes was to visit a cardiologist in California. Good thing he has Dr. Maria Santos (shoutout to Arlene) accompanying him on the trip. Sonny doesn’t want his enemies to know that he has heart trouble, and he doesn’t want to worry poor unfortunate Kristina.

My dad died of congestive heart failure in 2019, so I know that early diagnosis and treatment can be the difference between life and death. I hate how Sonny is being so reckless with his health even though he already decided to retire from the mob. It makes no sense. It also annoys me to no end that Sonny would postpone a consultation with a specialist in order to coddle a woman in her 30s. No mention of Avery or Donna, who are young children and could possibly grow up without their father. No, it’s all about Kristina. It’s always about Kristina.

Every time I hear Sonny fret over Kristina’s delicate psyche, I dislike her a smidgen more.

Romancing the spy

In Baden-Baden, Germany, Valentin resurfaced. He slipped into Jack’s spa room and tried to strangle him as payback for Colette’s botched hit. Carly arrived just in time to save Jack’s life. After being felled by Carly, Valentin managed to escape. For her trouble, Jack gave Carly a big passionate smooch and opened a small vein of his own secrets.

Was Jack completely forthcoming? Doubtful. The man is a spy and suspicious by nature. However, I love Jack. He’s interesting, charming, and exceedingly handsome. I think Carly and Jack will be a good fit. Carly has always been drawn to dangerous men, so this is not new territory for her. Jack needs someone like that because he dabbles in some dark stuff.

I’ve always loved General Hospital’s grey characters, and Jack has quickly become one of my favorites.

General Hospital’s Demon of Death

Sam has been dead for months, and Portia finally got around to telling Anna that someone is murdering patients. I’m so frustrated with this storyline. If Portia (and Terry too for that matter) had gone to Anna earlier, Dex might still be alive, and Michael would have been spared unnecessary agony.

I don’t know how many people Cyrus has killed, but if anyone besides Dex Heller died, I hope their family sues General Hospital. It’s downright criminal that the hospital has kept the police out of the loop for all these months.

I also find it implausible that Alexis would have patiently waited this long to get the results of Sam’s autopsy. It’s not in her nature. She’s a mama bear to her core. Why wasn’t she hounding Portia for answers and camping outside the lab?

I’m further mystified how it’s possible for Cyrus to move through the hospital — repeatedly — disguised as a doctor without it being caught on security cameras? Especially now that Portia and Anna have a suspect in mind. Even if Cyrus paid someone to erase the footage, Anna’s tech experts should be able to quickly determine that the footage was tampered with.

No honor for a fallen officer

I work with a wonderful lady named Laura who watches General Hospital. She asked why Dex was not given a proper funeral, and why Josslyn — of all people — was in charge of settling his affairs. Did anyone even notify Dex’s family that he’s dead? Excellent questions that many of us have asked in the wake of Dex’s murder.

General Hospital writers have always given fallen police officers (except those who acted dishonorably) a proper send off. Yet, Dex got nothing. Not even a memorial service.

My friend Laura also wondered why Dex rooted for the Llanview football team rather than the Port Charles University Tigers. Did Dex grow up in Llanview? An intriguing question that got me to thinking.

What if Dex did grow up in Llanview and was connected to one of the prominent families there? That would be an amazing twist. I know that Dex is dead, but it would be an opportunity to bring someone from Llanview to Port Charles. Perhaps one of his brothers?

I know Dex said that his brothers were violent and bullied him, and that his father was abusive too, but what if all of that was a carefully crafted lie to hide a bigger secret? What if Dex was really a Manning, Lord, or Buchanan who had cut ties with his family? Being Todd Manning or Victor Lord Jr.’s son would be a lot for anyone to handle. By weaving the story of an abusive family, it would have given Dex the excuse he needed to maintain his distance from his family.

That said, there are laws. When someone dies, the next of kin is usually notified. Josslyn was not Dex’s next of kin. Dex’s parents were his next of kin.

Time for a new police commissioner

I love Anna, but I don’t respect her much these days. She is a piss-poor police commissioner. The writers need to stop making her look so completely inept at her job.

The idea that someone has to report a kidnapping, which was flagrantly executed in broad daylight on the grounds of the Quartermaine estate in front of a witness is mind boggling. I don’t care if Anna had agreed to keep things on the downlow, while Jason was off rescuing Sasha. Once that warehouse blew up, it should have been an official investigation that included Sasha’s kidnapping and narrow escape from certain death. There should have been charges filed, ready and waiting for when Sidwell resurfaced.

It’s preposterous that someone like Sidwell can be free to walk the streets and commit more mayhem, while Anna builds a case against him. It’s because Anna failed to do her job that Sidwell was free to set that firebomb in Sonny’s penthouse.

Carlo Rota is General Hospital’s newest bad guy, Sidwell | (Disney/Christine Bartolucci)

Will General Hospital be next on Sidwell’s list?

I know that we don’t have definitive proof that Sidwell is responsible for the fire that ripped through Sonny’s penthouse, but the writers heavily hinted that it was Sidwell. He was positively giddy as he watched the explosion from the terrace of Wyndemere, and he has a history of blowing things up when things don’t go his way. He destroyed both his compound in Africa and the warehouse where he held Sasha captive.

I don’t know what Sidwell is up to, but I’m certain it’s not good. What will it take for Anna to file charges? Does Sidwell have to blow up the hospital?

Another week, another reason to hate Drew

Drew grows more detestable the scruffier his beard gets. I find myself gnashing my teeth every time he aggressively tries to spin things to his advantage and then resorts to threats when people don’t fall for his manipulations. It also annoys me to no end when he insists that he built Aurora Media when the truth is, he started it with Sam. Michael also played a big part in the company’s success.

Curtis stood his ground, which delighted me. He refused to betray Michael by teaming up with Drew. Drew has proven himself to be dishonorable and disloyal to everyone around him, including Curtis. Good for Curtis for not falling for that fork-tongued snake oil salesman’s lies and empty promises.

And kudos to Monica for giving Drew the boot and banning him from the grounds. I will forever be grateful that Tracy got Willow to agree to move back into the gatehouse with the kids. Tracy also made it clear that Willow is not to let Drew near the children or there will be consequences. I just wish she could protect Scout from that horrid man.

I don’t know what the writers have in store for Drew, but I don’t want any of the kids caught up in it.

General Hospital quick takes

I do believe that both Tracy and Martin protest too much. These two are hot for each other, and it’s just a matter of time before they hit the sheets. Lucy’s head will explode if they do, and I can’t wait for those fireworks.

Why is Elizabeth still on administrative leave if she wasn’t anywhere near the hospital during the attempt on Michael’s life?

Kristina scolding Molly because Molly went into assistant district attorney mode upon hearing about Sam’s murder made me want to throw my TV brick at Kristina. The weakest link in the family needs to check herself.

I get Dante’s desire to find Sam’s killer, but why would he think he could be a part of an official investigation? He knows better, and the writing for him is idiotic.

I have to admit that Lulu was starting to get on my nerves because the writers were leaning into her Spencer side a bit too much. Luckily, they have eased up on that and are focusing on Lulu’s relationships. Maxie has been the voice of reason, and it’s been refreshing to see Lulu admit her shortcomings to her bestie. It makes sense that Lulu is still in love with Dante, but the time isn’t right for her to declare her feelings to him. Dante needs time to grieve Sam, and I’m pleased that Lulu recognizes that.

Dear writers, more of Ric and Ava please. I know they are two flawed characters, but both Rick Hearst and Maura West are fantastic actors and their chemistry is electric.

Finally, our site is growing!
